Course requirements

Ontario students need an OSSD (the Ontario Secondary School Diploma) with six Grade 12 U or M courses. Two are required: English (ENG4U) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U). Rotman says it pays special attention to MCV4U because it is a prerequisite.

Rotman may look at all your Grade 11 and 12 U and M courses. It can also prefer students whose marks come from one attempt at each course, and it encourages you to take courses at your day school where you can. Plan your courses with our course planner.

The mid-high 80s average

Rotman recommends an overall average of all your Grade 11 and 12 courses in the mid-high 80s or above, at minimum. It says its students are generally in the top 5% of their class, and that it pays close attention to English and Calculus.

This isn't a cutoff that guarantees a spot. Grades, the supplement and your activities are all considered. U of T doesn't publish a Rotman Commerce acceptance rate. Work out your average with our Top 6 average calculator.

Conditional offers can come all year, based on Grade 11 finals and Grade 12 marks in progress.

The Rotman Commerce Supplemental Application

Every applicant must complete it. There's a $52 fee, paid with your OUAC application. You get your login details by email, and the supplement shows up in the Join U of T portal. It runs on Kira Talent, and you can practise as many times as you like.

The format is one written answer in 20 minutes, one prepared video answer of 90 seconds, and two more 90-second video answers to questions you only see once you start. Each video time includes 30 seconds to prepare. One written and one video question are given to you after you apply.

The early deadline is December 1, 2026. Rotman says supplements sent after that may not be reviewed until April or May. The final deadline is February 1, 2027.

How to apply

On OUAC, choose the University of Toronto, then the Faculty of Arts & Science at St. George, then Rotman Commerce. Rotman recommends applying by November 7, 2026 for early consideration. The final deadline is January 15, 2027.

Rotman says all Ontario high school applicants are treated equally in the assessment, as long as their documents arrive by the regular deadline.

Guaranteed admission to second year

First-year students are guaranteed a place in the program from second year if they meet the marks. You need at least 67% in RSM100 (Introduction to Management) and at least 63% in each of ECO101 and ECO102. You also need a first-year calculus course at its set mark, such as 63% in MAT133, and at least 4.0 credits.

You can repeat each required course once. Rotman says more than 90% of first-year students usually move on to second year.

Co-op and internships

Rotman Commerce's pages describe internships, not a co-op stream. Rotman says 90% of graduates complete at least one internship. It lists more than 560 employer partners and 8 career advisers.

Based on the Class of 2026, Rotman reports a 93% employment rate within nine months of graduating.

Tuition

In first year you pay the same tuition as other Arts & Science students. U of T's 2026-27 report lists $6,220 for Ontario residents and $7,610 for Canadians from other provinces. From second year, Rotman Commerce charges higher program fees until you finish your BCom.

For 2026-27, upper-year Commerce tuition is $16,210 for Ontario residents and $19,870 for other Canadians. Fees for later years are set each spring. See our U of T financial aid guide.

First-year courses and specialists

You take business courses from your first year. The required courses are RSM100 (Introduction to Management), ECO101 (Microeconomics), ECO102 (Macroeconomics) and a first-year calculus course such as MAT133. Rotman also strongly recommends three more: Introduction to Financial Accounting, Financial Markets and Principles of Marketing.

At the start of second year you choose one of three specialists: Management, Accounting, or Finance and Economics. Each has its own required and elective courses. Because you are also in the Faculty of Arts & Science, you can add courses from the humanities to the sciences.

Applying from outside Ontario

Canadian students outside Ontario apply through OUAC. Students at a school outside Canada who have never studied in Canada, and are only applying to U of T in Ontario, use the U of T International Application.

You need a senior English course and a calculus course, such as Calculus 12 or AP Calculus. Rotman may consider all courses from your last two years, including AP, IB and similar courses taken early. Decisions are made in monthly rounds from February to April.

CEGEP students in their second year, or with three or more semesters, may get a provisional offer. Calculus I is required, and Rotman recommends an R-score of at least 30 to be competitive.

Residence guarantee

U of T guarantees housing to new full-time first-year students. To qualify, you must show interest in residence by March 31, 2027 and accept your offer by the deadline. You also have to meet every residence deadline and deposit.

Scholarships and awards

You are automatically considered for some admission awards when you apply. Others need the U of T Awards Profile in the Join U of T portal, or a separate application.

Rotman Commerce lists its own entrance awards. The CIBC Commerce Scholarship gives one or two domestic students who self-identify as Indigenous, Black or as a person with a disability $50,000 each over four years. The Class of 1964 and Class of 1965 scholarships need the Awards Profile.

For international students, the U of T International Scholar Award is worth $100,000 over four years. The Rotman Commerce International Merit Admission Award is worth up to $50,000 over four years.

Transferring from Arts & Science

Rotman says successful transfers are very rare. U of T Arts & Science students can apply in the March to April First Request period of their first year. Requests in the Second Request period are not considered.

You need the same first-year courses and marks as the guaranteed route, plus an average of at least 73% across them. You cannot use the credit/no credit option for these courses. Rotman also reviews your supplemental application and may prefer marks from a single attempt.

For parents

Rotman looks at the whole application. Strong English and Calculus marks matter most, but the timed supplement counts too.

Meeting the early dates in November and December gives your child the best chance of an early review. An adviser can help plan the supplement.
