Queen's Commerce Requirements & Supplement 2027
Queen's Smith Commerce requires both a competitive academic record and a mandatory Kira Talent supplementary application. Ontario applicants need English 4U, Calculus and Vectors 4U, and one additional 4U mathematics course with at least 80% in each. Queen's publishes 90+ only as the previous minimum for consideration, not a guarantee. Queen's Commerce admission requirements at a glance
Smith Commerce admission has two required elements: the academic record and a mandatory supplementary application. For an Ontario applicant, Queen's currently requires an OSSD and six eligible 4U/4M courses, including English 4U, Calculus and Vectors 4U, and one additional 4U mathematics course. Each of those three prerequisites must be at least 80%.
Queen's publishes 90+ as the previous minimum average for Commerce admission consideration. That is neither a guaranteed cutoff nor a replacement for the prerequisite floors. The university says the level can change with the applicant pool and available spaces, and preference goes to the strongest combination of grades and supplementary information.

Queen's Commerce supplementary application format
Queen's currently delivers the supplement through Kira Talent. Applicants receive one random written question and one random video question; the university does not release the live prompts ahead of time. The useful preparation target is the published format and rubric, not old prompt lists.

How the current rubric changes preparation
Queen's publishes separate five-level rubrics for the written and video responses. Strong work is specific, answers the assigned question, makes the applicant's decisions visible, and ends with meaningful reflection. A prestigious title without clear action, impact, or learning does not meet those criteria by itself.
The written rubric currently frames its evidence around a challenge, initiative, adaptability or persistence, problem-solving, and reflection. The video rubric adds attention to other perspectives, teamwork, ownership, impact, maturity, and composure. These are assessment criteria—not leaked questions.

Queen's opens applications October 1, 2026. Commerce applications are due February 1, 2027, the mandatory supplement is due February 15, 2027, and all required documents are due March 31, 2027. Late Commerce supplements are not accepted.

The route changes by applicant location and whether another Ontario university is on the application. Every route still leads to a Queen's account, an applicant-specific checklist, and the mandatory Commerce supplement.

Queen's Commerce application sequence
- Confirm the prerequisites for your school system and build a six-course grade tracker.
- Apply through the correct route and select Smith Commerce; Ontario applicants use OUAC code QC.
- Watch for the Queen's acknowledgement, activate the NetID, and open the SOLUS Student Centre.
- Add @queensu.ca and @kiratalent.com to safe senders and monitor the email used on the application.
- If the Kira invitation has not arrived within eight business days after the acknowledgement email, contact Queen's supplementary-application support.
- Review the live Kira instructions, complete the mandatory practice check-in, and prepare a reliable device and environment.
- Submit both the written and video components before the deadline shown in SOLUS; Queen's does not accept late Commerce supplements.
- Save the confirmation email and allow up to eight business days for the SOLUS To-Do List to update.
Earlier submission does not promise an earlier offer
Queen's says the supplement is important, review volume is high, and submitting it earlier does not mean an earlier offer. The university aims to communicate applicant decisions by mid-May, subject to the cycle and completion of the file.

Verify the academic calculation
Use Queen's current admission page for your school system to confirm required courses, minimum prerequisite grades, and how the admission average is calculated. Do not rely on an old brochure or unofficial cutoff as a prediction.
Track interim grades, transcript delivery, portal tasks, and any course-setting questions separately from the supplementary work.
Build evidence before seeing it as an essay
List experiences across paid work, entrepreneurship, clubs, athletics, arts, community, family responsibility, advocacy, and independent projects. Titles matter less than what you noticed, decided, changed, and learned.
For every strong example, record the context, constraint, your exact action, a result or consequence, and a reflection. This prevents generic claims and makes it easier to adapt truthfully to the live question.
Answer the live task directly
Supplementary formats can change. Read every instruction in the applicant portal and answer the current question within its stated format and limit. Do not rehearse an old prompt so heavily that you ignore the actual task.
A direct opening, a small number of relevant details, visible reasoning, and a concise reflection are usually clearer than a broad catalogue of achievements.
Revise without erasing the applicant
Ask reviewers where they were confused, unconvinced, or missing context. The applicant should decide how to solve those problems in their own words. Avoid editing that turns a teenager's response into institutional marketing copy.
Check consistency with dates, roles, and claims elsewhere in the application. Preserve drafts and comply with current Queen's rules on authorship and assistance.

Build a balanced list using curriculum, class size, teaching model, work experience, specializations, exchange, recruiting, campus fit, total cost, and admissions process. The strongest choice is the one you can explain with program evidence, not a ranking alone.
