Choose Social Sciences for your first-year direction
Social Sciences is a broad St. George admission category. The central 2027-28 bulletin gives it code TAX. It includes subjects concerned with people, institutions and society. You don't need to decide every part of your degree before applying. But you should identify a few programs you want to explore, because their first-year courses can affect which later choices stay open to you.
The official program list includes Sociology, Political Science, Anthropology and Economics. These aren't identical study paths. Sociology asks how groups and institutions work. Economics uses mathematical models to study choices and markets. Read the course and program descriptions for your own interests. A preference for discussing current events doesn't by itself show whether you would enjoy a degree with substantial maths and data work.
Admission to TAX is not direct admission to every major. Arts & Science has open and limited-enrolment programs. You request a program after taking university courses, subject to its rules. Use the Toronto school hub for wider campus context. This page concerns Social Sciences at St. George; requirements from Mississauga or Scarborough belong to their own admission categories.

Build the Ontario course list around English
The Ontario route needs your school diploma and six Grade 12 U/M courses. U means university preparation; M means university/college preparation. English must be one of the six. The university accepts ENG4U or EAE4U as the Ontario English equivalent. The co-op component of a Grade 12 course isn't counted for admission. Ask your counsellor to check the actual course level on your record.
The checked Social Sciences guides don't state a standalone numeric mark floor for English. The faculty gives a recommended English range instead. Don't borrow UTM's 70% English floor and call it a St. George rule. These campuses publish different instructions. You should retain the required course, the recommended range and its source, rather than create a minimum that wasn't printed for this category.
Maths deserves a separate decision. English is the broad category prerequisite, but Economics and some other program paths require calculus preparation. The bulletin marks calculus beside Economics and Environmental Economics. The Economics calendar says all its programs require at least one university mathematics course. If those paths interest you, plan Grade 12 calculus now rather than relying on the broader category's shorter requirement list.

Keep both 2027 grade guides visible
The faculty's 2027 Guide gives Social Sciences a Mid 80s Recommended Admission Range. It gives the same recommended range for English. Its note says the figure reflects last year's Ontario curriculum average. The central 2027-28 domestic bulletin instead gives mid to high 80s under Approximate Grade Requirement. That bulletin says its figures are based on the previous year's admission average.
Both sources are official, and their ranges differ. Neither prints a guaranteed Fall 2027 cutoff. Neither names the underlying cohort year beside this row. We keep their publication years and their past-average descriptions attached. If this difference affects your shortlist, ask Arts & Science which current guidance it wants you to use. It isn't sound to choose one number silently or turn either range into an offer promise.
You can estimate your own Ontario planning average with the Top 6 calculator. Include the required English course and check every course's level. Use the result to identify schoolwork that needs attention and compare realistic alternatives. U of T still reads required-course results and the wider record. A calculated average doesn't measure your chance of admission or remove the need to finish final offer conditions.

Apply through the correct route without extra assessments
The normal first-time route is the OUAC Undergraduate application. OUAC is the Ontario Universities' Application Centre. U of T's International Application has narrower eligibility: residence outside Canada, no current or previous Canadian study, and no application to another Ontario university. Read the full criteria before choosing it. Your citizenship alone doesn't decide which application you should use.
The checked category list does not require a Social Sciences supplement, interview, portfolio or Casper test. This differs from the faculty's Computer Science and Rotman categories. You still have to provide the documents in your Join U of T checklist. A missing transcript can hold up review even when your program has no essay. Use the university's document instructions instead of uploading extra material you hope will improve the file.
Later program admission can need a separate request and specific university marks. Economics is an example of a limited-enrolment path with set course requirements. The high school application deadline is not the deadline to request that later major. Read the current calendar as a planning reference. Its rules can change before you reach program selection after your first year.

Use the application and document dates separately
The central 2027 table lists January 15, 2027 for St. George Arts & Science applications. Documents for Social Sciences are due February 1, 2027. November 7, 2026 is the recommended early application checkpoint, with available material encouraged by December 1. Make a reminder for the form and another for documents. One completed task doesn't mean the university has received the whole file.
An Ontario school normally sends results to the university. Other academic histories can need personal uploads or official results from the issuer. Review your portal before sending documents. If you took some high school courses outside Ontario, don't assume the Ontario transmission covers all of them. Your checklist reflects the record you reported, so check names and school histories for errors as well.
U of T can use Grade 11 results when the required Grade 12 mark isn't available. Conditional review depends on enrolment in the required senior courses. Its Canadian requirements say courses and graduation requirements must be completed by the end of June in the year of application. Keep other offer deadlines visible through the Ontario deadline guide, and follow the actual conditions in any offer you receive.

Match your province or international qualification
Canadian admission uses province-specific diploma and course rules. British Columbia applicants generally present six Grade 12 academic subjects including accepted senior English. Alberta uses five Grade 12 academic subjects at the 30/31 level including English. The required subject equivalents are listed on the university's Canadian page. Add any preparation needed for your intended later program, such as calculus for Economics, alongside the general diploma rules.
International assessment starts with the accepted school qualification. The International Baccalaureate route requires the Diploma and English at Standard or Higher Level. The university assesses predicted or final results before bonus points. British-patterned applicants normally present five different GCSE/IGCSE/Ordinary subjects and three A Levels. Four AS subjects can be considered for most programs. Read the excluded-subject list and the rules for the curriculum your school actually follows.
For CAPE, U of T lists six units and English at CSEC or CAPE level. Other national curricula have country-specific instructions. Don't invent an Ontario percentage conversion for those results. Senior English is required, while English language proficiency evidence is a separate question. An exemption from a language test must meet the university's published conditions; it isn't something to assume from a passport or one English-taught class.

Compare the methods and work options
Read how each possible major uses evidence. The Sociology calendar includes work on social questions and research methods. Economics places greater emphasis on mathematical reasoning and course prerequisites. Compare sample subjects before treating all Social Sciences programs as interchangeable. A degree combination can bring two interests together, but you still have to satisfy the entry and completion rules for each program you choose.
Arts & Science uses the Arts & Science Internship Program, called ASIP, for eligible programs. It isn't a universal direct-entry co-op guaranteed by a TAX offer. The current Economics calendar describes ASIP entry stages and selection. Check the program you plan to request and its own rules. An internship can also change degree timing and costs, so compare the complete arrangement with the alternatives at other schools.
The standalone ASIP page blocked this automated read. We rely on the successfully fetched calendar and university bulletins for the details stated here. No missing duration, fee or placement rate has been supplied. Ask the faculty about the current stream before building a budget around it. Access to an internship program and an employer's offer are separate decisions.

Budget and make the next course decision
General Arts & Science tuition is $6,220 for Ontario residents and $7,610 for other Canadian residents in the report's approved 2026-27 Schedule 2. International tuition is $66,110 in that approved cycle. For new international entrants in 2027, the report's 2027-28 INFO column gives $68,750. It calls this a planned fee for information only, not a final approved charge.
Use the U of T financial aid guide for funding options and the residence information for housing. Tuition alone isn't your whole budget. Scholarship and internship income remain uncertain until awarded or earned. Approved Fall 2027 domestic rates still need a new check. Keep the residency group and academic year beside any cost you use.
Your next step is to confirm English and your six eligible courses. Then list a few later majors and check their maths preparation. Ask the faculty about the two grade publications if they change your decision. Recheck unresolved range and fee notices on November 1, 2026. That is our editorial reminder, not a university closing date. Finish your application tasks before the official January and February checkpoints.
