Electrical is a specific admission choice
U of T lists Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering as distinct undergraduate programs. They share the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, often called ECE. A department name doesn't merge the two admission choices. Interested in circuits or energy? Start with the Electrical course map. If you prefer computing, read Computer's map too. Compare both before ranking them.
The Electrical page describes a foundation in engineering design, mathematics, electronics and programming. Later choices include circuits, energy systems and photonics. It also names communications, signal processing and control as focus areas. These subjects can involve considerable computing, but their presence doesn't turn Electrical into a Computer Science degree. Your choice should reflect the physics and maths you'll study as well as the software you'll use.
This page owns the Electrical entry question. The faculty-wide Engineering guide retains the broader process. You can also compare Engineering Science, whose Electrical & Computer Engineering major comes after a separate foundation. Don't confuse that later EngSci major with direct first-year Electrical entry. Similar words can describe different curricula and different points at which you choose a program.

Keep physics and chemistry in your course plan
The Ontario requirements name English ENG4U, Advanced Functions MHF4U, Calculus and Vectors MCV4U, Chemistry SCH4U and Physics SPH4U. Every required course must reach 70% for consideration. You'll need a sixth Grade 12 U/M course and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma too. U courses prepare you for university; M courses combine university and college preparation. The sixth course can be U or M, but the named required courses have their stated codes.
Physics is central to this degree, but liking physics doesn't remove chemistry from admission. The faculty requires chemistry for Engineering applicants in other curricula as well. Confirm that your school record includes every required subject, not just the ones you expect to use most often. If chemistry isn't offered where you study, ask Engineering how to satisfy its requirement before choosing another course.
Engineering's Ontario average uses five required course marks. The committee also reads your wider academic history. A top-six result from another program's rules is not interchangeable. Record the five marks separately, keeping individual weaknesses visible. Our average calculator remains useful when you compare other university routes. It doesn't change the faculty's calculation or predict whether your Electrical application will receive an offer.

Separate basic eligibility from a competitive record
The current Engineering FAQ places Electrical in Low to Mid 90's. It describes this as the range where Canadian high school admission consideration began in recent years. The page doesn't give the range a single entry-year label. As checked October 13, 2026, it is recent-years guidance, not a lowest 2027 accepted average. It also says being within the published range doesn't guarantee admission.
A 70% mark in each required course satisfies the printed course floor. It doesn't establish that your overall record is competitive. Your course marks still matter. So do your school history and the required supplement. When a friend cites an entering average, ask which program, applicant group and year it describes. A class average, a consideration range and an individual offer condition are different measures.
Use the range to make a practical comparison. If your five-course record is close to it, continue building an honest complete file and keep alternatives. If it is lower, identify other programs whose requirements fit your subjects and interests. Check again on November 1, 2026 for a more dated update. Don't convert this broad guidance into a number for your chance of entry or use it to promise your family a result.

Plan the timed profile and activity record
Your application has a shared Engineering supplement, not an Electrical-only essay package. U of T sends access through the Engineering Applicant Portal after receiving the OUAC form. You'll provide the school timeline, academic information, activities and ranked Engineering preferences. At least two and up to four programs must be ranked. The choice order deserves thought because these are degrees you may actually be offered.
The timed Personal Profile currently has three video responses. Use the school's tutorial and practice system to test your microphone and understand the task. The assessment must be entirely your own work. U of T says nobody else should be in the room, even virtually. You can't use other apps or devices. Arrange any required accommodation with the faculty well before the deadline.
The activity section is separate from that timed assessment. It can include paid employment, arts, sport or community work; an electronics club isn't a compulsory entry ticket. U of T asks for activity references so it can verify what you report, but not reference letters. Select a real supervisor rather than a family member. The checked Electrical admission instructions don't require Casper, an art portfolio or another department-specific interview.

Track the application, documents and decision separately
January 15, 2027 is the confirmed regular Engineering application deadline in the university's central table. The profile and required Engineering documents are due at the same checkpoint. For the early path, aim to apply by November 7, 2026 and submit the profile plus available documents by December 1. Early completion creates a chance for earlier review. It doesn't mean every early application gets a February offer.
The faculty warns that its receipt of an OUAC application may take up to a week. Leave time for that transfer and portal access. Check every outstanding document item after you submit. If all your high school study was in Ontario, your school marks normally arrive via OUAC. If part was elsewhere, provide the full requested history. Paying the application fee doesn't prove every required transcript has been received.
Ontario review runs through February, March and May rounds. The international and out-of-province routes describe different timing, including an early complete-file response by April 30. A response may be an offer or another decision. It isn't a guarantee of admission. Follow the deadline on each actual offer while you compare options. The Ontario deadline guide can help you keep other schools' commitments visible.

Use the Engineering equivalents for your school system
The provincial page lists the required subjects by curriculum. For British Columbia, the faculty asks for pre-calculus, calculus, chemistry, physics and senior English. Alberta applicants use Mathematics 30-1 and 31 with Chemistry 30, Physics 30 and English Language Arts 30-1. Consult the entry for your own province because transcript delivery and acceptable calculus combinations vary. Arts has different rules. Use the Engineering list for this file.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) floor is 30 predicted points, excluding bonus points. Each required subject needs at least 4. For the International Baccalaureate, accepted maths options include Analysis and Approaches HL or SL and Applications and Interpretations HL. Chemistry, physics and English are also listed. The faculty's subject and diploma rules matter alongside the total score. Applications and Interpretations SL isn't one of the listed Engineering options. If you combine curricula, disclose the complete school history and ask how the required course evidence will be assessed.
British-patterned applicants need three A Levels, including mathematics and physics. AS or A Level chemistry is strongly recommended; without it the faculty requires Ordinary Level chemistry. It recommends B or higher and excludes a C or lower in a required course. International files are reviewed by curriculum, not simply by passport. Check whether you need proof of English skill. Read your document checklist. A senior English course doesn't by itself grant a test exemption.

Compare circuits, energy and work experience
The published first-year Electrical list includes mechanics, chemistry and materials, linear algebra and calculus. It also includes Engineering Strategies & Practice, electrical fundamentals, computer fundamentals, and an introduction to Electrical & Computer Engineering. This mix helps explain why both maths and communication matter. You won't spend every term building a favourite gadget. You also need to analyse systems and explain decisions clearly to other people.
In later years, Electrical's focus areas include analog and digital electronics, sustainable energy systems, and photonics, quantum and semiconductor devices. Those are directions for comparing course options, not jobs assigned on graduation. Read actual required and elective subjects before choosing based on a career title. If you're interested mainly in software systems, compare Computer Engineering and the Computer Science pathway as well.
PEY Co-op is optional and offers a route to extended work experience, with a published maximum of 20 months. The faculty page shows sample employers and work locations. Such examples describe previous opportunities, not guaranteed openings for your intake. Check the current fees and eligibility, and plan for a work term that may be in another city. An employer's hiring decision remains separate from your university admission.

Budget from the current dated report
For international study, the 2026-27 approved tuition is $72,860. A $75,770 figure is printed for 2027-28 as INFO. U of T calls it a planned fee for information only. It is a planning figure, not a final charge.
The 2026-27 institutional report's Schedule 2 lists Engineering tuition at $14,460 for Ontario residents and $17,730 for other Canadian residents. It says Schedule 2 will be implemented in Fall 2026 and Winter 2027. The faculty finance page still shows a table explicitly labelled 2025-2026. Keep those cycles visible. Neither source confirms a Fall 2027 tuition bill, and incidental, housing and co-op charges require their own checks.
Faculty awards consider academics and the supplement. Some wider awards need a separate application. Start with the U of T aid page for funding. Check residence options before setting a total budget. Recheck 2027 prices and the yearless competitive range on November 1, 2026. Direct fetches of some faculty pages were blocked. Their official bodies were read through web fetch and the source records retain that limitation.
