Apply to Humanities before choosing a major

Humanities is one of the Faculty of Arts & Science admission categories at St. George. Its OUAC code is TAH. You apply to that broad category from high school, then choose a program of study later. This lets you explore subjects such as history, philosophy, literature or languages before settling on a degree combination. It isn't a place in every possible specialist program within the faculty.

The 2027 Guide explains that Arts & Science degrees include 20 credits and a permitted program combination. You can build a specialist, two majors, or a major with two minors. The exact course and enrolment rules depend on the programs you choose. Check those rules as you compare schools. Another university may ask you to choose a major right away.

Use the University of Toronto hub for the three-campus context. This page owns St. George Humanities entry. Mississauga and Scarborough have their own admission categories and course arrangements. A grade range or program rule from another campus shouldn't be copied into this application just because all three share the University of Toronto name.

Take the right English course and six eligible subjects

Ontario applicants need the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and six courses at the Grade 12 U/M level. Humanities requires English. The university lists ENG4U or EAE4U as the Ontario equivalent. U means university preparation and M means university/college preparation. The co-op component of a Grade 12 course isn't used for admission. Check the transcript carefully if an experiential course forms part of your apparent six.

The checked 2027 Guide doesn't publish a separate numeric Humanities course minimum. It gives recommended English and overall grade guidance instead. Don't turn the mid-80s recommendation into a formal minimum for every course. That distinction matters when you plan school subjects or explain eligibility to a parent. Report the actual required course and the school's range label without adding an unsupported mark requirement.

Calculus isn't a Humanities category required course. A later program can still need prior courses. Check the courses you want to take too. For example, the guide flags extra subject advice beside particular programs rather than treating every Humanities student the same. Read those notes before dropping maths or science solely because they aren't part of broad entry. A timetable should preserve the options you actually hope to use.

Read the new mid-80s figure with its year and label

The Arts & Science 2027 Guide lists Mid 80s for both the Humanities overall Recommended Admission Range and its recommended English range. It says the admission range reflects last year's Ontario curriculum average and is only general guidance. It doesn't print a numeric final cutoff or name the underlying cohort year. We retain its last-year description rather than inventing a Fall 2027 threshold from the guide's cover date.

The guide also says the faculty considers marks in each required course along with the overall average. Meeting published guidance doesn't guarantee admission. This makes your English record worth attention even when other marks are stronger. An earlier edition used different recommended ranges, so use the 2027 Guide when planning this application. Keep the publication year and the fact that its figures describe past Ontario results visible.

The central 2027-28 domestic bulletin lists low to mid 80s for Humanities. Its label is Approximate Grade Requirement. It says this reflects the previous year's admission average. That differs from the faculty's 2027 Guide, which recommends mid 80s. Both are official. We show both figures and their labels. Neither supplies a guaranteed Fall 2027 cutoff, so ask Arts & Science about the difference if it affects your plan.

Calculate a planning average with the Top 6 calculator, but don't treat it as a prediction. Confirm that your courses are eligible and that required English is included. If your record falls below the recommendation, compare alternatives you would accept and continue improving the relevant subjects. Recheck on November 1, 2026 if the faculty publishes updated category guidance or more precise cycle information.

Use the right application and avoid an unnecessary supplement

Most first-time applicants use the OUAC Undergraduate application. U of T also has an International Application with set rules. You must live outside Canada and have no past or current Canadian study. You also can't be applying to another Ontario university. Confirm the full eligibility before using that route. An international passport alone doesn't decide which form you should submit. Previous U of T study can require an internal application instead.

St. George Humanities has no listed category supplementary application. The faculty's two named supplemented categories are Computer Science and Rotman Commerce. Don't assume a portfolio, interview or Casper test is needed for Humanities because another university asks for one. After applying, the Join U of T portal gives you a personal document checklist. Complete that checklist even when no category supplement is required.

A later limited-enrolment program can have its own application or selection process. That is separate from the high school category application. Check the program calendar when you know what you want to study, and distinguish first-year course entry from second-year program entry. A Humanities offer doesn't promise entry to every listed specialist or major. Each later program has its own rules.

Meet the 2027 application and document deadlines

The central university schedule confirms January 15, 2027 for Arts & Science applications. Documents for the St. George categories other than Rotman are due February 1, 2027. The recommended early application date is November 7, 2026, with available documents encouraged by December 1. These are separate actions. Applying early doesn't mean you can ignore a later transcript request that appears in your portal.

Ontario school results are normally sent to U of T automatically. Other school histories can require uploads or results sent directly by the issuing authority. Review the required-documents page and your portal before sending anything. A general list won't tell you which documents apply to a mixed school record. Keep confirmation of what you submitted and check whether the item has been marked received.

The university can make conditional offers using available Grade 11 and 12 marks if you're enrolled in the required senior courses. It requires courses and graduation requirements to be finished by the end of June in the year of application. Read your eventual offer conditions carefully. The Ontario deadlines guide can help you compare response commitments at other universities while U of T assesses the file.

Check how another province or international school is assessed

The university publishes Canadian diploma and subject rules by province. Alberta uses five Grade 12 academic subjects at the 30/31 level including English. British Columbia uses six Grade 12 academic subjects including accepted senior English. These are not identical lists. Use your province's instructions and keep any program-specific required courses alongside them. Don't force a five-subject provincial record into an Ontario six-course rule without checking how U of T assesses it.

International applicants need the accepted school qualification and senior English. The IB route requires the complete Diploma including English at Standard or Higher Level. Admission consideration uses predicted or final results excluding bonus points. The British-patterned route normally needs five different GCSE/IGCSE/Ordinary subjects. You also need three different A Levels. Four AS subjects can be considered for most programs. The international page names subjects that aren't included in assessment.

For CAPE, the university lists six units and English at CSEC or CAPE level. For other national curricula, use the country-specific requirements linked from the international page. Your citizenship doesn't turn one credential into another. The English language rule is a further check. Your senior English course and an approved language test serve different purposes. Confirm any exemption through the university's rules instead of assuming an English-taught class is enough.

Plan first-year exploration with later enrolment in mind

The 2027 Guide places English, philosophy and history within Humanities. It shows the specialist, major and minor choices for each program. It also marks particular programs for ASIP, the Arts & Science Internship Program. Read the row for a program you're considering rather than assuming the whole category has the same study or work options. A broad list is a starting point for course planning.

After you arrive, programs can be open or have limited enrolment. The faculty's program-selection instructions explain how to request them and how additional steps work. Those dates concern enrolled university students, not your current high school application. Keep some alternate courses in your first-year plan in case a desired program requires marks or courses you haven't yet completed. Discuss choices with your academic office.

ASIP is the faculty internship route, rather than a universal direct-entry co-op attached to Humanities. You must meet the current rules for your program to take part. Don't budget from a future internship wage before you have a position. If work experience is important to your decision, compare eligible programs and application stages with other schools' co-op models. The degree's flexibility is useful only when you understand the rules that govern each option.

Budget separately and decide what to do next

International Arts & Science tuition is $66,110 in the approved 2026-27 column. The 2027-28 INFO column gives $68,750 for new entrants. U of T calls this a planned fee for information only. It needs a final approved-cycle check.

For a cost reference, the 2026-27 tuition report's Schedule 2 lists general Arts & Science tuition of $6,220 for Ontario residents and $7,610 for other Canadian residents. It says Schedule 2 will be implemented in Fall 2026 and Winter 2027. These are tuition amounts, not a full living-cost budget. Fall 2027 tuition wasn't confirmed in the checked report. Some later regulated programs have different fees, so retain the program name.

Use the existing U of T financial aid guide for scholarships and funding, and the residence guide for housing. The first action now is an English and course-eligibility check. Then compare a few Humanities program rows to decide which first-year subjects you would want. Put January 15 and February 1 on separate reminders and leave time to check your portal.

Direct requests to some Arts & Science sources were blocked during this review. The university's 2027 PDF and its program-selection instructions were successfully read through web fetch. The source records say how. The blocked Humanities category page wasn't used to invent a numeric minimum. Recheck missing 2027 cost notices and any newly dated admission guidance on November 1, 2026. Your own offer and the current calendar govern later decisions.
