What you need from an Ontario high school
McGill Engineering asks Ontario students for four prerequisites: 4U English or French, Calculus and Vectors, Chemistry and Physics. Math and science prerequisites must be from the last five years.
McGill works out its own Top 6 average. You need at least six 4U, DU or 4M courses. At least four of the six, and every prerequisite, must be 4U or DU, and only two 4M courses can count. Your prerequisites are always part of the six.
You don't send your OUAC number unless you get an offer. Instead, you self-report your Grade 11 and 12 marks in the McGill Applicant Portal and upload an unofficial transcript.

How competitive each program is
Bioengineering, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering list the highest typical minimums: the mid to high 90s for your Top 6 and the mid 90s in math and science. Chemical, Civil, Computer, Mining and Software sit in the low to mid 90s. Materials Engineering lists the high 80s to low 90s.
These are typical minimums, not targets. McGill says entry grades change from year to year and that meeting a listed range doesn't guarantee admission. When a program fills before the document deadline, McGill says incomplete files may be cancelled, so finish early.
Compare these ranges with other schools on our engineering admission requirements page.

Applying from Quebec, the IB or the U.S.
CEGEP students need math, chemistry and physics prerequisites. McGill says Bioengineering, Chemical and Mechanical applicants should have all or nearly all of them done. For Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mining, Materials and Software, it may admit you with at least four, including Math NYA and NYB. The September 2026 R-score minimums run from 29.1 for Mining to 34.4 for Mechanical. The CEGEP application deadline is March 1.
IB Diploma students need math, chemistry and physics, with at least one at Higher Level, and McGill doesn't accept SL Math Applications and Interpretations. Typical totals run from 32 to 35 points for Mining up to 38 to 42 for Mechanical.
U.S. high school students need pre-calculus, chemistry and physics. The SAT and ACT are optional for Fall 2027, and McGill says opting out may affect timing but won't otherwise count against you. The IB and U.S. pages both list a January 15 application date.

Deadlines, fee and decisions
For Ontario high school students, McGill lists February 1 for the application, February 7 for the Major Entrance Scholarship and May 4 for supporting documents. You self-report grades twice. The first window, February 1 to March 1, is optional, and McGill makes no refusals during it. The second, April 1 to May 15, is required.
The application fee is $140.16 and is non-refundable. A second application for the same term costs nothing extra.
For September 2026 entry, McGill sent Ontario high school decisions between mid-February and the end of May. It hasn't posted the Fall 2027 window yet. McGill says it sends offers to the most competitive applicants first, and that highly competitive programs may decide later.

How many people apply
McGill's Fall 2025 admissions profile shows 8,188 applicants to Engineering and 1,028 registered students. Registered students are people who enrolled, not everyone who got an offer.
McGill doesn't publish Engineering offers, so an acceptance rate can't be calculated from these numbers. See our McGill acceptance rate page for the university-wide figures.

Internships and co-op
McGill's Engineering Internship Program helps students in Bioengineering, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical Engineering find a paid internship that shows on their transcript.
Mining, Materials and Software Engineering have co-op programs with mandatory work terms. If paid work during your degree matters to you, compare the program you pick, not just McGill as a whole.
Global and Bioresource Engineering
Global Engineering has no published range. McGill says its review is handled jointly by both partner universities and includes a personal statement.
Bioresource Engineering is a B.Eng. on the Macdonald campus, in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Its Ontario prerequisites differ: 4U English or French, Calculus and Vectors, and two of Biology, Chemistry or Physics. McGill lists the mid to high 70s for it.

For parents
Last cycle, McGill's Ontario decisions ran to the end of May. Keep other options open until you've compared every offer.
Mark the self-reporting windows on your calendar. If there's no decision after the first window, McGill marks the file 'Needs more information' and you report again from April 1 to May 15. Our McGill admission requirements page covers every faculty.
