Engineering admission requirements and averages in Canada: 13 universities for Fall 2027
Almost every Canadian engineering program asks for Grade 12 English, Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, Chemistry and Physics. Published ranges go from the 75 to 80% band for some Carleton majors to the mid to high 90s for McGill's Bioengineering, Electrical and Mechanical programs. These are past results, not cut-offs. Many schools add a step: Waterloo's AIF (Admission Information Form) and interview, U of T's supplemental application, McMaster's supplementary, Western's Casper test and UBC's personal profile. Most Ontario deadlines are January 15, 2027, with forms due soon after.

How to read engineering ranges
Every school words its number differently. Waterloo calls its figure a minimum competitive average and says there is no absolute cut-off. U of T says consideration began in a range in recent years. McMaster gives an anticipated minimum of 87%. uOttawa and Carleton list minimums. Western shows the typical range of last year's class. Alberta shows a three-year trend.
A minimum gets your file read. A typical range shows where admitted students landed. Plan to sit near the top of a range for the program you want most.
Ranges also differ inside one school. At Waterloo, Electrical and Software Engineering list the low to mid-90s, while several programs list the mid- to high 80s. At Carleton, Aerospace and Mechanical sit at 88 to 90% and Software at 75 to 80%.

The five Grade 12 courses
Most programs here want ENG4U, MHF4U, MCV4U, SCH4U and SPH4U. Some set a floor on each one: Waterloo, Western, TMU and York want at least 70% in each, and Carleton wants none below 60%.
There are a few exceptions. UBC's Ontario list doesn't include MCV4U, and UBC says strong students missing Chemistry or Physics are reviewed case by case. McMaster's list names ENG4U, MCV4U, SCH4U and SPH4U, without MHF4U. Calgary may consider you without MCV4U at a higher average and put you in a different calculus stream.
U of T calculates your engineering average from the five prerequisites. Use our course planner to check your timetable before Grade 12 starts.

Supplements, interviews and Casper
Waterloo needs the AIF and an online video interview for every engineering program except Architecture. Waterloo says the forms help because many applicants have similar averages. Both are due February 1, 2027.
U of T's Engineering Supplemental Application includes a Personal Profile that takes about 30 minutes. Finish it and your documents by December 1 to be reviewed earlier, or by January 15 at the latest. McMaster's supplementary application runs through Kira Talent, is done once for all its engineering programs and is due January 28, 2027.
Western Engineering needs the Casper test, and Western says it can't make an offer without your result. UBC needs a personal profile. McGill asks for a personal statement only for Global Engineering. See our supplementary applications guide and Casper test guide.

Choose a discipline now or after first year
Waterloo, McGill and uOttawa publish a separate range for each named program, so you choose your discipline when you apply. UBC and Calgary start you in a common first year.
UBC places first-year students into a discipline using their Winter Session average and a personal statement, and says no single average guarantees a program. Calgary says your choice of major is guaranteed once you pass all 10 technical courses in its common first year.
McMaster is changing for Fall 2027. You'll rank program tracks on OUAC, or pick a Discovery Track and choose at the end of first year based on your first-year grades.
