OUAC Scholarships and Ontario University Awards for 2027

OUAC does not function as a scholarship fund. It is Ontario's centralized university application service. An OUAC application can make you eligible for a university's automatic entrance awards. But many scholarships, bursaries and award profiles need their own step. You take that step through the university, your school, OSAP or an outside provider.

You can search Ontario university scholarship listings at OUInfo's scholarship search. This is the official place to look. As reviewed August 2, 2026, it shows 694 listings. It sends applicants to the universities for specific scholarship details. Treat the search as a discovery index, not one universal application.

Reviewed August 13, 2026: Scholarship values, eligibility, deadlines and renewal rules can change. Several university pages now publish selected Fall 2027 dates, while other profiles still display 2026 deadlines. This guide labels current examples and does not carry an old date into a new admission cycle.

Ontario.ca / OSAPApply separately for Ontario and federal grants and student loans through the Ontario Student Assistance Program.Use the current OSAP application and estimator. A university application does not create an OSAP application. An OUAC application does not create one either.

OUAC describes itself as a not-for-profit service. It collects applications in one place. Its financial-assistance FAQ points applicants to university scholarships, OSAP, employers, guidance counsellors and OUInfo. The practical point is simple. OUAC can start the admission process that an award depends on, but it is not the one application for every scholarship.

Ontario's current OSAP guidance says one application automatically considers an eligible applicant for grants and a student loan. It also explains that changes beginning with programs that start on or after August 1, 2026 shift more of the provincial portion toward loans. That makes an old claim about the expected grant share unsafe. Use the live estimator and actual assessment.

Varsity recruits should also use the Canadian university athletic scholarships and recruiting guide. It helps you tell Athletic Financial Awards apart from admission. It also helps you tell them apart from team selection, coach interest and full cost of attendance.

How to use OUInfo without missing the real application

  1. Open the OUInfo scholarship search.
  2. Filter by university, deadline, value, renewable status and other relevant fields.
  3. Record the exact scholarship name and official university.
  4. Open the university's current award page rather than relying only on the listing summary.
  5. Confirm whether consideration is automatic, application-based, nominated or tied to a separate profile.
  6. Check citizenship, residency, fee status, program, campus, year of entry and course-load rules.
  7. Record whether the listed amount is per year or the total across multiple years.
  8. Save the submission confirmation and the renewal conditions.

OUInfo says universities award scholarships for academic merit, financial need, extracurricular activities and other distinctions. It also distinguishes renewable from non-renewable awards and tells applicants to contact universities directly. A search result is therefore a lead to verify, not proof of eligibility or payment.

Turn the research into a shortlist: Open the free University & Scholarship Finder to match awards to your background and goals, then verify eligibility, value and deadlines on the official provider page.

Automatic versus application-based scholarships

Automatic entrance awards

An automatic award normally uses information already available through the admission process, such as the program, applicant category and grades. “Automatic” does not mean guaranteed. The university can use a particular grade snapshot, top-six calculation, program-specific prerequisites, final grades, enrolment status and offer-acceptance conditions.

Application-based awards

These can require one or more of the following:

  • an applicant-portal award profile;
  • a financial-need declaration and supporting household information;
  • leadership, community, identity or lived-experience responses;
  • a school or community nomination;
  • one or more references;
  • a portfolio, audition or evidence of achievement;
  • a separate external-provider form;
  • an earlier admission application so the university can issue a student number before the award deadline.

Do not wait for an admission decision to look for application-based awards. York explicitly says applicants can submit specified award applications after receiving a student number. They do not need to receive or accept an offer first.

Current university examples

These examples show why one “OUAC scholarship average” does not exist. They are current official examples reviewed August 2, 2026, not a national ranking or a guarantee.

University of TorontoApplicants are automatically considered for many admission awards when they apply. U of T says most admission awards do not require a separate application.Awards that use financial need, leadership, community involvement or other non-academic criteria need the Awards Profile. The 2027 deadline for it is not yet published.
University of WaterlooThe current main-campus schedule lists $1,000 at 85–89.9%, $2,000 at 90–94.9%, and a $2,000 entrance award plus possible $1,500 research and/or international-experience awards at 95% or higher.Faculty, identity-based, international and other awards use different rules. Some need a portal application or a nomination. Each one posts its own dates.
York UniversityYork's current Canadian high-school schedule starts at an 80% final admission average. It lists renewable automatic entrance awards. These cover four average bands.You access application-required awards through MyFile after you receive a York student number. Some deadlines are earlier than the general awards close.
Queen's UniversityDomestic and international applicants are considered for automatic grade-based admission scholarships through the admission application.The Financial Aid and Awards Profile supports consideration for some awards. These awards are need-based and identity-based. Conditions and renewal rules stay specific to each award.

For more detailed planning for one school, use the current guides. They cover University of Toronto scholarships and financial aid and Waterloo scholarships and financial aid. They also cover McMaster scholarships and financial aid and Western scholarships and financial aid. They also cover TMU scholarships and financial aid and Carleton scholarships and financial aid.

Fall 2027 scholarship timeline

Before applications open

  • Build a cost estimate for your costs. Include tuition, compulsory fees, housing, food, books, transportation, insurance and personal costs.
  • Search OUInfo and university award pages.
  • Ask the school which awards require nomination and when its internal nomination deadline occurs.
  • Prepare an activity record and a short résumé. Also prepare references and financial documents. Do not recycle one generic essay.

When applications open

  • Submit admission applications early enough to receive every university applicant number before award deadlines.
  • Open each applicant portal and locate its awards or financial-aid area.
  • Record separate scholarship, bursary, residence and document dates.
  • Use the Fall 2027 OUAC opening and deadline guide for central application timing. But do not treat the OUAC deadline as the scholarship deadline.

After applying

  • Complete every required university award profile.
  • Confirm references and school nominations were actually submitted.
  • Apply separately for OSAP when the correct academic-year application opens.
  • Watch portals, email and offer letters for award decisions and conditions.

Before accepting an offer

  • Compare net cost after confirmed renewable and one-time funding.
  • Read the scholarship response deadline separately from the admission-offer response date.
  • Verify the required final average and full-time course load. Also verify the eligible program or campus and renewal GPA (grade point average).
  • Ask the awards office in writing about stacking, deferral and changes of program.

Scholarships for international applicants

International applicants can receive some automatic and competitive university awards, but the eligible inventory is smaller than a broad “all scholarships” search can suggest. Citizenship, permanent-resident status, study-permit status, international fee classification, country, curriculum, faculty, campus and donor restrictions can all matter.

U of T's admission-award page includes domestic and international applicants in several automatic routes. Queen's current profile guidance also distinguishes automatic grade-based consideration from additional profiles. Waterloo publishes separate international scholarships alongside its general entrance awards.

For every international award, calculate the remaining balance. Compare it against international tuition and compulsory health coverage. Also compare housing, food, travel, permit-related costs and the current proof-of-funds rules. A large headline award can still leave a large funding gap.

OSAP and university awards can work together, but they are separate

OSAP can help eligible Ontario residents pay for tuition, books, equipment and school fees. For full-time students, it can also help with living expenses. OSAP looks at your financial circumstances, education costs, course load and other factors. University scholarships and bursaries can use different evidence and deadlines.

Use our current OSAP guide for the 2026–2027 application. It covers grants, loans, eligibility, deadlines and status steps. Always report scholarships, bursaries or other resources when the live OSAP application or your financial-aid office requires it.

QuestionWhy it matters
Is the amount per year or total?A “$12,000 scholarship” may mean $3,000 in each of four years.
Is it renewable?A renewable award normally has GPA, course-load and registration conditions.
Which grade calculation controls it?Early offers, May grades and final grades can produce different scholarship decisions.
Can it be combined?Some awards stack; others replace or reduce overlapping university funding.
Is it tied to a program or campus?Changing a choice after admission can change eligibility.
What happens after deferral?An admission deferral does not automatically preserve every award.
When must it be accepted?A scholarship can have a response deadline distinct from the OUAC offer deadline.
