Royal Roads markets what it calls 'Canada's most flexible undergraduate degree' and 'the most flexible undergrad in Canada.' One-year certificates are stand-alone credentials. They are designed to lead directly into the second year of a diploma. Two-year diplomas are stand-alone credentials. They are designed to lead into years three and four of a bachelor's degree. Royal Roads states a bachelor's degree can be earned in as little as three years. It also states that first-year students spend the majority of their studies at the Langford campus.

What on-campus housing actually is

Royal Roads describes campus accommodation as a temporary home away from home. It is for students attending in-person residencies. The Nixon building has 33 private single-occupancy rooms. Each has an en-suite washroom, mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. It also has 59 dormitory-style single-occupancy rooms with shared washrooms. There is no conventional first-year residence system. There is no published year-long room contract. There is no residence meal plan.

This is the biggest planning difference between Royal Roads and a conventional university. If you are in sustained on-campus study, you must arrange Greater Victoria housing yourself.

Then you can book online from the night before the residency starts until the day after it ends. Separately, you can request a temporary stay of up to four weeks. Cooking, check-in, and parking

Cooking facilities are limited. Student lounges have shared fridges, a microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster, a kettle and cutlery. There are no stoves. Hotplates and similar appliances are banned in rooms and lounges. You can buy meals at the Habitat Café Monday to Friday. You get a bonus for prepaying on a Value Card. Check-in is at the Welcome Desk in the Sequoia building. It is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends and holidays.
