Nomination or direct application
Some awards let you apply on your own. Others need your high school to nominate you first, and a school can only nominate a few students. The “How you apply” line under each date shows which.
If an award needs a nomination, talk to your guidance counsellor early in Grade 12. Your school may set its own earlier date to pick a nominee.
What these awards look for
Most major awards weigh leadership and service as well as marks, and several ask for essays, interviews or video answers. Read each provider's own description of what it looks for, then pick examples that show it.
References matter. Our reference letters guide compares what the major awards ask referees to do.
- Start a list of your activities, roles and dates now. Every application asks for it.
- Ask referees at least three weeks before the date, and give them your list.
- Apply to more than one. Each award is a separate competition.
Plan around the dates
These awards don't share one calendar. Some close in the fall of Grade 12 and others in the winter. Check scholarship deadlines this month and put every date in your calendar.
Most universities also consider you for automatic entrance scholarships when you apply. See Ontario scholarships for Grade 12 or run the Scholarship Finder for those.
How this list works
Every award here comes from the same checked list as our Scholarship Finder. Each record links to the provider's own page and shows the day we last checked it. We never copy award details from aggregator sites.
Awards that are closed for this cycle are left out of the tables. They come back when the provider posts new dates. Dates refresh on their own, so a passed date drops off the page.
A listing isn't a promise that you qualify. Each provider sets its own rules and picks its own winners. Read the official page before you apply.
