Fall 2027 admissions planning

University of New Brunswick admission requirements by program and campus

UNB is one university with two campuses that are truly different. It does not use one single cut-off. For each program, it publishes a minimum admission average. That average is based on six specific Grade 12 courses chosen by the program. Each program is labelled Fredericton, Saint John, or both. The published minimums are 65% for Arts, 70% for the Saint John Applied Management bridges, and 75% for almost everything else. UNB says in its own words that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to any program.

UNB is not an OUAC school. Canadian applicants pay $65, international applicants $125 CAD, and the fee is waived at recruitment events.

Cycle status

UNB has not published a Fall 2027 calendar

The dates-and-deadlines page has no 2027 label anywhere. The calendar in force is the 2026-2027 Admission Regulations. UNB publishes recurring month-and-day deadlines with no year attached. These are March 31, February 15, and May 15. So the page never visibly expires. The only year-stamped dates on the site belong to the Fall 2026 cycle. These are an April 3, 2026 early-deposit draw. There is also a September 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026 fee-waiver window. There is also a January 28, 2026 Schulich nomination deadline. Use the pattern below to plan. Reconfirm every date once UNB posts the 2027-2028 calendar.

Watch the per-course floors and the science sub-average

Several UNB programs set course-level minimums above the overall average. Engineering and Software Engineering need English 4U, MHF4U, SCH4U and SPH4U each at 70%. Computer Science needs MHF4U and one science at 65%. Nursing needs English, Grade 11 math, chemistry and biology each at 70%. On top of that, Science, Arts and Science, Medical Laboratory Science and the Saint John Bachelor of Health Sciences add a second rule: the average of pre-calculus math, chemistry, and the best other science must itself be at least 75%. A 78% overall average with a 65% in physics still fails Engineering.

Application checklist

1.Choose the campus as deliberately as the program — Forestry, Kinesiology, Law, Geomatics and Leadership Studies are Fredericton only, while Radiography, Respiratory Therapy, Information Sciences and the Bachelor of Health are Saint John only.
2.Pick the exact program before locking Grade 12 courses; the six courses that feed the admission average are chosen by program, and the per-course floors differ sharply between Computer Science and Software Engineering.
3.Apply directly at apply.unb.ca and pay the $65 Canadian or $125 CAD international fee — or attend a UNB recruitment event inside the published window and have the Canadian fee waived.
4.Send transcripts through MyCreds using the send-to-registered-organization option, not email, and complete the supplementary forms required for Education, Kinesiology, Nursing and Leadership Studies.
5.Complete the entrance scholarship application by March 1. It is a separate submission, and without it the guaranteed 80%+ scholarship does not apply.
6.Apply for residence as early as the campus allows — neither campus publishes a first-year guarantee and both report filling by the end of May.

Five program groups sit in a higher band: Nursing, Education and Arts in Fredericton, and Nursing and Health Sciences in Saint John. Every other program uses the standard band.

Exemptions

You need one of these. One year in a Canadian high school with at least 70% in Grade 12 English (four years for Nursing and Health Sciences). One year in an English-medium school in a listed country. GCE A Level English Literature at C. IB English A at 5 (IB is the International Baccalaureate diploma). Or India CBSE/CISCE Year 12 English at 75%.

What UNB actually publishes right now

Each card below is a single fact checked against one first-party unb.ca page or fee-schedule PDF. It shows the cycle it belongs to and its verification status. Anything UNB has not published for Fall 2027 is marked pending rather than guessed. Where two of its own pages disagree, the card says so. The disagreements are the Forestry minimum, the Education deadline, and the Health Sciences deadline.

UNB takes applications directly through its own portal at apply.unb.ca. UNB does not take applications through OUAC (Ontario's university application site). The application processing fee is non-refundable. The fee is $65 for Canadian applicants. The fee is $125 CAD for international applicants. UNB waives the Canadian fee for high school students. These students must attend a UNB recruitment event inside a published window. MyCreds transcripts must be sent using the send-to-registered-organization option. They must not be sent by email. Supplementary forms are required for Education, Kinesiology, Nursing and Leadership Studies.

Admission deposits

The 2026-2027 Admission Regulations publish a $100 non-refundable admissions deposit for all programs unless otherwise stated. The deposit is $250.00 for the Bachelor of Nursing on both campuses plus the LPN to BN Pathway and LPN Bridging Program. It is $300.00 for the Bachelor of Education in Fredericton. International students pay a $4,000 tuition and PAL deposit. Deposits are non-refundable. There is a documented exception for international students whose study permits are denied.

The student-facing admitted-students page says only that amounts vary by program. The figures live in the calendar regulations.

Two campuses, two different universities in practice

UNB states that the Fredericton campus was established in 1785 and the Saint John campus in 1964. Fredericton runs ten faculties — Arts, Management, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Forestry and Environmental Management, Kinesiology, Law, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Science. Saint John runs four — Arts, Business, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Science, Applied Science and Engineering. Computer Science and Engineering are standalone faculties in Fredericton but departments inside SASE in Saint John.

The program finder labels each offering as Fredericton or Saint John on its own. So campus is a per-program attribute, not a faculty-level one.

UNB publishes a minimum admission average per program instead. UNB repeats that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to any program.

Any UNB acceptance rate you find is third-party modelling. Plan against the published minimum, the per-course grade floors, and the two programs UNB does describe as competitive.

Enrolment by campus

UNB publishes only a combined figure of over 10,600 students. The Fact Book index names tables that would break enrolment down by campus and academic level. But those tables are not exposed as fetchable documents from the public pages reviewed for this guide.

Do not infer a Fredericton or Saint John headcount from the combined total. If campus size matters to your decision, ask each campus recruitment office directly.

How the admission average is calculated

UNB states that students must complete six specific high school courses for their program of choice. UNB takes the overall average of the grades in those six courses to calculate the minimum admission average. If a required Grade 12 course is still in progress, the Grade 11 prerequisite is used to estimate. UNB does not accept mid-term grades. If several acceptable electives exist, UNB states it will choose the elective courses with the highest grades.

The five elective groups

UNB sorts acceptable electives into five groups: Group 1 senior secondary additional or advanced math, biology, chemistry, computer or information technology, French, geography, history, geology, law, political science, science, physics, sociology and environmental studies; Group 2 accounting, business studies and marketing; Group 3 communication, art, music and drama; Group 4 computer assisted drafting and electronics; and Group 5 health or physical education.

Program requirements name the group a course must come from. So two students with the same averages can be assessed differently. It depends on which group their electives sit in.

The scholarship average and its bonus points

The scholarship average is the admission average plus bonus points. You get these points for completed enriched Grade 11 and 12 courses. These include AP (Advanced Placement courses and exams), IB, Level 1 and similar. You must have achieved 75% or higher in them. One to three enriched courses earn one bonus point. Four to six earn a maximum of two. Seven to nine earn a maximum of three. Ten or more earn a maximum of four. UNB states directly that the scholarship average is not rounded. A 79.9% average does not become an 80%.

This is the load-bearing detail behind the guaranteed scholarship. The 80% threshold is measured on the un-rounded scholarship average. It is not measured on the admission average.

The science sub-average rule

For the Bachelor of Science, the Bachelor of Arts and Science, Medical Laboratory Science, the Saint John Bachelor of Health Sciences and the concurrent science combinations, UNB adds a second rule on top of the 75% overall minimum: the average of the marks in pre-calculus math, chemistry and the best other science course must itself be at least 75%. Students who present only chemistry are considered at the discretion of the faculty.

Ontario course codes UNB names

UNB's Ontario requirements name English 4U everywhere, Math MHF4U wherever senior math including pre-calculus is required, and Biology SBI4U, Chemistry SCH4U and Physics SPH4U for the sciences. UNB states that Math MCB4U and MGA4U are also accepted at the same grade floor, and Nursing, Recreation and Sport Studies, Forestry and Environmental Management instead accept Grade 11 math MCF3M or MCR3U. The Saint John Bachelor of Health Sciences requires Grade 11 physics SPH3U rather than SPH4U.

The important-notes page states the substitution. Ontario applicants may present Math MCB4U and Math MGA4U wherever Math MCV4U and MHF4U are required.

Forestry and Environmental Management minimum is contradicted

UNB's program-specific requirements page publishes a 75% minimum admission average for the BSc in Forestry and the BSc in Environment and Natural Resources. The Ontario view of UNB's own admission requirements tool publishes a minimum admission average of 70% for both Forestry and Environmental Management with the same course list. The two first-party pages have not been reconciled.

Fredericton Bachelor of Education deadline is contradicted

The dates-and-deadlines page and the 2026-2027 Admission Regulations both publish December 1 for the Fredericton Bachelor of Education, the School Years Program and the Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education. The Canadian high school and transfer page and the international application deadlines page both publish December 15 for the same programs.

Work to December 1. It is the earlier of the two dates and it is the one carried by both the calendar of record and the central dates page.

Saint John Bachelor of Health Sciences deadline is contradicted

For the Saint John Bachelor of Health Sciences, the dates-and-deadlines page and the calendar regulations both publish February 15. The admission requirements tool entry for Health Sciences instead states an application deadline of mid-January. It says interviews are conducted and notifications are by late March.

Prepare for mid-January. If the earlier date is the operative one, a February 15 submission is already late; if it is not, an early submission costs nothing.

Nursing selection is not average-only

UNB states that all applicants to nursing programs must write the Acuity Insights Casper test. This is an online open-response situational judgement test. UNB states that admission decisions are based on the applicant's admission average or GPA at 60% weight and the Casper score at 40% weight. The Bachelor of Nursing runs at both Fredericton and Saint John. There is a separate Advanced Standing route at a Moncton site.

A situational judgement test has a 40% weight. This is the single largest departure from a pure-average admission model. It is the largest anywhere in UNB's undergraduate intake.

English language requirements and the higher band

For direct entry into most programs, you can use IELTS Academic 6.5 overall or TOEFL iBT 85 (pre-2026). From January 2026, TOEFL needs 4.5 overall with no less than 4.5 in speaking and writing. CAEL 60, PTE Academic 59, Cambridge English 176, or Duolingo 115 overall also work. Nursing, Education and Arts in Fredericton and Nursing and Health Sciences in Saint John need higher scores. These are IELTS 7.0, TOEFL 100 or 5 overall, Duolingo 130, PTE 68, Cambridge C1 Advanced 190, or CAEL 80. A UNB Fredericton English Language Programme assessment of 85 with no sub-score below 85 also works.

English test exemptions

UNB exempts applicants who studied at a Canadian high school for at least one year. For Nursing and Health Science programs, the rule is four years. These applicants need a minimum 70% in Grade 12 English, such as ENG4U or EAE4U. UNB also exempts applicants from a listed set of English-speaking countries. They must meet the same one-year rule. UNB also exempts applicants with GCE A Level English Literature at C or IB English A at 5. It also exempts applicants with India CBSE and CISCE Year 12 English at 75%. Conditional admission is available through PAEP in Fredericton and Saint John College in Saint John.

The four-year rule for Nursing and Health Sciences is much stricter than the one-year general rule. It catches applicants who moved to Canada for senior high school only.

Transfer, AP, IB and A-Level rules

Transfer students must take at least 50 per cent of the credits required for the degree at UNB. Applicants not eligible for re-admission to their last university for academic reasons will not be admitted. AP scores of 3, 4 or 5 are accepted, with some courses requiring 4 or 5. The institution codes are 0976 for Fredericton and 9068 for Saint John. IB credit requires Higher Level results of 5, 6 or 7, with physics requiring 6 or 7. A-Level credit typically requires grade C or above, with Economics, Business and Mathematics requiring B or above. AS-Level does not qualify.

Transfer-credit awards differ by campus for the same AP subject. So check the award for the campus you are entering. Do not check the university generally.

Competitive or mid-range admitted averages

UNB publishes minimum admission averages only. No first-party page reviewed for this guide publishes an admitted-student average or a mid-range band. None publishes a competitive average for any program either. Only Engineering and the Saint John Bachelor of Health Sciences get specific competitiveness language from UNB. Engineering is described as competitive, with second-year discipline entry based on first-year performance. For the Saint John Bachelor of Health Sciences, the number of seats is described as limited.

No competitive average exists first-party. So aim well above the published minimum for Engineering, Nursing and Health Sciences. Do not treat 75% as a target.

Fall 2027 program-specific deadlines

UNB has not published program deadlines with a 2027 label. The February 15, January 31, December 1 and November 15 program dates all appear inside the 2026-2027 Admission Regulations. They also appear on an undated dates page. So they describe the pattern, not a confirmed Fall 2027 calendar.

Check each program deadline again when UNB posts the 2027-2028 calendar. Do not assume the December 1 versus December 15 Education contradiction will be resolved in your favour.
