Programs and Pathways

Program and credential fit

CMU-owned degrees with carefully bounded affiliated study

CMU is an independent degree-granting university. Menno Simons College is its specific UWinnipeg affiliation, while pre-professional study prepares students to apply for professional credentials elsewhere.

Bachelor of Arts

Three- and four-year Arts study spans fields such as Biblical and Theological Studies, Communications and Media, English, Environmental Studies, History, PACTS, Psychology and Social Sciences.

CMU’s directory lists 18 BA majors within a broader seven-degree, 29-major undergraduate portfolio.

Bachelor of Science

Science includes Biology and Mathematics degree routes with options such as Biochemistry and Ecology concentrations.

Pre-professional course planning does not make medicine, dentistry, nursing or veterinary medicine CMU degrees.

Redekop School of Business

The BBA offers Business Management, Accounting, Human Resource Management and Conflict Resolution, and Social Entrepreneurship directions.

Business is also a BA major or minor. Check the credential and the 120-hour WIL requirement before you declare.

Music

CMU offers the Bachelor of Music plus three- and four-year BA Music routes.

BMus entry needs the current primary-instrument or voice audition. The BA Music declaration can also use six introductory Music credits with at least C.

Music Therapy

The four-year BMT combines music, psychology and clinical training. A two-year after-degree route is for applicants with a prior Music degree.

Music Therapy has a separate audition/interview and national professional-certification pathway.

Bachelor of Social Work

This is a 120-credit degree. Final program admission comes after at least 27 university credits and more than 700 placement hours in third and fourth year.

The live program describes CASWE Pre-Accreditation status, not a completed full-accreditation claim.

Bachelor of Education after-degree

This is a 16-month intensive route that begins in August. It is for applicants who already hold an approved bachelor’s degree.

It is a later-entry CMU degree with separate competitive admission and Manitoba certification steps.

Menno Simons College / UWinnipeg

CMU’s MSC program offers Conflict Resolution Studies in affiliation with the University of Winnipeg. The courses are integrated into UWinnipeg’s BA curriculum.

The three-year CRS major continues, four-year CRS is returning-students-only, and IDS no longer admits new majors. Do not attribute the entire UWinnipeg catalogue to CMU.

Outtatown

Outtatown was CMU’s former discipleship and cross-cultural learning program.

CMU announced it discontinued the program indefinitely in 2020; archived descriptions are not a current Fall 2027 offering.

Three boundaries worth checking

  • BSW final admission follows university study; BEd requires a prior bachelor’s degree.
  • Menno Simons Conflict Resolution Studies is affiliated with UWinnipeg. That does not move the whole UWinnipeg catalogue to CMU.
  • Outtatown was discontinued indefinitely in 2020 and is not a current Fall 2027 option.

Bachelor of Social Work is later entry

Compare CMU’s three housing buildings and capacity caveat

Dorm rooms and apartments have different meal rules. The free Poettcker room offer has eligibility rules. But CMU also says space is limited and housing is not guaranteed.

Poettcker Hall dorm

$1,299.60 per semester

This is the current double-occupancy rate for students who are not eligible for the free-dorm offer. Utilities and internet are included.

Concord Hall dorm

$1,627.27 per semester

Current double-occupancy rate; shared bathroom arrangement and utilities are included.

Full-board meal plan

$2,638.74 per semester

Mandatory for dormitory residents and includes three meals daily plus snacks and evening snack.

Poettcker Hall apartments

$2,367.42–$4,493.10 per student / semester

These are current examples, from a shared two-bedroom to a solo two-bedroom. Studio and one-bedroom rates also change by occupancy.

Concord / Katharine Friesen apartments

$2,167.50–$5,929.26 per student / semester

Current published apartment range across occupancy choices; apartment residents also pay the community fee.

The current page says domestic and international students qualify if they are age 21 or younger and in their first two semesters. They need 12 credits per term and the full-board meal plan. After-degree students are excluded.

Work-integrated learning

Every degree includes WIL, but the model is not one universal co-op

CMU’s standard language is supervised, for-credit placement that may be paid or unpaid. Business, Social Work and Music Therapy then add program-specific hour and placement structures.

University-wide WIL requirement

CMU says every degree student completes at least one work-integrated learning placement. CMU also says 100% of undergraduates can complete one regardless of major.

Internship model, not universal co-op

CMU calls its placements supervised, structured, for-credit internships. They may be paid or unpaid. CMU does not publish one universal alternating co-op schedule.

WIL course choices

Options include 60- or 120-hour seminars. They also include intensive six- or twelve-week placements. A Social Innovation Lab has separate prerequisites.

Business placement

Redekop School programs publish at least 120 hours of business-related work experience.

Social Work field education

The BSW publishes more than 700 hours across two third- and fourth-year field placements.

Music Therapy clinical training

The BMT publishes three supervised practicum placements plus one full-time 1,000-hour internship.
