Read the amount line closely

Big numbers are often a total over four years, or the top of a range that only some winners get. The amount column shows the provider's own wording, so check whether it's per year, in total or “up to”.

Multi-year awards usually renew only if you keep a set average. Our renewable scholarships page explains what to check.

Plan for a competition

Large awards are competitive. Most weigh leadership and service as well as marks, and several ask for essays, interviews or a school nomination.

Our guide to Loran, Schulich Leader and other major awards compares the best-known ones side by side.

  • Start a list of activities, roles and dates now.
  • Ask referees at least three weeks before the date.
  • Apply to several. Each is a separate competition.

How this list works

Every award here comes from the same checked list as our Scholarship Finder. Each record links to the provider's own page and shows the day we last checked it. We never copy award details from aggregator sites.

Awards that are closed for this cycle are left out of the tables. They come back when the provider posts new dates. Dates refresh on their own, so a passed date drops off the page.

A listing isn't a promise that you qualify. Each provider sets its own rules and picks its own winners. Read the official page before you apply.
