Université de Montréal requirements for Fall 2027

Choose the credential route before comparing grades. The same high school record can lead to a regular three-year bachelor’s, an integrated four-year bachelor’s, or a separate preparatory-year route depending on Québec equivalency and the target program.

Québec CEGEP applicant	Complete the DEC and the prerequisites published for the target program.	Capacity-limited programs may rank eligible applicants or add tests, interviews, portfolios, and other selection. A minimum threshold is not an offer guarantee.
Ontario or other Canadian high-school applicant	A 12-year high-school diploma earned outside Québec can fit an eligible four-year UdeM bachelor’s route, which combines 24 preparatory credits (plus 0–6 French-course credits) with three years in a Faculty of Arts and Sciences discipline.	More than 30 disciplines use the four-year structure, but it is not available for every degree, and quota programs are excluded. If the target is excluded, applicants may need separate applications to the 24-credit preparatory year and the desired program.
Applicant with a 12-year international credential	UdeM assesses whether the credential is equivalent to a Québec DEC. When it is not, the four-year bachelor’s route or preparatory year may supply the missing university preparation.	Country equivalence, program prerequisites, French evidence, and immigration timing must all be checked. Do not order a WES ECA unless another process separately requires one.
Applicant with prior university study	The exact program decides whether prior university study supports eligibility. Computer Science, for example, publishes routes based on a completed university year or at least 24 university credits.	Transfer credit and admission eligibility are separate decisions. Official transcripts and completion deadlines remain program-specific.
International applicant	Meet the academic and French requirements, then obtain the immigration documents required for study in Québec and Canada.	UdeM advises international applicants not to submit later than April 1 for Fall because immigration can take three to six months; an earlier program deadline still controls.

French evidence changed for Winter 2026 and later

Applicants satisfy the requirement through a recognized academic path in French or an accepted test. A test-based file now includes written comprehension, oral comprehension, and written expression. Thresholds and upload deadlines remain program-specific; written results can also lead to required French courses after admission.

Four-year bachelor’s versus preparatory year

The four-year Faculty of Arts and Sciences routes use one application and continue automatically into the chosen discipline after successful first-year preparatory and French courses. If the desired degree is not in that pathway, UdeM says to apply to the preparatory year and target program separately.

Recognized academic path in French	A study path recognized by UdeM — such as passing Québec’s college-level Épreuve uniforme de français — satisfies the requirement without a test.	Most anglophone Caribbean and Canadian applicants do not hold one of these paths and should plan for a test or francization route.
TEF family	TEF Études (UdeM admission version), TEF Canada, and TEFaQ are accepted. From Winter 2026, three results are required for most programs: written comprehension, oral comprehension, and written expression.	Book early enough to retake before the February 15, 2027 Fall 2027 evidence deadline for applicants outside Québec.
TCF family	TCF Canada, TCF Québec, and TCF tout public are accepted with the same three-result structure for most programs.	Results must be less than 24 months old at the start of the admission term.
DELF / DALF diplomas	DELF B2, DALF C1, and DALF C2 are accepted. Whether a given diploma level satisfies a program depends on that program’s published minimum.	Check the exact program page; comprehension scores are averaged against the program minimum, while written expression is assessed separately.
UdeM francization routes	UdeM’s intensive university francization program, or FRS 2804 plus one of FRS 1607, FRS 2704, or FRS 2707 completed with at least a B-, is accepted as French evidence.	This is the realistic on-ramp for committed anglophones without test results, but it adds time and cost before or alongside degree study.

Québec CEGEP applicants — Computer Science	March 1, 2027	Published Fall 2027 deadline for the CEGEP category, with the French-requirement task due March 15, 2027. The Preparatory Year lists February 1, 2027 for both categories.
Winter 2027 intake — Computer Science and Preparatory Year	November 1, 2026	Published Winter 2027 application deadline, with the French task due December 15, 2026. Useful for applicants who miss or skip the Fall cycle.
International Fall planning ceiling	April 1	UdeM’s latest general immigration-planning date, not an extension of a program deadline that falls earlier.
Music, health-professional, quota, or other exception	Program-specific	The date in the official program description takes precedence and may include separate document, French-test, interview, audition, or portfolio dates.
