Course requirements
TMU needs an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12 U or M courses and an overall average of at least 70%. Every engineering program requires English (ENG4U, or EAE4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Physics (SPH4U) and Chemistry (SCH4U), with at least 70% in each.
Students educated outside Ontario are considered with the equivalent courses. Map your Grade 11 and 12 plan with our course planner.

How TMU counts your average
TMU calculates your overall average from your best six Grade 12 U or M courses, which may or may not include the prerequisites. Averages are taken to two decimal places and aren't rounded. Repeated or upgraded marks can count, and you can mix U and M courses.
Grade 11 marks may be used for early offers, but every offer sets the Grade 12 final results you must reach. You must finish your requirements by June 30 unless your offer says otherwise. The out-of-school part of a Grade 12 co-op course doesn't count.

Applying from another province or the IB
Students at Canadian high schools outside Ontario are considered with their province's equivalent courses. TMU says calculus is required for every engineering program, and subject grades are normally needed in the 65 to 75% range.
IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma students need grades of 4 or higher in three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects, with a total of at least 28. IB and AP courses may also earn transfer credit.

What the grade ranges mean
TMU's 70% is the minimum to be considered. The grade range on each program page is what was needed in previous years. TMU says the real average changes each year with the number of applications and spaces.
Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering show 90%+. The other six programs show 85-90%. TMU doesn't publish an engineering acceptance rate. See our TMU acceptance rate page for what it does publish, and check your own average with our Top 6 average calculator.

Grades-only, and the February 1 date
Every TMU engineering program is grades-only. There's no supplementary application, essay or interview, so admission rests on your academic performance.
TMU's guaranteed consideration date for Fall 2027 is February 1. Complete applications received by then get equal consideration, and TMU recommends applying and sending documents as early as you can. Most decisions for grades-only programs come out between February and the end of May, on a rolling basis. If you apply by February 1 and land on a wait list, TMU tells you by late May.

You apply to a program, with a shared start
At TMU you apply directly to one engineering program. First semester is common to Aerospace, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. Second semester is shared by smaller groups, such as Industrial, Mechanical and Mechatronics.
The First Year Engineering Office handles first-year academic and administrative matters, with orientation, tutoring and study groups. Each program is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board and ends with a capstone design project.

Co-op
Each engineering program comes in a four-year format or a five-year co-op format. TMU's career-integrated co-op and internship program lets you combine your studies with up to 16 months of paid work.
Mechanical Engineering, for example, lists employers such as Apple, Bombardier, General Motors, Ontario Power Generation and Pfizer, and 21 mechanical, industrial and mechatronics labs.

Tuition and scholarships
TMU's engineering program pages list 2026-27 tuition and fees of $10,960 to $11,571 for Ontario students, $13,773 to $14,572 from other provinces and $44,375 to $44,675 for international students. 2027-28 fees aren't posted yet.
For Fall 2027, TMU guarantees a renewable entrance scholarship to students at Canadian high schools with a final average of 86% or more: $750 a year at 86% to 89.99%, $1,500 at 90% to 94.99% and $3,000 at 95% or more. Renewal depends on your yearly CGPA. Estimate yours on our Top 6 average calculator, and see our TMU financial aid page.
