Direct entry, grades only
TMU admits Grade 12 students directly into the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology in the Faculty of Arts. TMU calls it a Grades-Only program, which means admission decisions are based on academic performance. There is no supplementary form, essay, interview or portfolio for the four year program.
To be considered, Ontario students need the OSSD and six Grade 12 U or M courses with an overall average of at least 70%. One of those courses must be English, ENG4U or EAE4U, with a grade of 70% or higher.

The average you need
TMU lists a grade range of 75% to 80% for psychology. TMU explains that this range is the average required in previous years. It also says the average needed can change each year, depending on how many people apply and how many spaces there are.
So 70% gets your file read, but past offers needed more. Use our Top 6 average calculator to see where your six courses land, and plan for the 75% to 80% range rather than the minimum.

What first year looks like
TMU's preview, based on the current calendar, lists PSY 102 Introduction to Psychology I, PSY 202 Introduction to Psychology II, SSH 105 Critical Thinking and SSH 205 Academic Writing and Research as required first-year courses. You also take four courses from Table I and two open electives.
Later, you can bring your learning together in a research practicum or a thesis stream, doing independent research with a faculty supervisor. TMU says its Psychology Research and Training Centre has more than 35 psychology labs, with paid and volunteer research assistant positions.

How co-op works in TMU psychology
TMU lists two full-time formats, a 4 year program and a 5 year co-op program. The co-op option gives 12 months of work experience. TMU says employers in its career-integrated co-op network number over 2,500.
The calendar explains how you get into co-op. Students who have completed the first semester of the regular program apply through the department before the end of first year. Enrolment is limited. The decision uses a portfolio with your grade point average, a resume and a statement of intent, and screening interviews may be required. You must finish SSH 104 before your first placement. Because the program page lists a 5 year co-op format while the calendar describes a first-year application, check the OUAC listing and confirm with TMU how co-op entry works for Fall 2027.
Work terms WKT 150, WKT 250 and WKT 350 fall in year two and year three, and you must complete at least three work terms to graduate from co-op. The Career, Co-op and Student Success Centre helps with the job search but cannot guarantee placements.

Tuition for 2026-27
TMU's program page lists a 2026-27 tuition and fees range for full-time study of $7,400 to $7,425 for Ontario students, $9,200 to $9,225 for students from other provinces and $38,706 to $38,731 for international students.
Budget separately for residence, books and living costs. TMU's tuition and fees pages give the detailed breakdown. Co-op students earn wages during work terms, which TMU says can help offset the cost of university.

What the program covers
TMU's calendar frames psychology around questions such as how we perceive, remember and process information, how those processes change over the lifespan, how addictions and brain chemistry are related, how psychological disorders and traumatic brain injury are diagnosed and treated, and how we cope with stress.
The program has three stated goals: to teach the science of psychology and how it applies to real life, to prepare students for careers that solve problems with a psychological side, and to give a foundation for graduate study in psychology and other fields.

Choosing your other five Grade 12 courses
TMU names only one required course, Grade 12 U English, and says ENG4U or EAE4U is preferred. The other five can be any Grade 12 U or M courses. TMU does not list a math or science prerequisite on the psychology page.
That freedom means your average is the whole application. The calendar adds that, subject to competition, candidates may need averages or grades above the minimum. Pick five courses where you expect strong marks, and plan them with our high school course planner.

For parents
Your child's six Grade 12 U or M marks decide this application, so a steady final year matters more than anything else. ENG4U has its own 70% floor, so keep an eye on that course.
Co-op is not chosen on the high school application in TMU's calendar. Students apply during first year, so strong first semester grades help with that later step too. Read our TMU university guide for the wider picture.
