Course requirements
Ontario students need English (ENG4U, or EAE4U), Physics (SPH4U) and one of Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Advanced Functions (MHF4U). TMU asks for at least 70% in each required course.
Your average is taken from six Grade 12 U or M courses. Art is not a required course, but it helps you build portfolio work. Plan your year with our course planner.

The average you need
TMU says an overall average of 70% is required for consideration. It also lists a grade range of 90% and up. TMU explains that this range shows the average needed in previous years, and that it changes with the number of applications and spaces.
So treat 90% as the real target. TMU does not publish an acceptance rate for this program. Check where you stand with our Top 6 average calculator.
How grades and the portfolio work together
Architectural Science is a Grades Plus program. That means TMU looks at your grades and your non academic work. The selection committee may score your portfolio before your grades arrive.
TMU says its academic standards still decide your admission in the end. The committee's score on your portfolio is final. Because of the number of applicants, TMU will not review a portfolio a second time.

The portfolio and home exercise
Send 12 to 14 examples of your own creative work in different media. For 3D work, add photos from several angles. TMU is not keen on scaled plans or detailed technical drawings; keep them to a small part. For each piece, list the title, media, date, size and a one line description. Process images are required.
The home exercise is called Section Sensation. Pick an object that is not a building and draw its section, as if it were cut in half. Show the drawing, a photo of the object and a third image you create for context, plus sketches of your process. Then write up to 150 words on the object, what the section shows and your third image.
Submit one PDF with the home exercise clearly labelled. Do not put your name on it and do not send a resume. Include your TMU student number. Only one upload is considered, so check it before you send it.
Dates for Fall 2027
February 1, 2027 is TMU's guaranteed consideration date for all programs. The portfolio is due February 1, 2027 or 10 business days after you apply, whichever is later. You also pay the $50 assessment fee before TMU reviews your work.
OUAC has its own January deadline for Ontario high school students, so apply in January. Compare dates on our Ontario deadlines page.

When offers come out
TMU releases decisions on a rolling basis. For Grades Plus programs such as Architectural Science, it lists mid March as the first round of offers. TMU says these dates may change, so watch your ChooseTMU Applicant Portal.
If you applied by February 1 and are placed on a wait list, TMU says you will hear by late May. A wait list is not a refusal, so keep your other offers open until you hear back. Your final grades still matter after an offer, so keep your marks steady through June.

Program structure
The degree is a Bachelor of Architectural Science (Honours). The first three years are a common foundation with design studios, structures and liberal studies. In the final year you can stay general or choose a concentration in Architecture, Building Science or Project Management.
TMU says it is the only school in Canada that blends these three fields in one model. Labs include a digital fabrication lab, a robot and CNC lab, a building science lab and a woodshop.

Co-op option
You can take the degree in four years, or in five years with co-op. The co-op stream gives 12 to 16 months of paid work over four work terms. You need at least three work terms to graduate with the co-op designation.
Students work with architecture, engineering and construction firms. Toronto puts many of these employers close to campus.

Path to becoming an architect
The BArchSc is the first step. To become a licensed architect, graduates usually complete a professional Master of Architecture. TMU offers its own M.Arch, which holds a six year CACB accreditation term.
Transfer students should know TMU will not give architecture transfer credits unless the earlier program was CACB accredited.

Tuition for 2026-27
TMU lists a full time tuition and fees range for 2026-2027 of $10,960 to $11,571 for Ontario students. Students from other provinces pay $13,773 to $14,572. International students pay $44,375 to $44,675.
Studio courses need supplies, model materials and printing, so add a supplies budget on top of tuition. TMU's program page does not post a separate supplies estimate for this degree. Ask the department what first year students usually spend.
Entrance scholarships
For 2027-2028, TMU guarantees renewable scholarships by final admission average. 95% and up earns $3,000 a year, or $12,000 in total. 90% to 94.99% earns $6,000. 86% to 89.99% earns $3,000. Renewal depends on your yearly CGPA.
Since past admits were in the 90%+ range, many students may qualify for one of the top two levels.

For parents
The 70% minimum is not the real bar. Past averages were 90% and up, and the portfolio is scored too. Your child must make all of the work.
