Course requirements from Ontario

UWindsor asks for Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), Physics (SPH4U) and English (ENG4U). Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) is not mandatory, but Windsor strongly recommends it.

If you are missing a required course or your marks are too low, Windsor says you must take or upgrade the course first. You can do that in summer school, adult education or your own high school. You can also start in another program and transfer once you meet the requirements. Plan your Grade 12 year with our course planner.

International high school students need Grade 12 Advanced Functions, Chemistry, Physics and English, with the same 74% minimum and 88% mean. Calculus and Vectors is strongly recommended for them too.

The 74% minimum and the 88% mean

The program page sets the minimum at a 74% average of all your math and science courses, not counting Biology, and lists a mean average of 88%. The engineering FAQ also says the math and science average must be 74% or higher, and that every engineering program needs at least 74% from your top six courses. The two pages describe the 74% a little differently, so please confirm with Windsor which courses it counts for you.

These are minimums. The FAQ says incoming students usually average 85 to 90%. Windsor's Fall 2025 report shows an 86.3% average for new Engineering students from Ontario high schools. Windsor does not publish an Engineering acceptance rate. Our University of Windsor acceptance rate page covers what it does share. Check your marks with our Top 6 average calculator.

No supplementary application

Windsor's engineering FAQ states that there is no supplemental application for its undergraduate engineering programs. There is no interview or Casper test either. Your Grade 12 marks decide your offer.

Windsor's WINONE First-Year Office helps students as they apply to first-year engineering, and you can book an appointment with it. Once you start, WINONE tutorials give free one-on-one help from senior engineering students in first and second-year courses.

How to apply and key dates

Ontario high school students apply through the OUAC by January 15 for the fall term. Windsor's FAQ doesn't print the year, so for Fall 2027 plan on January 15, 2027. Your school sends your grades to Windsor through the OUAC.

Windsor also offers a January start. It repeats term 1 from January to April and term 2 from May to August, so you stay on track for second year. This can help if you need to upgrade a course in the fall first.

Common first year and programs

All four-year BASc programs share the same first-year courses. You study forces and motion, electricity and magnetism, math, design and graphics, chemistry and materials, technical communication, professional issues and introductory electrical and computing.

You then choose a field for second year. Windsor's undergraduate list includes Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial and Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Systems Engineering, Engineering Technology and General Engineering. You can enter as a General Engineering student and choose later. All of Windsor's engineering programs are accredited.

Engineering co-op

Co-op is optional, and you can choose it on your OUAC application or apply in second year. Co-op students still finish a four-year honours degree, with about one year of paid work. The sequence is study in first year, a summer work term after second year, a winter work term in third year and a fall work term in fourth year.

To stay in co-op after first year you need a 70% first-year average. With 60 to 69.9% you must re-apply in second year. In the fall of second year you complete a job readiness program called Transform. For May 2026 to April 2027, the co-op fee is $485.00 for each of 8 terms for domestic students and $601.00 for international students.

Tuition and costs

Windsor's Tuition Fee Estimator shows approved 2026-27 fees. For one full-time fall term in Engineering, base tuition is $5,721.65 for Ontario students, $6,068.25 for Canadians from outside Ontario and $22,050.00 for international students. Two terms come to about $11,443.30 for Ontario students, by our arithmetic.

The estimator adds incidental and society fees, such as a bus pass, dental and drug plans and a recreation fee. With those, the estimated fall total for an Ontario student is $7,484.90 including the co-op fee.

Scholarships

From 2026-27, Windsor's automatic entrance scholarships are for domestic students coming straight from high school. They use your top six Grade 12 U or M courses. An average of 85 to 89.99% earns $1,000 once. 90 to 94.99% earns $10,000 over 8 terms, and 95% or higher earns $16,000 over 8 terms.

Students who register in Engineering are also considered for an extra $1,000 scholarship. For 2027-28, the UWinAward application for other entrance awards opens January 1, and you don't need an offer to apply. The Outstanding Scholars program is worth a look if your average is over 85%.

First-year residence

Windsor guarantees a room to domestic students entering first year who apply and pay the residence deposit by the guarantee date. Housing sets that date each year, at or a few days after the OUAC response date. After it, rooms depend on space.

For Fall 2026 and Winter 2027, a Cartier Hall double costs $9,500 and singles range from $9,000 to $11,768 for both terms. Windsor notes these rates were not yet approved by its Board. A meal plan is mandatory.

Windsor's finance office lists a $475.00 residence deposit. International undergraduates also pay a $2,000.00 tuition deposit. Fall fees are due August 15, 2026 and winter fees December 15, 2026, so plan for two payments.

For parents

Windsor Engineering admits on Grade 12 marks alone, with no supplementary application. The official minimum is 74%, but new students average in the high 80s, so treat 74% as a floor, not a target. Your child needs Chemistry and Physics, and Calculus is strongly recommended.

Co-op adds paid work without adding a year, but it needs a 70% first-year average to keep. Compare other schools on our engineering requirements across Canada page and read our University of Windsor guide.
