Course requirements
York asks Ontario students for an OSSD (the Ontario Secondary School Diploma). Both degrees need English (ENG4U) and a 4U math. For the BA, add one of Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) or Physics (SPH4U). For the BSc, add Chemistry or Physics. Either way you need three more 4U or 4M courses.
Biology isn't required for the BSc, which surprises some students. If you're unsure which degree you want, taking Chemistry or Physics keeps both open. Plan your courses with our course planner.

The high 70s and the 74% condition
York says applicants with averages in the high 70s or higher may be considered. That's a starting point, not a guarantee, because York compares you with the year's applicants.
Your offer has a condition: a 74% final average. Keep your second-semester marks up so you don't lose a place you've already been offered. York doesn't publish a kinesiology acceptance rate; see our York acceptance rate page, and check your average with our Top 6 average calculator.

How to apply
Apply through OUAC by January 15, 2027, using YHC for the BA or YHD for the BSc. York says it keeps accepting applications until each program is full, but early applications are safer. There's no supplementary application for Kinesiology.
Kinesiology admits students in the fall only, for first year and upper years. You can study full time or part time.

What you study
York's course list covers human anatomy, physiology, fitness assessment, research methods, sport psychology and nutrition. You can focus on areas such as Neuroscience and Motor Control, Physical Activity and Injury Prevention, or Fitness and Health.
Every student takes Integrated Physical Activity for Life (IPAL): two year-long experiential courses in physical fitness, mental health, physical literacy, adapted and inclusive activity, leadership and safety. Labs run through the degree in fitness assessment, anatomy, exercise physiology and biomechanics.

Optional co-op
Kinesiology & Health Science is one of the Faculty of Health programs with an optional co-op. You first take HH/COOP 2999, a 3-credit course on job searching, offered in Fall 2026 and Winter 2027. It has limited, first-come spaces and isn't open to students entering their final year.
You then apply for approved jobs. In a 120-credit degree you can complete eight to 12 months of co-op. For 2026-27, York lists a one-time $200 registration fee and $500 for each work term course. Co-op jobs are competitive and not guaranteed, and some involve a longer commute or moving.

IB students
IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma students need passes in six subjects, with three at higher level and three at standard level, or four higher and two standard. You need one IB math course (Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretations, at either level), plus Biology, Chemistry or Physics for the BA, or Chemistry or Physics for the BSc.
York considers IB students with at least 28 diploma points, and you must keep 28 points to hold your offer. Higher-level courses with final grades of 5 or better can earn transfer credit, up to 30 credits. AP exams with scores of 4 or 5 can also earn transfer credit, up to the same 30-credit limit.

Applying from college or university
College applicants need a diploma or at least one year of full-time study, with an average of 3.3 or better on a 4-point scale. University applicants need at least four full-year courses or a year of full-time study with a 2.3 average. Both need the math and science prerequisites, satisfied within the previous five years.
York may admit college and university applicants who are missing one prerequisite, as long as they complete it in their first year in the Faculty of Health. Mature students, aged at least 21 and out of high school for two years, need the same math and science prerequisites.

Tuition and scholarships
York's 2026-27 tuition estimates page doesn't list Kinesiology separately. Its estimate for most programs is about $6,200 a year for domestic students and $40,000 for international students, with a 2% domestic increase over 2025-26. Exact amounts are on York's course and program fees page.
York's Automatic Entrance Scholarship needs no application: $1,000 at 80% to 84.9%, $1,500 at 85% to 89.9%, $2,000 at 90% to 94.9% and $3,500 at 95% or more. It's renewable with an 8.0 GPA over at least 24 credits. York estimates $9,000 to $13,000 for an eight-month residence room.

Careers and further study
York lists careers such as sports administration, fitness training and coaching, and research. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dentistry and pharmacy need additional qualifications, and medicine needs further training.
If you're aiming for a professional program, keep your grades strong from first year, because those programs set their own competitive admission.

For parents
York considers averages from the high 70s, but the 74% final condition is real. A big drop in second semester could cost the offer.
The BA and BSc lead to the same program. Choose by the science your child is taking, and use the BSc if they're leaning toward health professions that expect chemistry or physics.
