York University Libraries: Scott, Steacie, Bronfman and Frost

Scott Library in Central Square is York's main library and has the longest hours on the Keele campus. Steacie covers the sciences, Bronfman sits inside the Schulich School of Business, and Leslie Frost serves Glendon. You can book group study rooms at five libraries through LibCal with your Passport York login, and your YU-card is your library card.

Which library to use

York University Libraries lists eight locations across its campuses, including the Clara Thomas Archives and Osgoode's law library. These five are the ones most undergraduates use for everyday study. The hours below are the posted hours for the weeks of September 28 and October 5, 2026. Every location except Steacie is closed on Thanksgiving Monday, October 12.

Scott Library: the late-night option

Scott is open until 11 p.m. Monday to Thursday in early fall 2026, later than any other York library. It's the only York library with a posted Sunday evening opening. York hasn't posted 24-hour or extended exam hours for fall 2026, so check the hours page again in December.

Scott also holds the Map Collection, a Making and Media Creation Lab, a Family Room and an Adaptive Lab for students registered with Student Accessibility Services. The 4th-floor Graduate Reading Room has 122 seats and is for graduate students. Loans from the Sound and Moving Image Collection are handled at the Scott service desk.

Steacie, Bronfman and Frost

Steacie opened on October 14, 1966, and was York's first library. York is removing print books that are available as eBooks to create more study space there. Its May 2026 update said more than 10,900 print books had been removed so far. Steacie is closed on weekends, so science students who study on Saturdays and Sundays usually need Scott.

Bronfman is inside the Schulich School of Business and keeps weekend hours. It has group study rooms plus one individual study room you can book.

Leslie Frost is Glendon's library. It closes at 7 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and is closed on weekends. York's laptop lending page says the only five laptops for loan are at Frost. They're first come, first served, and you can borrow one for up to 24 hours.

How to book a group study room

Group study rooms can be booked at Scott, Steacie, Bronfman, Frost and the Markham Campus Library. You book through the library's LibCal system and sign in with Passport York. Booking hours match library opening hours.

  • Book up to one week ahead.
  • A group study room needs at least two people. Individuals using a group room will be asked to leave.
  • The maximum booking is three hours.
  • Check in with the QR code in the room or your confirmation email. If you're more than 15 minutes late, the booking cancels automatically.
  • Once you've checked in, you can't switch rooms.
  • Food isn't allowed in study rooms.

Printing, borrowing and your YU-card

Your YU-card is your library card. Printing costs 10 cents a page in black and white and 25 cents in colour, paid with your YU-card. You can send jobs from your own laptop through WebPrint and collect them at a campus printer.

Undergraduates can borrow most books for 120 days with unlimited renewals. Borrowing is blocked once your fines reach $25.

For research help, the Learning Commons brings library research help together with the Writing Centre, learning skills support and math help. In-person research help is offered at Scott, Bronfman, Frost and Markham.
