For the BHK, uOttawa asks for English (ENG4U) or Français (FRA4U), one 4U math, and two of Biology, Chemistry, Introductory Kinesiology (PSK4U), Physics 4U or Physics 3U. If you're missing the math, you can take a replacement course at uOttawa the summer before or during first year.

The BScHK asks for ENG4U or FRA4U, Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Biology (SBI4U), and one of Chemistry 4U, Physics 4U or Physics 3U. BHK or BScHK

The BScHK focuses on the biophysical sciences: how biological, anatomical, musculoskeletal and neuromotor systems shape movement, and how sport and activity affect the body. Its Applied Studies in Kinesiology version is built to meet the competencies of the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario. Careers include kinesiologist, personal trainer and exercise physiologist.

The BHK focuses on the social sciences of physical activity, sport, leisure and health. Beyond the general BHK, there are Recreation and Sport Management and Education and Coaching versions. Careers include sport and recreation management, health promotion, coaching and teaching physical education.

Both degrees lead to graduate study in fields such as health sciences, rehabilitation, medicine and epidemiology. French-language dual fast-track options pair either degree with a Master of Health Sciences in occupational therapy or physiotherapy.

The minimum averages

uOttawa publishes minimum admission averages, not ranges: 73% for the BHK and 75% for the BScHK. They're minimums for consideration, not guarantees, and uOttawa doesn't publish a Human Kinetics acceptance rate.

From British Columbia

What the BHK covers

The Honours BHK is 120 units and is offered in English and in French, with co-op and a French immersion stream available. uOttawa notes its requirements changed from the 2025-2026 calendar.

First-year compulsory courses include Functional Anatomy of Movement, Physical Activity in a Global Health Perspective, Sociology of Sport and Physical Activity in Canada and Introduction to Leisure Studies, plus an essay-writing workshop. Second year adds intervention theories and motor control and learning.

How uOttawa makes offers

Ontario high school applicants are reviewed in three rounds. In the first round, mid-November to the end of January, uOttawa uses your best five final Grade 11 or 12 U and M grades, including at least one math and two sciences for programs that need them. It doesn't deny anyone in the first round.

The second round, mid-February to mid-April, uses six grades with at least two Grade 12 marks and checks you're taking the prerequisites. The third round, mid-May to August, uses six Grade 12 grades including all prerequisites, and that's when uOttawa sends denials and alternative offers.

Co-op in third year

Human Kinetics students can't join co-op at admission. uOttawa lists co-op admission for both degrees in third year only, and in most programs you need an 80% average in your first two years to be placed.

Co-op students pay a fee for each matched work term: $896 for Canadians and $1,125 for international students in 2026-27. The School of Human Kinetics also runs an internship course.

uOttawa says it runs Canada's fifth-largest co-op program, with a 95% job placement rate.

Study in English, French or both

uOttawa calls itself the world's largest bilingual English-French university. You can study Human Kinetics in English, in French or in both, and both degrees offer a French Immersion stream where you take a third of your courses in French.

The French Studies Bursary gives $1,000 a year, renewable for three more years, to full-time students in a direct-entry faculty who take enough courses in French each term.

For parents

If your child dropped Calculus, the BHK may be the better fit: it needs only one 4U math, while the BScHK needs both MHF4U and MCV4U. uOttawa does offer replacement math courses.

Because denials only come in the third round, a quiet spring doesn't mean bad news. After your child applies through OUAC, uOttawa sends a uoZone portal login within a week, and that's where the application status appears.

uOttawa also offers a Minor in Studies of Social Issues in Sport, Physical Activity and Leisure, a 30-unit option in English or French for students who want to add the field to another degree.
