Course requirements
Queen's asks for the OSSD (the Ontario Secondary School Diploma) and six 4U or 4M courses. For Kinesiology, three are set: English 4U, Calculus and Vectors 4U and Biology 4U. The School of Kinesiology and Health Studies notes these prerequisites are new for students entering from Fall 2026.
Physics is recommended but not required. Chemistry isn't on the list either. Concurrent Education/Kinesiology (QKF) has the same three required courses. Plan your timetable with our course planner.

The mid 80s minimum
Queen's publishes the minimum average, based on prerequisite courses, that was needed for consideration for September of last year. For Kinesiology (QK) it was the mid 80s. For Concurrent Education/Kinesiology (QKF), which adds teacher education, it was the low 90s. Queen's says these minimums change each year and could be higher.
Queen's gives preference to the strongest overall applicants and doesn't publish a Kinesiology acceptance rate. Our Queen's acceptance rate page explains what it does publish. Work out your average with our Top 6 average calculator.

How to apply
Apply through OUAC by March 1, 2027. Queen's then sends your SOLUS login, and your To-Do List there shows anything else it needs. Queen's recommends applying by November 20, 2026 if you want to submit the Major Admission Award application by December 8, 2026.
Kinesiology has no supplementary application or interview. Documents are due March 31, 2027, and Queen's receives Ontario grades from OUAC on April 30, 2027.

From the IB
IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma students need the full diploma with six subjects, three at Higher Level, no mark below 3 and at least 28 points, not counting bonus points. For Kinesiology the prerequisites are English, Biology and Mathematics.
Queen's doesn't accept Mathematics Applications and Interpretations SL as the math prerequisite.

From outside Ontario
Queen's sets matching courses for each province. From Alberta you need English 30-1, Biology 30 and Mathematics 30-1 or 31, plus two more 30 or 31 level courses. From British Columbia you need English Studies 12, Anatomy and Physiology 12 and Pre-Calculus 12 or Calculus 12, plus one more academic Grade 12 course.
CEGEP students need at least 12 pre-university academic subjects. For Kinesiology those include two English courses, two in Calculus or Linear Algebra, one Biology course and one more in Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

Concurrent Education/Kinesiology
If you want to teach, Queen's offers Concurrent Education/Kinesiology (QKF) as a separate admission choice. The Grade 12 courses are the same as for QK, but last September's minimum to be considered was the low 90s rather than the mid 80s.
High school applicants to Concurrent Education don't complete a supplementary application. Queen's fees page notes that Concurrent Education students pay an extra $30 in ancillary fees.

What first year covers
First year introduces human physiology, biomechanics, sport sociology, psychology and health studies. The required courses are Social Determinants of Health (HLTH 101), Introduction to Human Physiology (KNPE 125), Introductory Biomechanics (KNPE 153), Socio-Cultural Dimensions of Sport and Physical Activity (KNPE 167) and Principles of Psychology (PSYC 100).
You also take 12.0 units of electives, most often in the natural and physical sciences. The 2026-27 calendar sets the Kinesiology Specialization at 78.0 of the degree's 120.0 units. Second year adds exercise physiology, motor learning and sport psychology, and upper years include Functional Human Anatomy.

Practicums, mini-streams and internships
At the end of first-year winter term you can apply to the Athletic Therapy or Strength and Conditioning mini-streams, which give course credit for working with varsity athletes. Later you can apply to the Community Based Practicum (KNPE 300) and the Research Skills Development Practicum (KNPE 352).
Queen's doesn't list a co-op option for Kinesiology. Its work program is the Queen's Undergraduate Internship Program (QUIP): a paid, full-time internship of 12 to 16 months, usually after third year. Arts and Science Honours students can join after second or third year.
You can add a Certificate in Disability and Physical Activity, and the School suggests applying in January for a third-year exchange.

After graduation
The School points third- and fourth-year students toward graduate school, sports medicine and other health careers. It suggests researching the education each career needs early, and preparing for tests such as the GRE or MCAT if you'll need them.
Fourth year includes research-based courses that can lead to graduate school. The School runs an annual mini-career fair, a KIN Mentor program that connects you with alumni, and it encourages student membership in the Ontario Kinesiology Association.

Tuition and scholarships
Queen's 2026-27 fees for Arts and Science degrees, which include Kinesiology, are $7,771.11 for Ontario students, $9,329.31 for other Canadians and $47,324.31 for international students. Kinesiology students pay an extra $27 Faculty Society Fee.
Every applicant is considered automatically for a $7,000 Principal's Scholarship, given to the top 3% of each program's admission average. The larger Major Admission Awards, worth $40,000 to $72,000 depending on the program, need an application by December 8, 2026. Queen's says you need a cumulative average of 90% or more to be competitive for them.

For parents
Calculus and Vectors became a Kinesiology prerequisite for Fall 2026 entry. If your child dropped Grade 12 math, they won't meet the requirement for QK.
There's no essay or interview, so admission rests on grades. If your child wants to teach physical education, Concurrent Education/Kinesiology is a separate choice with a low 90s minimum last year.
