York University Meal Plan: 2026-27 Dining Plans Explained

If you live in a traditional-style York residence room, or a hybrid room at Keele, you must buy a dining plan. For 2026-27 the three required plans cost $6,450, $7,180 and $7,930. Each gives the same $4,600 in Meal Plan dollars and differs only in Meal Plan Plus dollars. It works as a declining balance on your YU-card, not unlimited meals, and York says the Entry plan isn't designed for three meals a day every day.

The four 2026-27 plans side by side

Every plan includes a non-refundable fee that goes toward dining facilities and equipment. York's pages call it the Operation Enhancement Fee in some places and the Capital Enhancement Fee in others. The amount is the same either way. The weekly figures are York's own averages over a 32-week term.

Who has to buy a plan

A dining plan is part of the residence agreement for every student assigned a traditional-style room. On the Keele campus that means traditional rooms in Founders, Stong, Tatham Hall, Vanier, Winters and Bethune, plus the hybrid rooms in Winters. You choose Entry, Standard or Premium.

Suite residents with kitchens, in Calumet, Pond and Bethune's suites, can buy any plan but don't have to. Students living off campus can add the Convenience plan by emailing yucard@yorku.ca or visiting the YU-card Office in the William Small Centre, room 222.

Glendon has one exception. In G House in Hilliard Residence, the Convenience plan is the minimum requirement.

Meal Plan dollars vs Meal Plan Plus dollars

Your plan is split into two accounts on your YU-card. Meal Plan dollars only work at locations run by York Food Services. Meal Plan Plus dollars work there too, plus at partner vendors such as those in York Lanes, the Quad, the Student Centres and Schulich. For example, Meal Plan dollars work in Central Square but not in York Lanes, while Meal Plan Plus dollars work in both.

Eligible prepared food bought with either account is exempt from GST/HST. Pre-packaged items such as chips, chocolate bars and bottled drinks don't qualify, so you can't buy them with plan dollars.

The plan runs from August 30, 2026 to April 24, 2027. Unspent Meal Plan dollars expire on April 24. Leftover Meal Plan Plus dollars move to a Meal Plan Taxable account for a $50 fee, and you can keep using them while you're enrolled. None of it is refundable.

Dining halls and where the plan works

York's residence dining halls are in Winters College and Stong College on the Keele campus, and the Marché at Glendon. Each is a set of stations that you pay for from your balance, not an all-you-can-eat hall. York offers a $6.99 value meal at the Chef's Table stations in all three.

Food Services says chicken in its dining halls is always halal and that vegan and vegetarian options are offered. It lists kosher grab-and-go meals at Winters Dining Hall.

Choosing, changing or cancelling a plan

York suggests Standard or Premium if you'll eat most meals on campus. It says some students find the Entry plan enough, depending on how often they eat on campus or go home on weekends. You can check your balance anytime on the YU-card website or the eAccounts app.

York's 2026-27 dates list the first half of residence and meal plan fees as due September 10 and the second half January 10.

  • To change plans, email yucard@yorku.ca. Changes are free until November 8, 2026 for Fall-only residence agreements, or March 14, 2027 for full-year or Winter-only agreements. After that, each change costs $50.
  • If you move out early, you can ask to cancel by the same dates. You submit Housing's Early Withdrawal Form, get a prorated credit and pay a $50 fee.
  • Dining plan locations close over winter break, and Meal Plan dollars can't be used then. Plan your own meals if you stay in residence.
  • If you have a food allergy or a medical dietary need, book a consultation with York's Registered Dietitian before you finalize your room offer. York says it isn't an allergen-free facility and can't guarantee against cross-contamination.
