Getting to York's Keele Campus: Subway, GO, Bus and Parking

The simplest way to reach York's Keele campus is TTC Line 1. Two subway stations are on the campus itself: York University station and Pioneer Village station. If you drive, York has more than 7,700 parking spaces in 41 lots. Daily parking is paid through the HONK app, and 2026-27 permits are sold online.

TTC Line 1: two stations on campus

York University station and Pioneer Village station are both on the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension of Line 1 Yonge-University. Metrolinx says both stations give direct access to the university. It counted about 25,700 daily customers using them to reach York, based on 2018 figures.

York's own TTC page doesn't list bus routes. Check the TTC's trip planner for buses that serve campus before your first day.

GO Transit, PRESTO and student fares

Don't plan on a GO train to a York University GO station. Metrolinx announced in July 2021 that York University GO station would close to make way for Barrie line expansion. It told riders to transfer at Downsview Park GO to the subway, which reaches both campus stations. The GO website still carries a station page for York University GO, so check GO's own trip planner before you rely on it.

Students can get up to 22.5% off GO fares with a GO-approved student ID and a PRESTO card. The GO student ID is for undergraduates and graduate students taking a full course load, and last year's ID stays valid until October 31.

A physical PRESTO card costs a one-time $4. You add the post-secondary student concession at a PRESTO Customer Service Outlet. PRESTO in Apple Wallet also supports the post-secondary fare type.

York Region, Brampton and other buses

York's page for York Region Transit (YRT) and Viva says York has received information about a YRT program but has found constraints that need more review, with updates to follow. Until then, use YRT's own route and fare information.

York's Brampton Transit page describes Züm as limited-stop service that runs every 7.5 minutes at rush hour and every 15 minutes the rest of the day, at the same fare as Brampton Transit's regular routes. Check Brampton Transit for the current route to campus.

Parking: daily rates and 2026-27 permits

York's parking rates changed on May 1, 2026. Daily parking in garages and visitor lots is paid in the HONK Mobile app. If you'll drive most days, compare a 10-use Multi-Pack or a permit against paying daily.

  • York's enforcement officers are certified as City of Toronto and City of Markham bylaw officers and write municipal tickets.
  • Diamond Pool carpool parking needs at least two York community members who commute to the same campus on the same schedule.

Cycling, accessible rides and campus shuttles

Bike Share Toronto has stations on the Keele and Glendon campuses. If you ride your own bike, York has two secured bike enclosures, in the Arboretum Lane and Student Services garages. They're monitored by CCTV and cost $20 plus tax per year, from May 1 to April 30.

VanGO is York's accessible on-campus ride service for students with disabilities. It runs Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., between building entrances. You register through Student Accessibility Services at 109 Central Square.

York's free shuttles only link its own campuses: Keele to Glendon and Keele to Markham. You need a valid YU-card and a seat reservation, and they don't go to transit stations. The York campus guide covers them in more detail.
