What Windsor's concurrent program is

Windsor's Faculty of Education calls concurrent education an intensive five year program. You study full time for five years and graduate with two degrees. You become eligible to teach Primary Junior, junior kindergarten to Grade 6, or Intermediate Senior, Grades 7 to 12.

Your second degree depends on the pairing you choose. Most are a BA. Science is a BSc, Math is a BMath and Music Education is a BMus. Windsor's Future Students page labels most of these as general degrees, while Music Education is an honours degree.

Course requirements

Every pairing needs ENG4U. French Studies adds FSF4U with at least 75%. General Science adds Advanced Functions (MHF4U) and two of Chemistry, Biology or Physics. Mathematics adds MHF4U and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U).

Music Education needs ENG4U and a music audition. Use our course planner to make sure your Grade 12 timetable fits the pairing you want.

The average you need

The minimum is 75% for most pairings. General Science needs 80% with at least 70% in the science and math courses. Mathematics needs 80% with at least 70% in each 4U or 4M math course.

The mean averages tell you more. They range from 84% for Music Education to 90% for Mathematics. English is 88% and French Studies is 89%. Windsor does not publish an acceptance rate. Aim near the mean, and check your number with our Top 6 average calculator.

Supplementary application and audition

Windsor's concurrent pages list no required supplementary form or essay for high school students, except the music audition for Music Education. The apply page says you may send optional supporting material, but it must arrive by the application deadline to be considered.

If you send optional material, keep it short and focused on work with children or teaching. Grades still carry most of the weight.

Dates for Fall 2027

Windsor's dates are out of date. The concurrent apply page still shows January 15, 2026 as the deadline. Windsor's general deadline page still lists January 15, 2024. Neither has been updated for Fall 2027.

Plan to apply on OUAC by mid January 2027, the usual Ontario date, and confirm with Windsor. Windsor points applicants to OUAC's key dates page. See our Ontario deadlines page.

Psychology with Early Childhood Education

The Psychology pairing is the Primary Junior route. You earn a BA in Psychology, a BEd and an Early Childhood Education credential, with St. Clair College as the partner. Its mean average is 87%.

Windsor's Faculty of Education page also lists Modern Languages with Second Language Education as a Primary Junior option. That option does not appear on the Future Students admission list. If it interests you, ask Windsor whether it takes direct entry from high school for Fall 2027.

Intermediate Senior subjects

For Grades 7 to 12, Windsor lists ten pairings: English, Mathematics, History, General Science, French Studies, Music Education, Visual Arts, Drama, Communication, Media and Film, and Political Science.

Your pairing sets your main teaching subject. Pick the subject you most want to teach, then check how many jobs are posted in that subject in your region.

Practicum and co-op

Windsor says the concurrent program mixes classroom study with practical teaching experience. Its public pages do not list the number of practicum days or the year by year plan.

There is no co-op stream for concurrent education. Ask the Faculty of Education at educ@uwindsor.ca for the current practicum schedule.

Choosing a pairing by average

The pairings are not equally hard to get into. Mathematics has the highest mean at 90%, then French Studies at 89% and English at 88%. Psychology with ECE and General Science sit at 87%. Communication, Media and Film, History and Visual Arts are at 86%. Drama is 85% and Music Education is 84%.

Do not pick a pairing only because its mean is lower. You will teach that subject for years. If your marks are close to the mean in two subjects you like, you can list both Windsor pairings on OUAC. Political Science has no posted mean, so ask Windsor what last year's admitted students had.

The math and science grade rules

General Science and Mathematics have two tests. Your overall average must be at least 80%. You also need at least 70% in the listed science and math courses, or in each 4U or 4M math course you take for Mathematics.

This means one weak math mark can stop an application even with a high overall average. If you plan to repeat or upgrade a math course, finish it before final grades are sent in the summer.

Tuition for 2026-27

Windsor posts tuition through a fee estimator. It shows the approved fees for the 2026-2027 academic year, per term. Choose undergraduate, your program and your fee category to see the amount.

Your fees can change across the five years as you move between your first degree and the BEd. Books, housing and travel to placements are extra.

Entrance scholarships

For 2027-2028 entry, Windsor guarantees a minimum scholarship to Canadian students coming straight from high school. An 85% to 89.99% average earns $1,000. A 90% to 94.99% average earns $10,000 over 8 terms. A 95% or higher average earns $16,000 over 8 terms.

The renewable awards need an 85% average each year and full time study. Since most mean averages are above 85%, many admitted students will qualify for at least the first level.

For parents

The 75% minimum can give false comfort. The mean averages are 84% to 90%, so help your child aim there and apply to a few other teacher education programs too.

Windsor's deadline pages are out of date, so ask your child to confirm the date before January. Also look at the Windsor admissions overview.
