Course requirements

Windsor's program page lists four required Grade 12 courses: Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), Biology (SBI4U) and English (ENG4U). It strongly recommends Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) and recommends Physics (SPH4U).

Take MCV4U and SPH4U if you can. First year includes calculus (MATH-1720 or MATH-1760) and two physics courses, so those Grade 12 courses make the jump easier. Plan your timetable with our high school course planner.

The average you need

Windsor's current program page says the minimum is 70% on all attempted science and math courses. An older Windsor program page, still online, words it as 70% in science and math excluding Math of Data Management (MDM4U), with the average taken over six Grade 12 academic courses. Confirm with Windsor how MDM4U is treated if you take it.

That 70% is a floor, not a target. Windsor's Office of Institutional Analysis reports that new Ontario high school students in the Faculty of Science had an 86.5% admission average in fall 2025. Of those students, 8.0% came in at 95% or higher, 26.9% at 90% to under 95%, and 27.8% at 85% to under 90%. Windsor does not publish a separate Biomedical Sciences average. Work out your own number with our Top 6 average calculator.

No supplementary application

Windsor's program page lists no essay, interview, portfolio or Casper test for Biomedical Sciences. Your Grade 12 marks decide. Ontario students apply through OUAC, and Windsor gets your grades from your school through OUAC.

Dates for Fall 2027

Windsor tells current Ontario high school students to apply through OUAC by January 15 for the fall term. For Fall 2027 entry that means January 15, 2027. Windsor's entrance scholarships are automatic, based on your top six Grade 12 U or M courses, so you don't need a separate scholarship form.

What you study

The Honours Biomedical Sciences degree is 40 courses. The core includes BIOL-1101, BIOL-1111, BIOL-2111, BIOL-2040, BIOL-2071, BIOM-2131, BIOM-3500 and BIOM-3530, plus chemistry and biochemistry courses such as CHEM-2300, BIOC-2010, BIOC-3100 and BIOC-3130. You pick eight more Biomedical Sciences courses, four further science options, six science courses and four courses from any area.

Windsor's sample courses include Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics, Organic Chemistry of Biomolecules, Medical Microbiology and Embryology. The program is offered with or without a thesis.

Year by year

Windsor's calendar gives a recommended sequence of ten courses a year. First year covers cell biology, biological diversity, two general chemistry courses, calculus, statistics and two physics courses. Second year adds BIOL-2040, BIOL-2071, BIOL-2111 Genetics, BIOM-2131 Introductory Molecular Biology, CHEM-2300 and BIOC-2010.

Third year includes BIOM-3500, BIOM-3530, BIOC-3100 and BIOC-3130. Fourth year is ten courses of your choice within the degree rules, which is where the thesis fits. The calendar recommends taking at least one Arts course and one Social Science course among your four open courses.

If you are missing a course

If you can't fit both SCH4U and SBI4U, Windsor's older program page shows a broader Science program that asks for MHF4U, ENG4U and two of SCH4U, SBI4U and SPH4U, with 70% in science and math. Windsor says many students in that program move into a specialized honours program after first or second year.

Moving later depends on your university grades and course choices, so ask an academic adviser early. Students in other majors can also add a Minor in Biomedical Sciences, which includes BIOL-1101, BIOL-1111, BIOL-2111, BIOM-2131 and two upper year BIOM courses.

Research, not co-op

Windsor's co-op office lists co-op in business, computer science, engineering, kinesiology and physics. Biomedical Sciences is not on that list, and the program page does not mention co-op.

Research is the hands-on option. The thesis course BIOM-4904 is a 6 credit, two semester course. Only students with a major average of 70% and a cumulative average of 60% are considered, and a place is competitive and needs the department head's consent. Windsor says it has direct links with physicians and the clinical community in Windsor-Essex.

Tuition for 2026-27

Windsor posts tuition through a fee estimator, not a printed table. For a full time Science student paying the domestic Ontario rate, it shows 2026-2027 base tuition of $3,045.65 for the fall term. The fall estimate of $4,774.98 adds incidental and society fees, and it also adds a $485.00 co-op fee marked if applicable, which wouldn't apply to this program.

Our estimate, not a Windsor figure: two terms of base tuition at that rate is about $6,091 for the year, before incidental fees. Windsor suggests budgeting at least $1,000 a year for textbooks and learning materials. Students from outside Ontario and international students should run the estimator for their own fee category.

Entrance scholarships

For 2027-2028 entering students, Windsor guarantees a minimum award based on your top six Grade 12 U or M courses. An average of 85% to 89.99% earns $1,000. An average of 90% to 94.99% earns $10,000, paid as $1,250 over 8 terms. An average of 95% or higher earns $16,000, paid as $2,000 over 8 terms.

The two larger awards are renewable if you study full time and keep an 85% scholarship average.

How it compares at Windsor

Windsor runs three related programs. The Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences (Health Stream) program asks for a higher 75% in science and math, and you're in a lab within the first two weeks. Its sample courses include Human Anatomy, Cancer Undergraduate Research Education (CURE) and Pharmacology for Health Sciences. The Biomedical Sciences Interdisciplinary Health Sciences stream adds a concentration such as Health and Aging or Biostatistics.

For parents

This is a direct entry science degree with no essay or interview, so Grade 12 science and math marks matter most. Windsor lists professional school, such as medicine, pharmacy and dentistry, as a common next step. Those schools need strong university grades, so steady study habits in first year count.
