Programs and Pathways

Windsor programs, the border, and the automotive corridor

Windsor publishes 190 undergraduate programs across nine faculties, a downtown School of Creative Arts, and a 29:1 student-to-faculty ratio. What makes the catalogue distinctive is not its size but its location: named Automotive and Aerospace options inside Mechanical Engineering, a transportation research cluster built around a Stellantis partnership, and a Dual JD that puts students in classrooms on both sides of the Detroit River.

Engineering

Three departments — Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical, Automotive and Materials — deliver Civil, Electrical, Environmental, General, Industrial, Mechanical, Mechatronic Systems and Engineering Technology degrees. Mechanical carries named Aerospace, Automotive, Environmental and Materials options.

Selection: One 74% bar covers every stream, and there is no supplemental application. Aerospace and Automotive are options within Mechanical, so apply to Mechanical.

Odette School of Business

Bachelor of Commerce (Honours Business Administration) in co-op and non-co-op versions, with Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management and Management Science sub-disciplines, plus the joint Business Administration and Computer Science degree.

Selection: 73% general, 78% for co-op. Co-op is chosen on the OUAC form or applied for again in second year at a 65% cumulative and 70% major average.

Science and Forensic Science

The Faculty of Science runs Biological Sciences, Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Physics, Mathematics, Economics and the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research, plus an Honours Bachelor of Forensic Science.

Selection: Nearly every Science route adds a subject-specific average of 70% — or 75% for the Health and Biomedical stream — on top of the overall minimum.

Nursing

A collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing delivered jointly with St. Clair College and Lambton College, though Windsor states the Lambton site is no longer admitting new students.

Selection: 75% minimum with course-level floors of 70% in chemistry and biology and 65% in ENG4U, against a published mean of 85%. Confirm which site your offer is for.

Education

A five-year Concurrent route awarding a General BA or BSc plus the BEd, with Primary/Junior and Intermediate/Senior certification tracks. The consecutive BEd has no direct admission.

Selection: Concurrent admission is to first year only — 75% for BA streams, 80% for Science and Mathematics. Miss it and you complete a degree first.

Law and the Dual JD

Windsor Law offers the JD, the Canadian & American Dual JD with Detroit Mercy Law, combined MBA/JD and MSW/JD routes, an LLM, and a PhD in Argumentation Studies.

Selection: No direct admission from high school. The Dual JD applies through OLSAS by April 15 and awards two accredited degrees in three years.

School of Creative Arts (downtown)

Film Production, Music, Visual Arts, and Visual Arts and the Built Environment run from the Windsor Armouries and Windsor Hall downtown, opened in September 2015, alongside an MFA.

Selection: Acting and Music require auditions. BFA Visual Arts does not require an entry portfolio — the portfolio evaluation gates entry to Year 3.

Human Kinetics

Kinesiology and Health Studies (BSc) and Sport Management and Leadership (BSML), which Windsor calls one of the only direct entry Sport Management and Leadership programs in the country.

Selection: Two different prerequisite patterns: a science course for Kinesiology, a mathematics course for Sport Management. Co-op is applied for during Year 1.

Three degrees you cannot enter from high school

Windsor's Senate policy records No direct admission against the consecutive Bachelor of Education, the Juris Doctor, and the Bachelor of Engineering Technology. Social Work is second-entry too: you complete twenty courses including four Social Work courses, a statistics course, two Science courses and both Foundations of Academic Writing courses, then submit a supplemental application with a minimum 70% average in Social Work courses. An interview may be required, entry is for the next Fall term only, and enrolment is limited. High-school applicants enter Pre-Social Work, which is not the same thing as being admitted to the professional years.

Automotive research

30 years, 800+ co-ops

The Stellantis Canada–UWindsor Automotive Research and Development Centre opened in 1996 and now employs about 800 people, with related Canadian R&D spending above $2 billion.

Dual JD

Two degrees in three years

Founded in 1983 with Detroit Mercy Law. Windsor calls it the only program of its kind in North America. Accredited by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada and the ABA.

Forensic Science

Three specializations

Forensic human biology, forensic chemistry, and ecology of death, plus a Combined BA in Forensics and a 2+2 route for Police Foundations graduates.

Aerospace and Automotive are options, not degrees

This trips up a lot of applicants. Windsor publishes Mechanical Engineering with named Aerospace, Automotive, Environmental and Materials options — so you apply to Mechanical Engineering at the 74% minimum and select the option later. There is no standalone Aerospace Engineering degree on any Windsor page. The research infrastructure behind those options is real, though: the Faculty of Engineering publishes a Centre for Automotive Research and Education, a Centre for Hybrid Automotive Research and Green Energy, a SHIELD Automotive Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence, a Clean Powertrain Lab, and a Crashworthiness, Impact and Materials Deformation research lab, housed in the $110-million Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation.

Current structure

Nine faculties

Confirmed

Windsor runs Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; the Odette School of Business; Education; Engineering; Human Kinetics; Law; Nursing; Science; and Graduate Studies. It is also home to the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry – Windsor Campus. Windsor publishes 190 undergraduate programs and 70 graduate programs.

The international page instead says Over 200 programs. Treat 190 undergraduate plus 70 graduate as the figures Windsor states most precisely.

The automotive research centre is not a brochure line

Confirmed

The Stellantis Canada–UWindsor Automotive Research and Development Centre opened in 1996 with a $30 million investment as a first-of-its-kind partnership between the automotive industry and academia. At its thirtieth-anniversary event on August 4, 2026, Windsor reported more than 800 engineering co-op placements through the centre, about 800 people currently employed there, and Canadian research and development spending related to the centre grown to more than $2 billion. The adjoining North America Battery Technology Centre spans more than 8,000 square metres with 35 climatic test cells and 11 reach-in test cells.

Current research inventory

Where the automotive specialisation actually lives

Confirmed

Windsor's Faculty of Engineering publishes a named transportation research cluster: the Centre for Automotive Research and Education, the Centre for Hybrid Automotive Research and Green Energy (CHARGE), the SHIELD Automotive Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence, the Clean Combustion Engine Lab, the Clean Powertrain Lab, the Noise, Vibration and Harshness Sound Quality Research Group, the Turbomachinery and Unsteady Flows Research Lab, and the ARDC. The Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation is described as a $110-million facility.

These are research centres, not undergraduate admission streams. They matter for co-op placements, fourth-year projects, and graduate study, not for your OUAC choice.

Forensic Science is a real degree, with three specializations

Confirmed

Windsor offers an Honours Bachelor of Forensic Science with specializations in forensic human biology, forensic chemistry, and ecology of death, plus a Combined BA in Forensics that pairs forensics with a second field such as criminology, psychology or sociology. It also runs a 2+2 Applied Forensic Science Stream for Ontario Police Foundations college graduates with a 73% or better average, granting credit for up to 20 courses and adding roughly two further years.

No first-party page reviewed claims this is the first or only forensic science degree in Canada, so do not repeat that claim.

Senate policy, amended September 1, 2021

Three degrees have no direct admission from high school

Confirmed

The Senate policy states No direct admission for the consecutive Bachelor of Education, the Juris Doctor, and the Bachelor of Engineering Technology. Social Work is second-entry too: students complete twenty courses including four Social Work courses, a statistics course, two Science courses, eleven Arts/Languages/Social Sciences courses and both Foundations of Academic Writing courses, then submit a supplemental application to the Office of the Registrar with a minimum average of 70% in Social Work courses; an interview may be required and entry is for the next Fall term only.

Windsor's high-school Social Work admission is to Pre-Social Work. The professional years are a separate, competitive, limited-enrolment application.

The Canadian & American Dual JD

Confirmed

Windsor states that the Canadian & American Juris Doctor program, founded in 1983, is a collaboration between Windsor Law and Detroit Mercy Law, and that it is the only program of its kind in North America that allows graduates to obtain two law degrees in three years. It is accredited by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada and the American Bar Association, students attend classes at both schools — located mere kilometres from one another — and graduates receive both a Canadian and American JD, positioning them to write bar examinations in Canada and the US. The OLSAS deadline is April 15.

This is a graduate-entry law program, not a high-school route. It matters to a Grade 12 applicant only as a reason to build an undergraduate degree at Windsor with the Dual JD in mind.
