Course requirements

Ontario students need English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), and either Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Data Management (MDM4U). Carleton recommends Calculus and Vectors. All required courses must be at the 4U level, with no grade below 60%.

You need an Ontario diploma with six Grade 12 U or M courses. Grade 12 co-op credits don't count toward those six. Plan your courses with our course planner.

The 80% cut-off

Carleton lists a cut-off range of 80% for the BCom. It applies to both your overall average and your required course average. Carleton sets the average each year, program by program. All programs have limited spots, and admission is not guaranteed.

Carleton does not publish an acceptance rate for the BCom. Most offers are conditional. If your final grades fall below the required average, Carleton can change or withdraw your offer. Work out where you stand with our Top 6 average calculator.

Supplementary application

Commerce is not on Carleton's list of programs with additional admission requirements. You don't write an essay, send a portfolio or do an interview. Your grades decide your file.

Some Carleton programs have earlier March deadlines for extra materials. Those do not apply to the BCom. Watch Carleton360 after you apply in case Admissions asks for documents.

What you study

The BCom is a four year honours degree of 20.0 credits. First year includes Financial Accounting, Foundations of Information Systems, Introduction to Business, micro and macroeconomics and Mathematics for Business.

You don't pick a concentration until the end of second year. There are nine: Accounting, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Information Systems, International Business, Management, Marketing and Supply Chain Management. You can also add streams, a minor or an exchange. Sprott is accredited by AACSB International.

Staying in the honours BCom

Carleton grades on a 12 point scale. To graduate with an honours BCom and a concentration, you need an overall CGPA of 5.00, plus a major CGPA and a concentration CGPA of 6.50 each. If your major CGPA is 6.50 but your concentration CGPA is lower, you still graduate with honours, just without the concentration on your degree.

If your major CGPA ends up at 5.00, you graduate with a BCom that has no honours and no concentration. You may add a second concentration once you have 6.0 credits and an overall CGPA of 8.0. Keep an eye on your marks from first year, because they also decide co-op.

BCom, BAcc or BIB

Sprott runs three separate bachelor's degrees. The BCom is the broad one. The Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc) and the Bachelor of International Business (BIB) each have their own admission page and their own fees. In 2026-27 the first year BAcc is $11,395.56 and the first year BIB is $12,579.46 for Ontario students.

The BIB adds a language and a required year abroad. Before you leave, you need a major CGPA of at least 6.50 and at least 9.0 credits. A BAcc or BIB student who misses the major CGPA can transfer into the BCom. If you are not sure which fits, the BCom with an Accounting or International Business concentration is the flexible choice.

Careers and the Employability Passport

Every BCom student completes Sprott's Employability Passport, a four year career program. Students also get a business careers team, a private job portal, workshops and one to one advising.

Sprott says 92% of BCom graduates were employed within one year, based on a survey of 2021 to 2024 graduates. Students can join the Sprott Student Consulting Group, the Student Investment Fund, the Social Impact Hub or the Innovation Hub.

Co-op

Co-op is optional. You can ask for it when you apply or after you start. To enter, you need 5.0 credits, an overall CGPA of at least 6.50 and a major CGPA of at least 8.00 on Carleton's 12 point scale. You keep those marks for the rest of the degree. You also take COOP 1000, a zero credit online course.

You need at least three work terms for the co-op designation. Carleton strongly recommends finishing your second year business courses first. The co-op fee is $540.64 for each work term.

Each concentration has its own work and study pattern. In the calendar pattern for Accounting, work terms fall in the summer after second year and in parts of third and fourth year, and the degree runs into a fall study term in year five. If you start at Carleton without co-op, you apply later through mySuccess. Carleton posts the dates each term.

Tuition for 2026-27

Carleton's Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 fees for Ontario students put the first year BCom at $11,920.48. That includes compulsory fees and the U-Pass. Years two to four are listed at $11,910.02.

The BCom costs more than a Bachelor of Arts at $7,624.02. Students from outside Ontario and international students pay different rates, posted on separate Carleton pages.

Scholarships

If you are admitted with 85% or more, you are considered for a renewable entrance scholarship. There is no form. It is $1,000 a year at 85% to 89.9%, $2,000 at 90% to 94.9% and $3,000 at 95% or more. You keep it with an annual GPA of 10.0, which is A minus.

Carleton must have your full application and grades by June 15. The scholarship uses the average at the time of your offer. It is not reassessed on final grades.

For parents

The BCom is one of the more open business programs in Ontario, with no supplement and an 80% cut-off. But a cut-off is a floor, not a promise, and the number can change each year.

Data Management is accepted, which helps students who skipped Calculus. Compare with our uOttawa Commerce page, the Carleton admissions overview and the Carleton guide.
