What to do before registration opens

Carleton's new student checklist puts these steps first. Doing them early means a hold or a missing login won't block you when your timeticket opens.

  • Find your student number: nine digits beginning with 100 or 101, in your admission package.
  • Set up your MyCarletonOne account. It gives you Carleton email and IT services.
  • Domestic students should submit a Social Insurance Number in Carleton Central for tax slips. International students can skip this.
  • Read your program's first-year course selection guide. Each degree has its own list of first-year courses.
  • Check Step 1 in Carleton Central for your timeticket, program details and any holds.

The four registration steps in Carleton Central

Carleton says to complete these steps in order. Its registration site has how-to videos for each one.

The four registration steps in Carleton Central
StepWhat you do
1. Registration statusConfirm your timeticket, program information and holds before your timeticket begins
2. Plan and registerBuild draft timetables in the course worksheet, then add courses by CRN when your timeticket opens
3. View your timetableCheck the schedule for everything you registered in
4. View your accountSee your fee balance and set up payment
  • Register for both fall and winter as soon as your timeticket opens. Classes fill quickly.
  • Architecture, Industrial Design, Information Technology and Engineering students have block registration. Many or all first-year courses are preselected; just submit them. Don't delete or swap a preselected CRN without asking your department.
  • If a section is full, check for a waitlist. When a spot opens, the first student gets an email and has 24 hours to register. Waitlists close at midnight two days before the term starts.

Using Brightspace

D2L Brightspace is Carleton's online learning space. Instructors use it for course materials, discussions, assignments, quizzes and grades. Go to brightspace.carleton.ca and sign in with your MC1 username and password.

If you're signed in but can't see a course, your instructor may not have made it active yet, or the course hasn't started. Brightspace support is open 24 hours a day, every day, through the Help menu's Brightspace Service Desk. For login problems, contact Carleton's ITS Service Desk.

Where to get registration help

The Student Registration Assistance team is made up of Carleton students who help with first-year course choices, conflict-free timetables and Carleton Central during peak registration periods. The Registrar's Office is at 300 Tory Building and answers 613-520-3500 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Email from your Carleton account and include your student number.

After you register, apply online for your Campus Card. It's your student ID, U-Pass, library card and athletics pass.
