Course requirements
Queen's asks Ontario students for an OSSD (the Ontario Secondary School Diploma) and six 4U or 4M courses. For Commerce (QC), three of them are set: English (ENG4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) and one more 4U math, such as Advanced Functions (MHF4U) or Data Management (MDM4U). You need at least 80% in each of these three.
Your other three courses can be 4U or 4M, but no more than two 4M courses from the same subject. Students in francophone schools may use EAE4U or FRA4U in place of ENG4U. Plan your courses with our course planner.
The 90+ average
Queen's publishes the lowest average it considered for each program last September. For Smith Commerce it was 90+. Queen's says these averages change each year and could be higher than what it shows. The average is based on your prerequisite courses.
Grades alone don't decide it. Queen's admits Commerce students on grades and the supplement, and gives preference to the strongest overall applicants. Queen's doesn't publish a Commerce acceptance rate. Work out your average with our Top 6 average calculator.

The Commerce Supplementary Application
Every Commerce applicant must do the supplement. It runs on a platform called Kira Talent. Queen's emails you an invite after you get your acknowledgement email, which can take up to eight business days. The deadline is February 15, 2027, and Queen's won't accept late submissions.
Queen's FAQ for the 2026 intake says you get one written and one video answer. You have 10 minutes for the written answer, with a 335-word limit. For the video you get 2 minutes to prepare and 2 minutes to answer. Practice questions are part of check-in and aren't marked. Queen's says it will post 2027 details by November 1, 2026, so check again then.
Smith says it looks for strong grades, skill with both numbers and words, self-awareness and potential for leadership and teamwork.

Tuition
Queen's 2026-27 fee table lists Commerce tuition of $16,613.19 in Years 1 and 2 (33 units) and $15,102.90 in Years 3 and 4 (30 units) for Ontario students. With the Student Assistance Levy and ancillary fees, Years 1 and 2 total $18,250.15 for Ontario students.

Major Admission Awards
Queen's major admission awards use one application, the Major Admission Award (MAA) application in SOLUS. The deadline is December 8, 2026. You can only reach SOLUS after you apply to Queen's, and the login takes 4 to 6 business days. That is why Queen's says to apply on OUAC by November 20, 2026.
The awards are for Canadian citizens, permanent residents and Protected Persons. Queen's looks for strong grades, creative thinking, school or community involvement and leadership. Some awards also weigh financial need. Queen's expects a cumulative average of 90% or higher through high school to be competitive.
The Chancellor's Scholarship is worth $48,000 over four years, with 50 available. It needs a nomination from your high school. Most major awards renew if you keep a 3.5 GPA in a full course load. Recipients can't also hold other merit scholarships. Results show in SOLUS in late February.

How Queen's reviews your grades
Queen's reviews applications on a rolling basis. It can make a conditional offer using Grade 11 marks if Grade 12 marks are not ready yet, but only if you are registered in all required Grade 12 courses. Make sure your school sends OUAC all your courses for the full year.
Queen's doesn't make alternate offers. If you want another Queen's program as a backup, you must apply to it too. You can apply to up to three programs.

After you get an offer
Ontario high school students reply by June 1, 2027. The residence application and deposit are also due June 1 at 4 p.m. Eastern time. Applicants outside Ontario high schools usually reply by May 1, 2027, so check your offer letter.
Ontario students must have final grades and their OSSD confirmed by July 15, 2027. Other students send final transcripts by August 1, 2027.

Admission pathways and QBridge
Queen's has admission pathways for first-generation and Indigenous students. They offer help with the application, academic advising and financial planning. You still have to meet all admission requirements.
QBridge is an English language pathway. It is for students whose grades are competitive but who don't yet meet Queen's English test standard.

For parents
Commerce is one of Queen's most competitive programs. Your child needs 80% or more in English and two 4U maths, an average near the top of the class, and a strong timed supplement.
Because the supplement is timed, practice matters. It helps to pair Queen's with other business programs and to talk the plan through with an adviser.
