The 85% estimate
UVic lists an estimated admission average of minimum 85%, based on the required Grade 12 courses. UVic says this is an estimate from recent admission cycles, and the real average may be higher because of competition and limited space. Meeting the minimums does not guarantee admission. UVic does not publish a Commerce acceptance rate.

Expanded Qualifications
Grades are the main factor, but UVic admits a limited number of Canadian high school graduates through its Expanded Qualifications category. It is for students with sustained community engagement or leadership who worry their grades may not be enough. You must be graduating from a Canadian high school and still meet the program's minimum academic requirements.
You only need to submit Expanded Qualifications documents if you are concerned about your grades. There is no required essay or supplementary form for regular Commerce admission.

First year and the year 2 cohort
UVic admits high school students into year 1 of the BCom. In year 1 you take COM 100 Understanding World-Class Organizations, COM 120 Organizational Behaviour, ECON 103 Microeconomics and STAT 252 Statistics for Business. STAT 252 needs MATH 151, which you take in the fall of year 1. You also take an academic writing course and 4 to 6 electives.
To move into year 2 you must meet the progression conditions: an average of 4.5 out of 9.0 (B or B minus) on the required courses. In the spring term of year 2 you join a cohort of 50 to 60 students. UVic's program page says 60. Students with a GPA below 3.0 in any session may be required to withdraw.

Specializations and exchange
In year 4 you choose one of four specializations: entrepreneurship and innovation; service design, marketing and management; financial management (accounting or finance stream); or artificial intelligence and technology management. Students in the accounting stream follow a different course order.
Gustavson has 80+ exchange partners in 40+ countries. Exchange is open after you finish the cohort terms with a GPA of at least 4.0. Every BCom student takes part in at least one case competition.

Co-op and work terms
UVic's co-op page lists Commerce as needing one work experience term. You can add a second, or a third to graduate with the co-op designation. The program page recommends two paid work terms, and Gustavson says most BCom students complete two. A third term gives you up to a full year of work experience.
These pages describe the same rules from different angles: one term is required, two is typical. If the number matters for your plans, confirm with Gustavson. Students also get a business mentor, one-on-one coaching and a career development course.

Fall 2027 dates
The deadline for most UVic degree programs, including Commerce, is January 31 for September entry. High school students who send grades by early December can be considered for early admission and may hear within a few weeks.
If you do not qualify early, UVic will ask for updated grades. Ontario and other students outside BC self-report Grade 12 grades for scholarships between February 15 and March 15. See other schools on our Canadian university deadlines page.

Tuition for 2026-27
UVic's tuition estimator, using rates in effect May 1, 2026, lists Business tuition at $3,272 a term, or $6,544 for two terms, for Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Year 1 international students pay $18,788 a term, or $37,576 for two terms, rising each year to $47,674 in year 4.
Ancillary fees, housing, food and books are extra. UVic says the estimate is a guide only. Year 2 international tuition is $19,915 a term and year 3 is $22,488 a term, so international families should plan for the rise each year rather than the year 1 figure alone.

Scholarships
UVic gives automatic entrance scholarships based on your admission average. For 2027-28, Canadian citizens and permanent residents with 90% or more (or 32 IB points) receive a one-time $1,500 to $5,000. International students with an A minus or equal can receive a one-time $15,000.
Specific criteria scholarships need a separate online application between February 15 and April 30, 2027, so mark that window too.

For parents
UVic Commerce admits on grades. Your child needs English and Advanced Functions at 73% or more and about 85% overall. Getting in is only step one: first-year marks must stay at B or B minus on the required courses to reach the year 2 cohort.
Budget about $6,544 in 2026-27 domestic tuition plus fees and residence, and expect at least one paid work term. Compare other business schools on our UBC Sauder and Queen's Commerce pages and read our University of Victoria guide.
