uOttawa uoZone, Brightspace and First-Year Course Enrolment

uoZone is uOttawa's student portal. You enrol in courses through its Enrol application, see fees in Student Center and apply for residence in its Housing Portal. Brightspace is the separate Virtual Campus where your course materials and assessments live. For 2026-27, first-year enrolment opened May 19, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. To get in on day one, you had to accept your offer at least three working days earlier.

The 2026-27 enrolment and term timeline

uOttawa staggers enrolment by year of study. These are the 2026-27 dates for direct-entry faculties: Arts, Engineering, Health Sciences, Science, Social Sciences and Telfer. The Fall 2027 dates aren't published yet, so use this as a guide to the shape of the year.

International students must also pay the admission deposit before they can enrol. A payment from a bank outside Canada can take up to 14 days to reach uOttawa.

Building a first-year timetable

A full-time student usually takes five courses in fall and five in winter. You need at least 12 units a term, normally four courses, to count as full time. A sixth course needs your faculty's permission, or a seventh in Engineering. Enrol for fall and winter at the same time.

Your courses fall into three groups: compulsory, optional and electives. Put any make-up courses from your offer into your timetable first. Then add compulsory courses, and electives last. Classes can start at 8:30 a.m., end as late as 10 p.m. and some run on Saturdays. The timetable search opens at least a week before enrolment, so draft several versions.

  • Courses fill first come, first served. Enrol as soon as your window opens.
  • If every section is full, join the wait list. You're enrolled automatically when a seat opens, if seats are reserved for your program.
  • The Enrol app won't let you add classes whose times overlap.
  • Stopping attending isn't the same as withdrawing. If you don't withdraw by the deadline, you get a failing grade.

Bilingual courses and the French Immersion Stream

uOttawa offers programs in English and in French. Under Academic Regulation A-1, you can write assignments and answer exam questions in either official language, whatever language the course is taught in. Language courses and programs where language is a requirement are the exceptions. Oral presentations to the class stay in the course's language.

The French Immersion Stream is for students who studied French as a second language in high school. It runs in more than 80 programs across the six direct-entry faculties, and you take about one-third of your courses in French. To apply, choose the English version of your program on OUAC and tick the French immersion option. After your offer, prove your French with uOttawa's Immersion Entry Test or a B2 result on DELF, TEF études or TCF.

If you don't pass the entry test, the immersion option is removed but your admission stays. You can retake the test after two months. If you're required to take a French as a second language course, it counts as your sixth course that term. Eligible immersion students can also mark courses for Satisfactory/Not satisfactory grading; the fall 2026 deadline was November 20.

Where to get help

Regional mentors answer questions from new students, including course choices, and you can book a one-on-one meeting. Immersion students can also talk to immersion mentors, who are upper-year Immersion and Extended French students. For login or MFA problems, the IT help desk is in Morisset Hall, room 06, and in Roger Guindon Hall, room 3028. You'll need your student number.
