Course requirements from Ontario
UBC's requirements tool for Kinesiology lists two Grade 12 courses from Ontario. You need ENG4U. You also need one of Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) or Physics (SPH4U). That is a short list compared with many Ontario kinesiology programs.
UBC also asks that you graduate from high school with at least 70% in Grade 11 or Grade 12 English. It recommends six Grade 12 courses but does not require them. UBC looks at your grades in all academic Grade 11 and 12 courses and pays close attention to courses linked to the degree. So strong science marks still help, even if only one is required. Plan your courses with our course planner.

Course requirements from British Columbia
From BC, the tool lists English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12. You also need one of Pre-Calculus 12, Anatomy and Physiology 12 (Biology 12), Chemistry 12 or Physics 12. There are no Grade 11 course requirements for this degree.
The same 70% English rule applies. UBC suggests extra courses in language arts, math and computation, sciences and social studies in Grade 11 and 12.

What average do you need?
UBC does not post a recommended grade range for Kinesiology. The tool leaves that field blank for both Ontario and BC. We won't guess a number. If someone quotes a cut-off, ask where it came from.
UBC uses broad-based admission for high school students. The School of Kinesiology says it looks at grades in key courses, how hard your program is, what you have done in and out of school, and other signs you fit the program. Ontario students can still work out a Top 6 with our Top 6 average calculator. For what UBC does publish across the school, see our UBC acceptance rate page.

The personal profile
High school students applying to almost any UBC degree, including Kinesiology, must write a personal profile. Each answer is a short essay of 500 to 2,100 characters, about 50 to 500 words. Watch the character limit. Text past the limit gets cut off.
Questions ask who you are, what matters to you, and up to five activities or achievements. You then say more about one or two of them. Trained readers score the profile on four things: engagement and achievement, leadership, depth of thought, and how well you write in your own voice.
You list two referees. If you are in high school, one must be a school official, such as a counsellor or teacher. Neither can be a friend, family member or paid agent. UBC contacts referees after offers go out.

Write it in your own words
UBC asks if your profile truly reflects your own words. It tells you to be true to who you are, not to write what you think it wants to hear. Start early and give yourself time to revise.
UBC also asks you to reflect, not just list. Any experience counts, from a sports team to caring for a younger sibling. Explain what you learned.

First year and the three options
The BKin is a 120-credit degree. In first year you take core courses: Human Anatomy (KIN 110), Health and Exercise Management (KIN 120), two physiology courses (KIN 131 and 132), Sports and Exercise Psychology (KIN 150) and Leisure and Sport in Society (KIN 160). You also take WRDS 150, a writing and research course, and three electives. KIN 140 is a suggested elective.
You move to Year 2 after 24 credits. When Year 2 registration opens, you choose one of three options. Neuromechanical and Physiological Sciences focuses on anatomy and how the body controls movement. Social and Behavioural Sciences looks at sport, activity and health in society. Multidisciplinary Science lets you mix themes. In Years 3 and 4 you need at least 48 upper-level credits, with 21 in your option.
UBC's program pages list each option as its own program. You apply to Kinesiology and pick the option later.

Co-op and hands-on learning
UBC's program page lists co-op as No for Kinesiology. There is also no honours option. Instead, upper-level electives can include advanced seminars, Work-Integrated Learning, directed studies (KIN 490) and research (KIN 492).
The School of Kinesiology has 13 research labs, including labs for integrative physiology and human neurophysiology. The program is accredited by CCUPEKA, the national council for kinesiology programs.

Tuition for 2026-27
UBC's approved 2026-27 tuition for Kinesiology is $206.69 per credit for Canadian students. A first-year load of 30 credits is $6,200.70. International students pay $1,769.40 per credit, or $53,082.00 for 30 credits. These are tuition only, before student fees, books and housing.
Domestic fees have gone up about 2% a year lately. International students who start in 2026-27 have a cap of 3% a year. Fall 2027 fees are not set yet. Ontario students can use OSAP at UBC. See our OSAP guide.

Scholarships
To be considered for UBC's biggest entrance awards, apply by December 1, 2026 and say yes in the awards section. The Presidential Scholars Award gives a one-time award of about $5,000, or renewable awards up to $80,000 at Vancouver over four years. UBC rates your first-choice degree using your grades and personal profile.
Once you are in the program, the School of Kinesiology gives its own awards. Most are for second, third or fourth year students and are based on grades, leadership and service. There is also an award for third or fourth year Indigenous students.

Residence
Many first-year students qualify for the First Year Guarantee for a room in Winter Session. Most are placed in Orchard Commons, Place Vanier or Totem Park. These come with an All Access Dining Plan.
UBC says a typical first-year room and meal plan costs about $12,000 to $14,500 for eight months. The full range is about $10,300 to just over $15,000. Apply for residence when you apply to UBC, and no later than May 1, to keep the guarantee.

For parents
UBC is far from Ontario, and it doesn't post a grade cut-off for this degree. That makes it harder to judge chances. Pair UBC with a few Ontario kinesiology programs that post clear ranges.
Help with dates, not with writing. Mark December 1 if your child wants award review. Mark January 15 for the application, and May 1 for residence. Budget for flights and a full residence plan on top of tuition.
