BKin, not BA or BSc

Laurier's program page now lists Kinesiology as a Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) in the Faculty of Science. Older guides and lists may still call it Kinesiology and Physical Education, as a BA or BSc. Use the current page and pick Kinesiology from the Laurier Waterloo list on OUAC. The OUAC code is UKP.

It is a full-time, four-year program that starts in September. Classes are mostly in person on the Waterloo campus.

Ontario course requirements

You need 4U English (ENG4U) at 60%, 4U Biology (SBI4U) at 70%, and one math at 60%. The math can be Grade 11 Functions (MCF3M), Grade 11 Functions and Relations (MCR3U), or any 4U math. That is less math than many Kinesiology programs ask for.

Laurier recommends 4U Exercise Science. If you want science electives at Laurier, it suggests Chemistry or Physics too. Neither is required. Plan your Grade 11 and 12 courses with our course planner.

Laurier bases admission on your top six 4U and 4M courses. To keep your offer, you must earn your OSSD and meet every condition on your offer letter.

The low 80s average and how Laurier counts it

Laurier publishes an average admission range of low 80s for Kinesiology. That is a range, not a promise. Laurier says meeting the average does not guarantee admission. It also calls the program competitive for transfer students.

Science programs at Laurier include required courses in the average. For Kinesiology, Biology and English are counted. If you repeat a required course, Laurier uses a weighted average of your first and latest tries. Laurier does not round averages up. Work out your number with our Top 6 average calculator.

Laurier does not publish an acceptance rate for this program. See our Laurier acceptance rate page for what the school does share.

No supplementary application, but an optional form

Kinesiology has no required supplementary application, essay, Casper test or interview. Your grades are the main factor.

Laurier offers an optional Applicant Background Summary (ABS) form. You can share activities and achievements that may be used for admission. Laurier calls it optional but highly recommended. You fill it in once in the applicant portal, even if you apply to more than one Laurier program.

If something hurt your grades, you can send a separate personal statement for special cases or extenuating circumstances. Don't put that on the ABS form. Laurier suggests sending both within two weeks of applying. The Fall deadline for both is April 25.

Applying from outside Ontario

Students from other provinces use Laurier's course equivalents chart. In Alberta, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, English is English Language Arts 30-1, Biology is Biology 30, and Math 20-1 counts as the Grade 11 math for Kinesiology. Math 30-1 or Math 31 also work.

In British Columbia and Yukon, English is English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12. Biology is Anatomy and Physiology 12. Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Math 11 counts as the Grade 11 math for Kinesiology. The chart covers the other provinces too.

Applicants who are not in an Ontario high school apply by April 1, 2027.

First-year courses and program structure

First year has four core Kinesiology courses: KP100 Fundamental Movement Skills and Physical Literacy, KP161 Fundamentals of Motor Learning and Control, KP181 Fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Psychology, and KP131 Fundamentals of a Physically Active and Healthy Lifestyle. You also take 3.0 elective credits, which can include Psychology and Biology.

After second year you stay in Foundational Kinesiology or choose Integrative Human Movement Science or Applied Sport and Physical Activity. Upper-year electives include athletic injuries, exercise nutrition, biomechanics and aging. The anatomy course uses synthetic cadavers.

You can add a Management Minor or a Teaching Minor by choosing it as a program enhancement on OUAC. The Teaching Minor is a direct-entry path to Laurier's Bachelor of Education.

Co-op

Kinesiology offers co-op through Science Co-op. You don't apply for co-op on OUAC. You apply once you are at Laurier, and you may get an admission interview early in second year. Co-op work terms are paid.

Two Laurier pages describe this a little differently. The Kinesiology page says you can apply in first year or at the end of first year, with work terms of 12 to 16 weeks. The Science Co-op page says you apply after first year and do two four-month work terms, in the spring of second and third year. Please confirm the timing with Laurier.

Co-op students pay higher student fees. Laurier lists a 99% employment rate for co-op students in 2025-26.

Tuition and costs

Laurier lists 2026-27 Science tuition of $6,180 for domestic students and $36,624 for international students, for two terms. Student fees add $1,390 to $2,133 for domestic students, or $3,276 to $4,018 with co-op. Laurier estimates $1,500 for textbooks.

By our own arithmetic, a domestic student without co-op pays about $9,070 to $9,813 for tuition, fees and books, before housing. These fees are subject to increase for 2027-28.

Entrance scholarships

Laurier checks you for an entrance scholarship when you apply. It uses your admission average as of July 2027. For domestic students starting in September 2027, an average of 85.0% to 89.9% earns $2,500. An average of 90.0% to 94.9% earns $3,000. An average of 95% or higher earns the President's Gold Scholarship of $4,000.

The President's Gold Scholarship can renew each year if you keep a GPA of 10.5 or higher on at least 5.0 credits. Laurier also lists more than 700 scholarships and awards that need a separate application. For help with costs, read our OSAP guide.

Residence

Laurier guarantees residence on the Waterloo campus to first-year students attending a postsecondary school for the first time. Your residence application and the $600 non-refundable deposit must be in by June 1, 2027. Applications open in early April.

Waterloo has dorm-style and apartment-style buildings. Laurier lists 2026-27 dorm costs on the Waterloo campus of $8,373 to $10,475. Rooms are given out by lottery based on preference.

For parents

Laurier's Kinesiology rules are simpler than at many schools. There is no essay to write. Check that your child's Biology mark can reach 70%, since that is above the usual 60% floor. English and Biology both count in the average.

Two dates matter most after applying: April 25 for the optional ABS form and June 1 for both the offer and residence. Compare other Kinesiology programs too, such as McMaster and Waterloo. See all Ontario dates on our deadlines page.
