uOttawa Gym Guide: Minto Sports Complex and Montpetit Hall

If you're a full-time uOttawa student paying ancillary fees, your gym membership is already paid. It covers both fitness centres: the Montpetit Fitness Centre in Montpetit Hall and the Health and Lifestyle Centre in the Minto Sports Complex. It also covers the 50-metre pool, drop-in court sports, skating, group fitness classes and intramural leagues in fall and winter. You sign up for classes and leagues through Gee-Gee Reg.

What your student membership includes

uOttawa says your membership is included in your student ancillary fees for the fall and winter terms. You must be enrolled and have paid those fees with your tuition. Registered activities such as swimming lessons, dance, martial arts and personal training cost extra.

Some students don't pay ancillary fees: international exchange students, law students in the bar process, some Faculty of Medicine students, and students at a campus outside Ottawa. They can buy a discounted student membership for $124.

Montpetit Hall and Minto Sports Complex compared

The two buildings sit on main campus and do different jobs. Montpetit Hall is the pool and gym building. Minto has the larger weight room, the rinks and the outdoor turf. uOttawa's third sports site, at Lees campus, has Gee-Gees Field.

Drop-in sports, intramurals and Gee-Gee Reg

Drop-in activities need no registration. Bring your student card, running shoes and gym clothes. Badminton is first come, first served. Soccer moves between the Minto multisport field and the dome at Lees depending on the season.

Gee-Gee Reg, powered by ACTIVENet, is where you register for group fitness, intramurals and recreation programs. As a student you already have an account, so don't create a new one. Sign in, choose Forgot My Password, and set a password.

Intramural leagues run in fall and winter, with competitive and recreational levels. Nine sports are offered: basketball, dodgeball, flag football, hockey, multisport, soccer, spikeball, ultimate frisbee and volleyball. Fall 2026 registration opened September 2 and is first come, first served.

Where to get help

Gee-Gees Client Services has desks at Montpetit Hall and on the first floor of the Minto Sports Complex. You can buy or renew a membership there if you don't pay ancillary fees. The Intramurals office is in Room 102 of Montpetit Hall.
