Course requirements

uOttawa asks Ontario students for an OSSD (the Ontario Secondary School Diploma) with at least six 4U, 4M or DU courses. For Health Sciences you need English (ENG4U) or Français (FRA4U), Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), and one of Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Physics (SPH4U).

uOttawa adds that students with a strong background in biology, chemistry and physics do better. Any of ENG4U, EAE4U, EAL4U, ETS4U, EAC4U, EWC4U, FRA4U or FLO4U meets the English or French requirement. Grade 12 co-op, career and work experience courses don't count toward admission. The 85% minimum average

How uOttawa reads your grades in three rounds

uOttawa reviews Ontario high school applicants in three rounds. From mid-November to the end of January it uses your best five final 3U, 3M, 4U and 4M grades, with at least one math and two sciences. From mid-February to mid-April it uses six final grades, at least two of them from Grade 12.

From mid-May to August it uses six Grade 12 grades, including every prerequisite. uOttawa doesn't deny anyone in the first two rounds; refusals and alternative offers come only in the third.

If you haven't heard by the end of the second round, expect a final decision around the end of May. A status of "under review" usually means uOttawa is waiting for OUAC to send your latest grades, so make sure your school reports any course changes to OUAC.

How to apply

Apply through OUAC with code OKC by January 15, 2027, and send any documents by February 15, 2027. There's no supplementary application for Health Sciences. The program admits only in the fall.

You can study in English or French, or join the French Immersion Stream and take about a third of your courses in French. College students apply to the same first year: uOttawa's minimum is 70% after two years in one college program, or 75% after one year.

What you study and the three options

The BHSc looks at health from biological, social and environmental angles, and how they interact. uOttawa says it prepares students for graduate study in fields such as medicine, rehabilitation, dentistry and epidemiology, and for public and private health careers.

After you start, you can stay in the general program or choose one of three options: Population and Public Health, Technologies and Innovation in Health Care, or Integrative Health Biosciences, which focuses on cellular and molecular processes.

Several uOttawa programs lead toward health careers, and their minimums and courses differ. Compare them before you choose your OUAC codes, because the cheapest mistake is a missing prerequisite.

Co-op starts with an application in second year

You can't apply to Health Sciences co-op when you apply to uOttawa. uOttawa's co-op page lists health sciences among the programs you join after you start. In most undergraduate programs, you apply before September 30 of your second year, with an average of at least 75%. Spaces are limited, and uOttawa keeps a waiting list.

Co-op students alternate study terms with paid work terms, for about 16 months of experience over roughly four years. For 2026-27, the optional co-op fee is $896 for each work term with an employer, or $1,125 for international students. Once in co-op, you usually need a CGPA of at least 6.0 to stay.

Dual fast-track degrees in French

uOttawa also offers French-only dual fast-track programs that pair the BHSc with a Master of Health Sciences in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, audiology or speech-language pathology.

They're designed for bilingual students from francophone minority high schools across Canada outside Quebec, and only new high school graduates can apply. Students with earlier postsecondary study aren't eligible.
