Queen's University scholarships and financial aid
A complete Queen's funding plan can combine an automatic entrance scholarship, an application-based admission award, a need-based bursary, OSAP or another government program, external scholarships, and later work-study or general-bursary support. These routes do not share one application or deadline.
Principal's Scholarship

A one-year automatic award for students in the top 3% of the competitive admission average within each first-entry program.
Chancellor's Scholarship
$48,000
$12,000 annually over four years, 50 available, high-school nomination required, renewable with a 3.5 GPA in a full course load.
Admission bursary
Up to $8,240
Current maximums vary by faculty and are assessed through the Financial Aid and Awards Profile in SOLUS.
International Dean's awards
$10,000–$25,000/year
Automatic, renewable faculty awards for eligible students paying international fees in selected first-entry programs.

Queen's publishes tuition by program and unit load. The total below combines the normal-load tuition, Student Assistance Levy, and published ancillary fees. International totals also include the listed UHIP amount. Housing, food, books, transportation, and personal expenses remain additional.

2027–28 tuition status
Not yet published. The Registrar's schedule covers 2026–2027, the Board of Trustees reserves the right to change tuition and fees without notice, and fee increases typically take effect September 1 each year.

Four funding applications to keep separate
Automatic scholarships
Apply for admission. Queen's assesses eligible applicants using the grades available with the offer and can reassess accepted students after final grades arrive.
Financial Aid and Awards Profile
After applying, use SOLUS to submit the shared profile for admission bursaries, Commitment Bursaries, Major Access Awards, Promise Scholars, and many donor-funded awards.
Major Admission Awards
Prepare the separate SOLUS application and check whether a school nomination is required. The award application and program supplementary essay are different submissions.
Government student aid
Apply separately for OSAP or the student's home-province program. Queen's need-based aid can expect applicants to pursue government funding first.

Re-verified August 14, 2026, Queen's still showed December 8, 2025 for the prior Major Admission Award application and February 15, 2026 as the recommended Financial Aid and Awards Profile date. The Fall 2027 equivalents were not yet published. Applicants should monitor the live pages in early fall, apply early enough to receive SOLUS access, and confirm any high-school nomination before submitting.

Chancellor's Scholarship value and criteria
$48,000 total — $12,000 annually over four years — with 50 available. It requires a high-school nomination (part-time-study nominations are not accepted), targets superior academic ability with creative and original thinking and proven leadership at a 90%+ standard, and renews for three subsequent years provided a 3.5 GPA is achieved in a full course load each year.
The page still lists the prior cycle's December 8, 2025 application deadline; the Fall 2027 deadline is not yet posted.

Need-based admission bursaries
For 2026–27, first-year admission bursaries reach up to $6,285 for Arts and Science, $6,300 for Health Sciences or Nursing, $6,760 for Engineering and Applied Science, and $8,240 for Commerce, assessed through the Financial Aid and Awards Profile in SOLUS. The Commitment Bursary provides $2,000–$5,000, renewable for three subsequent years, for students from underserved or underrepresented groups with demonstrated financial need.
The recommended February 15, 2026 profile date belongs to the prior entry cycle, although applications continue after that date.

Dean's International Awards
Renewable four-year awards for students paying international tuition: $10,000, $15,000, $20,000, or $25,000 per year in Arts and Science and in Engineering; $15,000, $20,000, or $25,000 in Commerce; and $10,000 or $15,000 in Health Sciences. Students paying domestic fees are not eligible, and international applicants are also considered automatically for the $7,000 Principal's Scholarship.

Automatic and Major Admission Awards
The Principal's Scholarship is automatic, one year only, and awarded to the top 3% of the competitive admission average for each first-entry program. Queen's does not publish a single guaranteed percentage. Grades available with the offer are used first, and accepted applicants can be reassessed after final grades arrive in July.
Major Admission Awards use a separate application for eligible Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and protected persons. Queen's considers academic strength, original thinking, leadership, and school or community involvement; financial need applies to some awards. A 90%+ cumulative average is described as a competitive expectation, not an award guarantee. The flagship Chancellor's Scholarship — currently $48,000, paid as $12,000 annually over four years, with 50 available — requires a high-school nomination and renews only while a 3.5 GPA is achieved in a full course load.
Queen's financial-aid checklist
- 1.Use the exact 2026–2027 fee row for the student's program and residency status; do not treat Arts tuition as a university-wide price.
- 2.Add residence or rent, food, books, transportation, health coverage, travel, winter clothing, and an emergency reserve to the published academic total.
- 3.Submit the admission application early enough to receive SOLUS access before any award deadline.
- 4.Complete both the Financial Aid and Awards Profile and any separate Major Admission Award application that applies.
- 5.Keep automatic scholarships, need-based bursaries, government aid, work study, and external awards as separate lines in the funding plan.
Admission bursaries and the Financial Aid and Awards Profile
Eligible incoming Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and protected persons submit one Financial Aid and Awards Profile in SOLUS. Queen's uses it for the Admission Bursary, Commitment Bursary, Major Access Awards, Promise Scholars, and many donor-funded opportunities. Applicants should also apply for government student aid because anticipated public funding is part of the need assessment.
Current first-year admission-bursary maximums are $6,285 for Arts and Science, $6,300 for Health Sciences or Nursing, $6,760 for Engineering, and $8,240 for Commerce. The current Commitment Bursary provides $2,000 to $5,000 and can renew for three more years for eligible students from underserved or underrepresented groups who demonstrate financial need.
OSAP and current-student bursaries
OSAP is separate from Queen's institutional aid. Undergraduate students should not enter Queen's-administered scholarships, awards, or bursaries again on the OSAP application because the university reports them directly; external post-secondary awards still need to be reported.
After enrolment, the General Bursary can support eligible students with assessed need. Queen's currently expects most Canadian and U.S. applicants to qualify for at least $5,000 of government aid for two terms or $7,000 for three terms. International student scholarships
International applicants are considered automatically for the Principal's Scholarship and other eligible awards. The Dean's International Award program currently offers renewable annual awards of $10,000, $15,000, $20,000, or $25,000 to eligible international-fee students entering Arts and Science, Engineering, Commerce, or Health Sciences.
These awards do not make every program affordable on their own. Compare the international academic totals above with Queen's residence and meal-plan costs and keep a separate travel, permit, insurance, and emergency budget.
