Course requirements

Queen's asks for the OSSD (the Ontario Secondary School Diploma) and six 4U or 4M courses. For Nursing, four are set: English 4U, Biology 4U, Chemistry 4U and any 4U math. You need at least 75% in English 4U. The other two courses can be 4U or 4M.

Any 4U math counts, so Data Management works as well as Advanced Functions or Calculus. Plan your timetable with our course planner.

The low 90s minimum

Queen's publishes the minimum average, based on prerequisite courses, that was needed for consideration for September of last year. For Nursing it was the low 90s, the same as Health Sciences. Queen's says these minimums change each year and could be higher.

Reaching the minimum gets your supplementary application read. It doesn't guarantee an offer. Queen's doesn't publish a Nursing acceptance rate; our Queen's acceptance rate page explains what it does publish. Work out your average with our Top 6 average calculator.

The supplementary application

Applicants to the four-year Nursing program must complete Queen's Supplementary Application: one written response and one video response, delivered through Kira Talent. Kira lets you practise before you submit. It's due February 15, 2027, and Queen's won't accept late submissions.

If your grades place you above the minimum Queen's sets, it uses the supplementary application to learn more about you. Offers are then based on grades and the supplement together. Queen's posts a supplementary application FAQ and scoring rubrics. The CASPer test isn't required for Queen's Nursing.

How to apply

Apply through OUAC by February 1, 2027, a month before Queen's deadline for most programs. Queen's then sends your SOLUS login, and your To-Do List there shows the supplement and any documents. Documents are due March 31, 2027.

Queen's also runs Indigenous and first-generation admission pathways, which Nursing applicants can use. Students with earlier university credits can look at the two-year Accelerated Standing Track (AST), which has its own document deadline of March 15, 2027 and no supplementary application.

From outside Ontario

The 75% English rule carries over to other provinces. From Alberta you need English 30-1 at 75% or more, Biology 30, Chemistry 30 and Mathematics 30-1, 30-2 or 31, plus one more 30 or 31 level course. From British Columbia you need English Studies 12 at 75% or more, Anatomy and Physiology 12, Chemistry 12 and Pre-Calculus 12, Calculus 12 or Foundations of Math 12.

CEGEP students need two English courses with at least 70%, two in Calculus or Linear Algebra, one Biology, two Chemistry and one more in Biology, Chemistry or Physics. Every Nursing applicant, from any province, completes the supplementary application.

From the IB

IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma students need the full diploma with six subjects, three at Higher Level, no mark below 3 and at least 28 points, not counting bonus points. Nursing needs Biology, Chemistry, English and Mathematics, with at least 4 in English, predicted or final.

What the four years look like

First year covers nutrition, professional relationships, health assessment, statistics, anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology and psychology. You practise communication and assessment skills in the GSK Clinical Education Centre. Queen's registers you in core courses, and first year has no electives.

Clinical placements start in second year: a two-hour lab and an eight-hour clinical shift each week in a health care agency. Third year rotates you through pediatrics, maternity, mental health and medical-surgical care. Fourth year ends with a 400-hour integrated practicum, and you can apply to do it anywhere in Canada.

The program is full-time, in person and not offered online. Before placements you need in-person first aid and CPR (BLS or HCP) dated after May 1 of your entry year, plus a criminal record check.

Placements, not co-op

Queen's Nursing pages don't list a co-op option. The work experience is built into the degree: weekly clinical shifts from second year and the 400-hour final practicum.

The BNSc is approved by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Graduates can apply to register as a Registered Nurse in Ontario, or with the regulator in the province where they plan to work.

Tuition and scholarships

Queen's 2026-27 Nursing fees for a full year are $7,827.40 for Ontario students, $9,385.60 for other Canadians and $56,042.50 for international students. Those totals include the student activity levy and ancillary fees, and UHIP for international students.

Every applicant is considered automatically for a $7,000 Principal's Scholarship, given to the top 3% of each program's admission average. The Major Admission Awards, worth $40,000 to $72,000 depending on the program, need an application by December 8, 2026. Queen's says a 90% or higher cumulative average is needed to be competitive for them.

Support and options inside the degree

Queen's Nursing has its own program academic advisers and a student mental health coach. Classes and groups are kept small, and you train alongside students from other Faculty of Health Sciences programs.

You can shape the degree further by applying for research or simulation lab assistant jobs. You can also add a Certificate in Business, a Certificate in Law or an Arts and Science certificate, or complete a dual degree in Arts and Science. Queen's says the BNSc builds a base for graduate study, including becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

For parents

The February 1, 2027 deadline is a month earlier than most Queen's programs, and the supplement follows two weeks later. Put both dates in the calendar in the fall of Grade 12.

Your child needs 75% or more in Grade 12 English, separate from the overall average. A strong science record alone won't cover a weak English mark.
