Queen's First-Year Residences Compared

Queen's has about 4,800 first-year beds across 17 buildings. For 2026–27 your total depends on room type, from $13,100.80 for a Loft Double to $20,330.80 for a Single Plus, meal plan included. Compare rooms, washrooms and access first, then check the guarantee rules.

2026–27 costs by room type

Queen's prices residence by room type, not by building. Each total adds the $805 deposit, a $120 Residence Society fee, $150 in Good-to-Go and Flex dollars and $91.80 in insurance to the room and meal plan charge.

The building lists come from Queen's room-type menu. Two official pages disagree. The buildings table lists Triple and Quad rooms in Morris, but the Morris page lists only Single, Double and Loft Double. JDUC's page also lists a Double, while the fee table groups JDUC under Single Plus only. Confirm with Residence Admissions if either matters to you.

What the washroom labels mean

A Single Plus is a single room with an adjoining washroom shared with one other room of the same identified gender. Roommate requests aren't available for Single Plus rooms.

Communal washrooms are shared down the hall. Single-user washrooms are private rooms used by one person at a time, and Chown and Victoria use them by default. JDUC is the only building where a private washroom is the default.

Queen's says a building can mix room and washroom types, so your exact room may differ from the default. The building pages we checked don't list air conditioning. If you need it, ask Residence Admissions or file an accommodation request.

Communities that narrow your shortlist

Some building pages list a community type, which can decide the choice faster than price.

  • All woman-identified: Adelaide Hall and Ban Righ Hall.
  • Alcohol and Cannabis Not Preferred (ACNP): Leggett Hall and Victoria Hall.
  • Living Learning Community buildings: David C. Smith, Jean Royce, Leonard and Waldron.
  • Study floors: Endaayaan–Tkanónsote and Leonard.
  • Pet-friendly community: Jean Royce Hall.

What the fee covers and when it's due

Fees cover September 5, 2026, until 3 p.m. the day after your last scheduled exam in April 2027. They include a furnished room, utilities and internet.

The residence meal plan is mandatory and already in the price. It gives you 19 meals a week across three dining halls, 175 Trade-a-Meals and $145 in Flex dollars.

Half the room and meal plan charge is due September 1, 2026, and the other half January 10, 2027. Students receiving government aid, including OSAP, get an automatic grace period to October 1, 2026, and January 31, 2027. Laundry costs $2.25 per wash and per dry.

The residence guarantee and June 1 deadline

These are the Fall 2026 rules. Queen's hasn't published Fall 2027 residence dates yet, so treat them as a pattern to check, not a promise.

Queen's guaranteed a space to students with an offer on or before April 15, 2026. International and Indigenous students had a later cut-off: May 31, 2026, in the main text and May 30 in the page's own FAQ. Queen's expected more than 90% of offers to include the guarantee.

To keep the guarantee, you had to apply, have the $805 deposit received and accept your offer by June 1, 2026, at 4 p.m. ET. Students with a later offer who met the same deadline went into a lottery. Offers after June 1 could join the waitlist. Accommodation forms were also due June 1.

Queen's says $500 of the deposit is refundable if you cancel by July 1 at 4 p.m. ET. After that, the full deposit is non-refundable.

How to build your shortlist

For deeper comparisons, see our guides to Brant, Smith and Leggett, Victoria Hall and Jean Royce Hall.

  • Set your budget by room type, since price doesn't change by building.
  • Cross off buildings without the washroom or elevator access you need.
  • Check whether a community type (ACNP, LLC, all woman-identified) fits you.
  • Weigh West Campus: Jean Royce has its own dining hall, so check your travel to classes on Main Campus.
  • Read the building page and floor plan before self-selection opens.
