Brant vs Smith vs Leggett at Queen's

All three are mixed-gender Main Campus residences near the Kingston waterfront. Each lists only Single Plus rooms, with two private bedrooms sharing a semi-private washroom. The 2026–27 building pages list the same full academic-year total, and each building has passenger elevators and carpet-free rooms and hallways.

The official pages do not rank one building as quieter, more social, or better. Those experiences can vary by floor and cohort. Compare the building features below and keep backups: lottery timing determines what remains during self-selection.

For 2026–27, Single Plus costs $20,330.80 at each building. That total includes the $805 deposit, $19,164 room-and-meal-plan charge, $120 Residence Society fee, $150 for GOOD TO GO and Flex dollars, and $91.80 residence insurance. The residence term begins September 5, 2026 and ends no later than 3 p.m. the day after the student's last scheduled April 2027 exam.

Single Plus is a private bedroom, not a shared bedroom. The semi-private washroom connects two private bedrooms.

General applicants cannot form a Single Plus roommate group. Queen's pages disagree about the accommodation exception: the first-year application FAQ permits a group when both students have approved Single Plus accommodations, while the accommodation FAQ prohibits it. Confirm the current rule with Residence Admissions before relying on that exception.

Brant's building page lists two included room items: a mini fridge and TV. It also lists common rooms and kitchenettes with microwaves, fridges, and ovens. Wireless internet is available in bedrooms and common rooms, although Queen's encourages a router for multiple devices.

Brant lists 262 residents and eight Dons. Leonard Dining Hall and other retail locations are nearby. The official page does not establish a particular social atmosphere or noise level.

David C. Smith House lists Location 21, a retail dining location, inside the building and a mini fridge in the room. It has wireless internet in bedrooms and common rooms, two passenger elevators, and 262 residents with nine Dons.

For 2026–27, Smith's fourth floor hosts the Leadership LLC and part of the Engineering LLC, both in Single Plus rooms. LLC spaces are limited and require an application response. Locations can change each year, so a Fall 2027 applicant should treat the 2026–27 placements as latest-available rather than guaranteed.

Leggett is the largest of the three by listed occupancy, with 324 residents and ten Dons. Its page highlights many common spaces, including group study rooms. It uses wired internet, so students who want Wi-Fi in their room should bring a router and ethernet cable.

For 2026–27, the fifth floor hosts an Alcohol and Cannabis Not Preferred Unique Community in Single Plus rooms. Residents make an affirmative commitment to a living environment free from alcohol, cannabis, and other drugs. Queen's says it will meet all requests for this community, but the location can change in another cycle.

Queen's assigns self-selection times by lottery. Earlier times see a larger inventory, and clicking Finalize Selection locks the room. A residence guarantee covers a bed space, not a specific building or room type. Rank these three and add other room types or buildings before your assigned time.

During selection, inspect the floor, room attributes, proximity to a lounge or elevator, and any LLC or Unique Community designation. Floor plans and 3D tours show examples only; Queen's warns that room size, appearance, windows, flooring, storage, and furnishings can vary.
