Match the fee row to the degree and course load
Most Queen's first-entry tuition is charged by units. The normal Arts and Science load is 30 units. The published Ontario rate is $206.82 per unit. Our calculation is $206.82 x 30 = $6,204.60. Taking a different load changes tuition. It doesn't mean every annual student fee changes by the same share. Keep the course count and fee rules beside your budget.
Computing has its own higher rate. Commerce uses 33 units in its first two years, then 30 in the later rows. Engineering lists 32.2 units and a per-term assessment limit. These details explain why you can't compare every offer with the ordinary Arts and Science figure. Our Queen's Arts requirements guide and Computing requirements guide explain those different entry routes.
The distance Health Sciences row also differs from the on-campus course. Its international tuition is lower, and its printed total has no standard on-campus ancillary or UHIP line. Read the route in your offer. The online price isn't a cheaper quote for an on-campus place. The Registrar has a specific ancillary opt-in rule for online Health Sciences students taking an on-campus course.

Your fee status decides which domestic column applies
Ontario and other-province domestic tuition aren't the same. Queen's Ontario test includes your most recent province of residence for 12 months before post-secondary study. It also has rules for a dependent student's parent or guardian, and for a spouse or common-law partner. An Ontario campus address alone doesn't settle your status. If the rate looks wrong, ask which documents Queen's needs.
At the 30-unit Arts and Science load, the other-province tuition row is $7,762.80. The international row is $44,809.80. Each carries the same $100 Student Assistance Levy, but international basic health cover adds another charge. Compare tuition-only figures with tuition-only figures. A total that includes insurance is answering a different question from a tuition price.
The current international commitment offers a four-year tuition guarantee for your original first-entry, first-degree program. It doesn't transfer when you switch programs. Terms apply. That promise doesn't establish the starting rate for an offer you haven't received. Check your actual offer and the next schedule before treating any current price as a four-year budget.

Compulsory fees and optional opt-outs have different rules
SAL means Student Assistance Levy. Queen's prints it separately from tuition and ancillary fees. At the normal Arts and Science load, SAL is $100 and the ancillary slate is $1,466.51. Our calculation is $6,204.60 + $100 + $1,466.51 = $7,771.11. That matches the school's total. It still leaves residence and books outside the amount.
Ancillary fees pay for university and student-government services. On-campus undergraduates linked to the Alma Mater Society, or AMS, are assessed the slate at nine or more units. Some charges are compulsory. Others permit a timely opt-out. You can't remove the whole slate because you plan to use fewer services. The displayed totals keep the published charges until a valid opt-out changes your account.
Your faculty can add charges. Kinesiology adds $27, and Concurrent Education adds $30 to the Arts and Science ancillary line. Computing and Commerce have different slates. A January starter also has a separate ancillary amount. Use the actual program and start term instead of copying another student's bill. Check the charges again after a change in course registration.

Health and dental are included; UHIP is an added basic plan
The on-campus ancillary totals already include AMS health and dental. Don't add a second plan allowance to them. For 2026-27, the full-year opt-out window is September 1 to 29, 2026. A winter-start window runs January 4 to 29, 2027. You need proof of other extended health and dental coverage. Missing the deadline can leave the plan charge payable.
UHIP means University Health Insurance Plan. It is primary medical cover for international students, separate from the extended AMS benefits. The fall-start 2026-27 tuition table adds $948. Degree students enrol annually; dependants need their own enrolment and charges. A parent's dental plan doesn't by itself replace this basic medical plan. Follow the International Centre's actual exemption rules if you think you have equivalent cover.
The tuition page's shorter-start UHIP note still says January 2026 beside a May 2027 figure. We don't turn that older January label into a confirmed January 2027 premium. The example here is domestic and has no UHIP charge. If you're an international winter starter, get the correct coverage period and premium from Queen's before using the fall-start total.

Residence totals already include the meal plan and deposit
Queen's publishes a room-and-food package. The 2026-27 full total runs from $13,100.80 for a Loft Double to $20,330.80 for a Single Plus. It includes the $805 deposit and the printed society, Flex and insurance charges. Adding another $805 to that published total counts it twice. Our Queen's residence guide covers room types and how you apply.
The included Weekly 19 plan supplies 19 meals each week. Its 175 Trade a Meals let you exchange a weekly dining-hall meal for a retail combo. They aren't 175 extra meals on top of the weekly allowance. The plan also includes $145 in Flex. Unused weekly meals expire rather than turning into cash. Don't subtract unused meals from your package price when building a budget.
The room contract covers the academic residence period, not a full calendar year. Laundry and personal items remain extra. A private rental may involve summer rent and separate utilities or food. Compare the whole time you need housing. The package's included internet and utilities don't tell you what a private lease will cover, or what that lease will cost.

The worked example shows a defined first-year subtotal
The example assumes an Ontario Arts and Science entrant taking 30 units and living in a Single room. It excludes Computing and the two faculty-fee exceptions. Our calculation is $6,204.60 tuition + $100 SAL + $1,466.51 ancillary + $18,795.80 residence = $26,566.91. It uses only the school's printed figures and keeps each charge once.
That total is a planning example, not your final bill. It leaves books, course equipment, laundry and travel outside the sum. We haven't guessed a personal-spending allowance or deducted a scholarship you may never receive. An approved fee opt-out would change the example. A room assignment at another price would also change it. Keep those choices visible when comparing offers.
You can build your own version in the university cost calculator. Its Queen's academic preset is fees-inclusive, so don't add the same ancillary slate a second time. Check the year of any saved budget. A useful comparison starts with the same fee group and housing period for each school, then adds your own real expenses.

Payment deadlines come before some funding arrives
Queen's current undergraduate rule makes fall tuition due September 1. Ancillary fees are due October 1. Winter tuition and SAL are due January 10. The 2026-27 key dates confirm those dates in their own cycle. Check SOLUS Charges Due for the amount attached to each deadline. An application deadline doesn't replace a student-account payment deadline.
Queen's provides government-aid recipients an automatic grace period for tuition while funding arrives. The current fall boundary is October 1 and the winter boundary is January 31. The residence page confirms the same grace periods for 2026-27 residence charges. You still need to pay a shortfall. The published tuition/SAL late fee is $150 when the relevant due date is missed.
The public Pre-Authorized Payment Plan is for eligible graduate students. It isn't a monthly plan you can assume as a first-year undergraduate. Ask the Registrar about your case if regular dates won't work. Use the university's listed payment routes and allow for processing. A bank confirmation that money left your account isn't proof that Queen's has posted the payment.

Residence deposits have their own cancellation conditions
The 2026 residence application required the $805 deposit by June 1 at 4 p.m. Eastern Time. That date is a prior-cycle fact. Fall room-and-meal charges were due September 1, 2026; the second half is due January 10, 2027. The small package charges sit with the fall payment. These dates explain the current structure without claiming the same schedule for a Fall 2027 room.
The cancellation page says $500 of the deposit is refundable for requests by July 1, 2026. The next sentence uses July 1, 2025 for the non-refundable boundary. Those years conflict. Ask Residence Admissions which rule applies to your offer. Cancelling your academic offer also requires a separate housing cancellation. Leaving residence after move-in follows the withdrawal policy, rather than the pre-arrival deposit rule.
The Registrar's international deposit link now leads to the general international commitment page. It gives no universal admission-deposit amount. We therefore quote no amount for that separate payment. Your admission offer controls any deposit you must pay. An admission payment and the residence deposit serve different purposes; meeting one condition doesn't complete the other application.

A course drop and a refund aren't the same result
For fall 2026 undergraduate courses, the full tuition and SAL reversal ends September 21. The 50% boundary is October 5 and the 25% boundary is November 2. After November 2, there's no tuition refund. The academic date to drop without Faculty or School permission is December 8. That later date concerns your course record, not a promise to return the fees.
The winter 2027 schedule gives a full reversal through January 15 and a final 25% boundary of February 26. Its 50% row says January 29. Key dates says January 30. We show both and suggest asking the Registrar before using the later day. The academic drop limit is April 5. Some programs need their own faculty rules, so check your course and session.
The undergraduate refund bands apply to tuition and SAL. Residence, optional ancillary fees and health plans have their own rules. Don't use the graduate withdrawal table simply because it has a later refund date. If you receive Ontario aid, fee refunds may be sent to the loan service centre. A credit shown on SOLUS isn't always cash that will arrive in your bank.

Automatic scholarships need an award before they reduce your budget
The current Principal's Scholarship is $7,000 for one year. Queen's selects the top 3% of the competitive admission average within each first-entry program. There is no single percentage that guarantees it across every degree. You don't submit a separate application for this award. Treat automatic consideration as a chance to be reviewed, rather than money already deducted from tuition.
The automatic page also lists the Senator Frank Carrel Admission Scholarship for selected entrants with a Quebec address. It pays $18,000 annually and can renew for three more years under the award rules. Eligibility and selection aren't the same. Other named awards can replace an automatic award with one of equal or greater value. Read the terms of the offer you receive instead of adding every possible scholarship together.
Queen's has confirmed the December 8, 2026 Major Admission Award deadline and the February 15, 2027 recommended Financial Aid and Awards Profile date. Those forms cover separate funding routes. The Queen's financial-aid guide remains the owner for scholarship and bursary details. Use it alongside your admission timeline, especially if you need support beyond a grade-based award.

Plan the gap between aid approval and payment
OSAP is the Ontario Student Assistance Program. Queen's must confirm your enrolment before funding is released. The school currently recommends applying by July 1 for a September start, but that advice has no year. Its available application is 2026-27. We haven't called July 1, 2027 a confirmed new-cycle target. Submit the required documents and watch the funding status as well as the estimate.
OSAP sent directly to Queen's covers tuition and mandatory fees. The residence cost isn't included in that remittance. You must pay housing from your own funds or the aid left for your bank account. Wait for the OSAP credit to post before paying a remaining academic balance. That avoids paying the same charge twice while still keeping housing on your list.
Admission awards granted at the start of the year are normally paid to SOLUS in two equal shares: August for fall and December for winter. The General Bursary normally posts in late December. Award credit is held for university charges, and unused eligible credit has a later refund process. Our OSAP guide explains the government steps; Queen's determines the timing on your own account.

What still needs a Fall 2027 cost check
The checked tuition and housing schedules cover 2026-27. 2027-28 tuition, ancillary fees, insurance premiums and room-and-meal prices aren't published there. The checked pages also don't confirm new-cycle opt-out or course-refund dates. Our next recheck is February 1, 2027. Recheck again before you accept a room or make a payment that you can't recover.
The Major Admission Award access advice also differs within the admissions calendar. A dated row recommends applying to Queen's by November 20, 2026. The December 8 award paragraph says by November 15. Ask Queen's which early-access target applies. Both are advice for getting access to the form; the actual award deadline remains December 8, 2026.
Confirmed 2027 admission and funding-form dates stay separate from those gaps. March 1 is the Arts and Science application deadline and March 31 is the document deadline. Our Ontario application-deadlines guide covers the wider calendar. The Queen's university hub keeps the overview. This page owns the detailed cost comparison and its student-account limits.
