Where your program and term use enrolment appointments, your appointment determines when you can start registering. Check the displayed open-enrolment dates and faculty instructions; not every registration route uses an appointment.
Adding courses to your cart or using Validate does not enrol you. Validate checks prerequisites. The steps below summarize Queen’s tutorials; follow the instructions shown for your faculty, term and account.
Some programs pre-enrol students in required courses; check the faculty instructions before changing these. A debt-related registration hold can prevent adding or swapping.
| Task | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Find your registration window | Manage Classes → Enrolment Dates; select the term and check applicable appointment or open-enrolment dates |
| Register from a prepared cart | Shopping Cart → select classes → Enrol → confirm the pop-up → read the Confirmation result |
| Remove a course | Drop Classes → select and review → submit → confirm the pop-up → read the Confirmation result |
| Replace a course | Swap Classes → choose the existing and replacement courses → review and submit → confirm the pop-up → read the Confirmation result |
| Check the result | View My Classes; distinguish enrolled, waitlisted and dropped entries |
Planning is not a reserved seat
For Arts and Science, the faculty recommends the Shopping Cart over Planner: Planner can include obsolete or unavailable courses. Check prerequisites in the Academic Calendar or the class’s enrolment information. A waitlist place is not enrolment; holds, requisites, capacity and unit limits still matter.
Changing a lab or tutorial? Arts and Science warns that using Update to choose a full, waitlisted section can remove your existing place and waitlist both lecture and lab/tutorial. Its guide also explains Swap for replacing a timetable-conflicting course from a waitlist. Read that guidance before changing an existing enrolment.
Check two different deadlines before dropping
Being able to change your academic record does not promise a refund. Queen’s distinguishes academic deadlines from its financial drop schedule. The undergraduate refund schedule applies to tuition and the Student Assistance Levy; the amount depends on when you drop. Check the relevant term and program before confirming.
Use Queen’s Key Dates and faculty sessional calendars for current add/drop deadlines. Select the correct academic year, faculty and course session; a summer or graduate deadline is not an undergraduate fall deadline. This guide deliberately does not repeat dates that can change.
If registration does not work
Check Tasks for a hold and Financial Account for charges. SOLUS also provides Academic Progress and academic records; these are different from your admissions status.
For Arts and Science, prerequisite overrides go to the course department; financial blocks go to the Registrar. For other faculties, start with their own registration support.
