Course requirements
Queen's Ontario requirements page lists the same courses for Music (QM) and Concurrent Education/Music (QMM): ENG4U and five more required courses at the 4U or 4M level. No math or science is required. The page also lists a personal audition and interview.
Queen's averages are based on your required courses. Choose your five other courses with care, since they count. Map them in our course planner.
The average you need
Queen's competitive average table lists Music (QM) and Concurrent Education/Music (QMM) at low 80s. Queen's says this is the minimum average for admission consideration for last September. It can be higher this year.
Queen's also says preference goes to applicants with the strongest overall qualifications. For music, that means your audition counts with your grades. Queen's does not publish an acceptance rate for music. Track your grades with our Top 6 average calculator.

The audition
All BMus streams need an audition, and so does Concurrent Education Music. After you apply on OUAC, the DAN School contacts you to book a live audition or upload a recording. Live auditions are Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21, 2027. Queen's says it gives no preference to live auditions.
Classical applicants prepare a 15-minute program of two or three works in contrasting styles. Some instruments also play scales or sight-read. Contemporary applicants choose repertoire and a technical part. Digital Music and Sonic Arts applicants send three works and a short note on how each was made and their role in it. They also send an artist statement through an online form.
Queen's pages don't state a rule on outside help with statements. Any original composition in a contemporary choice must be your own work. Make sure your statements are in your own words too.

Where Queen's pages disagree
The Ontario requirements page lists a personal audition and interview for QM and QMM. The DAN School's audition pages describe the audition and statements but don't mention an interview. Ask programs.danschool@queensu.ca whether you'll have one.
The supplementary information page still names a Bachelor of Music Theatre program. The DAN School FAQ says admission to the 2 + 2 Music Theatre program was suspended, a decision made by St. Lawrence College. Music theatre now runs as a stream inside the BMus, so apply to QM.

Dates for Fall 2027
Queen's dates page lists March 1, 2027 as the application deadline for all first-year programs except Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing. That includes music. All documents are due March 31, 2027.
The DAN School offers early acceptance review for online auditions. Send your recorded audition and all other materials by January 31, 2027 to be considered. If you want a Major Admission Award, Queen's suggests applying on OUAC by November 20, 2026. The award form is due December 8, 2026. Compare dates on our Ontario deadlines page.

What you study
Queen's 2026-27 calendar says the BMus plan is 90.00 units inside a 120.00-unit degree. Core courses include MUSC 103 Music, Meaning, and Society, MUSC 156 Introduction to Digital Audio Recording, Editing, and Mixing, and MUSC 273 An Introduction to Music Education. Your stream then makes up 45.00 units.
On top of the core and stream, you take 12.00 units of music at the 300 level or above and 18.00 more units of music or entrepreneurship courses at any level. The last 30.00 units are electives, so you can add a minor in another subject.
The calendar notes that the plan's requirements changed for 2026-27. Students in the BMus or the BA Honours in Music can also add Concurrent Education or a certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Co-op, practicums and internships
The DAN School pages don't list a co-op program for music. Instead, you can earn credit for practicums, such as working on a production, through MUSC 247 for 1.5 units. You can also do a community internship for 3.0 or 6.0 units through MUSC 395 or 396. You find your own internship and apply at least four weeks before the term.

Scholarships
Queen's gives a Principal's Scholarship of $7,000 to students in the top 3% of the competitive admission average for each program. You don't apply. Queen's builds the awards average from the courses required for your program.
The DAN School says you're considered automatically for many music and drama awards. Some need an audition or application. See our scholarship finder for more options.

BMus, BA in Music or Concurrent Education
Pick the BMus (QM) if you want an audition-based degree with a stream in classical, contemporary, music theatre or digital music. Pick the BA in Music if you want music with another subject. It's a four-year honours or three-year general degree, and admission is based on grades only.
Pick Concurrent Education/Music (QMM) if you plan to teach. It has the same courses and audition. The DAN School also runs Media and Performance Production, a four-year honours BA that pairs music or drama with media production. Computing and the Creative Arts is a computing degree with a music or drama focus. Compare QMM with our Queen's Concurrent Education page, and with Western Music and Laurier Music.

For parents
A trip to Kingston isn't required. Queen's treats recorded and live auditions the same. A January 31 recording gets early review.
