Queen's University residence costs, rooms, and selection

Queen's lists 18 residence buildings, about 4,800 first-year bed spaces, six room configurations, and four washroom types. For 2026–2027, the published academic-year total ranges from $13,100.80 for a Loft Double to $20,330.80 for a Single Plus. Those totals include the $805 deposit, room and mandatory meal plan, Residence Society fee, Good-to-Go and Flex Dollars, and residence insurance.

Queen's residence fees for 2026–2027

The residence period begins September 5, 2026 and ends no later than 3 pm on the day after the student's final scheduled April 2027 exam. The totals below were re-verified against the live fee schedule on August 14, 2026. Recheck the official fee schedule before paying because later academic years can change.

Each total adds the $805 deposit, $120 Residence Society fee, $150 in Good-to-Go and Flex Dollars, and $91.80 insurance to the room-and-meal amount. The remaining fall balance is due September 1, 2026 and the winter balance January 10, 2027. Eligible government-aid recipients receive Queen's published automatic grace periods while their funding arrives.

Queen's residence buildings and room types

The six configurations are Single, Single Plus, Double, Loft Double, Triple, and Quad. Washrooms can be private, semi-private between two Single Plus rooms, single-user facilities shared by a floor, or communal facilities. A guarantee covers a bed space; the building, room, and washroom available at selection depend on the student's time and remaining inventory.

Compare building pages rather than assuming that every room with the same name has the same layout. Queen's publishes first-year bed counts, room and washroom styles, laundry, front-desk service, photos, 3D tours, floor plans, and location details for each building.

How Queen's residence self-selection works

Queen's assigns each student a self-selection date and time by lottery. Earlier times normally see more buildings and room types. Students can filter available spaces by building, room type, and attributes, then choose a floor and room. Clicking “Finalize Selection” locks the choice.

For Fall 2026, first-year time slots were emailed during the week of July 6. Living Learning and Unique Communities selected July 13–14, approved accommodations July 15–16, and general selection ran July 22–24. Those dates have passed and are not Fall 2027 dates. Prepare a ranked list instead of relying on one preferred building.

Searches for “StarRez Queens” refer to the official Queen's Housing & Ancillary Services Portal, which is powered by StarRez and uses Queen's student single-sign-on. Use the queensu.ca portal rather than an unofficial login result.

Off-campus Queen's student housing in Kingston

Queen's Community Housing manages university-owned rentals and runs the Accommodations Listing Service for local listings. Queen's does not endorse, inspect, verify, or warrant private listings in that service. Students remain responsible for checking the landlord, property, lease, safety, utilities, roommate liability, and full annual cost.

Compare residence with Kingston rent using the same time period. Include food, utilities, internet, furnishings, insurance, transportation, deposits, summer rent, and subletting risk rather than comparing only the advertised monthly rent with the eight-month residence total.
