What the Teacher Education Stream is
Trent calls its concurrent option the Teacher Education Stream, or TES. You design a BA or BSc around your interests. Along the way you take 3.5 credits in Education and complete placements. Trent describes it as a four year concurrent program.
The stream does not give you a B.Ed. by itself. After your degree, you move into Trent's Consecutive B.Ed. if you meet the rules for a reserved seat. Plan on your four year degree plus a 12 month B.Ed. The stream runs at both the Peterborough and Durham GTA campuses.

Course requirements
Trent's general rules ask for the OSSD and six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses, including the prerequisites for your program. ENG4U needs at least 60%. For the Teacher Education Stream, BSc applicants also need a 4U math.
If you plan a science major, also check the science prerequisites for that major, such as SBI4U or SCH4U. Plan your Grade 12 timetable with our course planner.

The average you need
Trent's usual minimum is a 70% overall average. The Teacher Education Stream asks for more: a 75% overall average. Trent does not publish a competitive average above that or an acceptance rate for the stream.
The number that matters most comes later. To get a reserved B.Ed. seat, you need at least an 85% average on your most recent 10.0 credits at Trent. Work out your high school number with our Top 6 average calculator.

The reserved B.Ed. seat
Trent holds spaces in the Consecutive B.Ed. each year for TES graduates. To get one you must finish all TES requirements, hold an 85% average on your last 10.0 credits, send the B.Ed. Profile of Experience and apply in the year right after you finish the stream.
Intermediate Senior applicants also need two teaching subjects. If you miss the 85% mark, you can still apply through the regular B.Ed. admission process, but without a reserved seat.

Teaching subjects for Grades 7 to 12
If you want to teach Intermediate Senior, Trent says at least one of your subjects must be English, Mathematics, Dramatic Arts, Biology, First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies, History, Geography or French as a Second Language.
If you want to teach Chemistry, Physics or Environmental Science, you must pair it with Biology. Choose your major and minor with these rules in mind from first year.

Placements and co-op
TES students complete 30 hours of education placements in each of years two, three and four. In the B.Ed., Trent lists about 90 days of teaching practicum.
The Teacher Education Stream is not a co-op program. Placements and practicum are the hands-on parts of the path.

The B.Ed. is changing to 12 months
Trent says its Consecutive B.Ed. is moving to a 12 month, full time program over three terms, from early May to the end of April. This follows Ontario Ministry direction. Trent says the new program is pending formal approval.
The B.Ed. covers two divisions: Primary Junior, kindergarten to Grade 6, and Intermediate Senior, Grades 7 to 12. Since you would start the B.Ed. around 2031, check the details again closer to that time.

Peterborough or Durham GTA
Trent runs the Teacher Education Stream at both of its campuses. Peterborough is the main campus. Durham GTA suits students who want to study on the east side of the Greater Toronto Area.
The Consecutive B.Ed. also runs at both sites. Your choice of campus can shape where you complete placements, so think about where you would like to teach. The program list for each campus can differ, so check that your planned major is offered where you want to study.

How this compares with other concurrent programs
At some schools, the B.Ed. courses run alongside your first degree from year one. At Trent, the education credits and placements run alongside your BA or BSc, and the B.Ed. itself comes after. The trade off is a lower entry average and a clear target, 85%, for the reserved seat.
Trent also offers an Option in Education for students who want education courses without the full stream, and an Indigenous B.Ed. Ask Trent's education admissions office which route fits you before you apply. Compare it with Queen's Concurrent Education.

Tuition for 2026-27
For Fall 2026 and Winter 2027, Trent lists Peterborough tuition of $6,240.85 for Ontario students in most undergraduate programs. With ancillary and levy fees, new students pay $8,363.07. Trent says these are estimates pending approval.
Housing, meal plans, books and course fees are extra. B.Ed. fees are separate and will apply to the year you enter the B.Ed.

Entrance scholarships
Trent automatically assesses Canadian students coming from high school for entrance scholarships. An 80% average earns $1,500 a year. 85% earns $2,000 a year. 90% earns $3,000 a year. A 95% average earns full first year tuition and then $4,000 a year.
You need at least 80% in a full course load to renew. Since the reserved B.Ed. seat needs 85%, aiming for that mark protects both.

For parents
The Teacher Education Stream is easier to enter than many ConEd programs, with a 75% minimum. The hard part is keeping an 85% at university to hold the B.Ed. seat.
