Ontario course requirements

Laurier asks for English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Biology (SBI4U) and Chemistry (SCH4U), each at 60% or more. All four required courses count in your admission average, and Laurier fills the rest from your top 4U and 4M courses.

Calculus and Vectors and Physics are not required. Laurier does list physics courses for the life sciences as first-year electives, so take SPH4U if you have room and are thinking about medicine. Students from other provinces can use Laurier's course equivalents chart. Plan your courses with our course planner.

International students need senior English, Biology, Chemistry and math covering algebra, trigonometry and functions, each at 60%. If your last three years of full-time school were not in English, you may need to show English proficiency. Laurier's Academic Transition Pathway can meet that condition.

The low 80s admission range

Laurier lists an average admission range of the low 80s for Health Sciences, for both Ontario and international applicants. Laurier says meeting the average does not guarantee an offer.

Laurier does not publish a Health Sciences acceptance rate. Our Wilfrid Laurier acceptance rate page covers what the school shares. Use our Top 6 average calculator to see where you stand, and remember that SBI4U and SCH4U must be in your six.

Health Sciences or Kinesiology at Laurier

Laurier describes Health Sciences as a cell-to-society program. You study biology and chemistry alongside the social factors that shape health. Laurier says it is built to cover the prerequisites for professional schools such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and physiotherapy, as well as graduate work in public health and molecular medical sciences.

Kinesiology (BKin) is a separate Laurier program focused on human movement. It has its own OUAC code and different course rules. Read our Laurier Kinesiology guide if you are choosing between the two.

Program enhancements: management or the medical minor

On the OUAC you pick Health Sciences from the Laurier Waterloo list, then choose a program enhancement. The Management Minor is a direct-entry 4.0 credit option covering the core parts of business and economics.

The Medical Foundation Partnership Minor is the other choice. Laurier says it helps students prepare to apply to medical school and gives preferential status with internationally accredited schools, naming the American University of the Caribbean and St. George's University. Canadian medical schools set their own rules, so treat this as one option among several. Other minors such as Biology, Chemistry and Psychology are chosen once you are at Laurier.

Science co-op

You apply to co-op at the end of first year. If your first-year GPA meets the minimum, you may get an admission interview early in second year. Laurier says fall of second year is the only co-op entry point for most programs. Work terms are paid and last 12 to 16 weeks each.

Laurier reports a 99% employment rate for co-op students in 2025-26 and more than 6,000 co-op jobs posted each year. Laurier does not publish a Health Sciences co-op GPA cut-off on its co-op admission page. Co-op raises your student fees, as the cost table shows.

Careers, student life and transferring in

Laurier lists careers such as dentist, epidemiologist, health care administrator, medical doctor, pharmacist, physiotherapist, public policy analyst and radiation therapist, noting that many need more training after the degree. Graduates can also continue into Laurier's Health Sciences (MSc). Students can join the Health Sciences Students' Association, the Faculty of Science Students' Association or the Laurier Pre-Med Society.

If you start at a college or another university, you may be able to transfer in. Laurier calls Health Sciences competitive for transfer students and says it needs outstanding marks in college courses and in the required high school courses. Space depends on how many strong applicants apply that year, so check the transfer rules before you count on this route.

For parents

Laurier Health Sciences admits on grades, with a low 80s range. Your child needs four Grade 12 courses at 60%: English, Advanced Functions, Biology and Chemistry. No essay or interview is needed to get in, though the optional background form can help.

Co-op is not part of the first-year offer, so first-year marks matter. Budget for tuition, student fees, books and residence. Compare with our Waterloo Health Sciences and McMaster Health Sciences guides, and read our Wilfrid Laurier guide.
