Laurier Residences Compared: Waterloo and Brantford Costs
Laurier guarantees first-year residence at its Waterloo and Brantford campuses if you apply and pay the $600 deposit by the deadline. For Fall 2027, that's June 1, 2027 at 11:59 p.m., and applications open in early April. Rooms come from a lottery based on the preferences you give, so the guarantee is for a bed, not a building. Milton has no residence.

The guarantee, the deposit and the dates
The guarantee covers undergraduates attending a postsecondary institution for the first time. You apply online at wlu-residence.symplicity.com, choosing Resident and signing in with your Laurier username. June 1 is also Laurier's Fall 2027 deadline to accept your offer of admission, so plan both for the same week.
Laurier calls the $600 deposit non-refundable, and the Residence Agreement counts it toward your first residence payment. Its application page adds one exception: in the 2026 cycle, the deposit was refunded if you emailed housing@wlu.ca with your full name and nine-digit Laurier ID by 11:59 p.m. on June 1. After that, it's gone. Confirm the Fall 2027 cancellation rule when applications open.
Laurier says it will try to honour the guarantee but isn't liable when causes beyond its control, such as fire, strikes or public health emergencies, prevent it.
- Miss the deadline and you can still join the waiting list. In 2026, Waterloo's waiting list application opened June 8, while Brantford reopened applications until residence was full.
- Disability, medical and nut-allergy accommodation requests go through the residence portal with a form from your health care professional. The 2026 deadline was June 8 at 4 p.m.
- Your building and room assignment arrive in late July at your mylaurier.ca email.
- The contract runs September to April. If you leave early but stay at Laurier, you still owe the full year's fees. You move out within 24 hours of your last winter exam.
Every first-year style side by side
Laurier bills residence per term. The yearly figures below double its published 2026-27 per-term rates. Every style also adds a $12 student activity fee per term. The 2027-28 rates aren't published yet.

What the labels mean when you rank
Traditional halls put most first-years in double rooms, with single-gender floors and communal washrooms for communities of about 16 to 40 students. Euler and Leupold are small single-gender buildings for students who need that environment, often for religious or cultural reasons. Semi-private rooms are mostly singles in King Street Residence and Waterloo College Hall, where two neighbours share a washroom.
Apartment units in Waterloo house two to five students, each with a locking bedroom and a shared kitchen and living area. Laurier lists air conditioning and Wi-Fi at 201 Lester, 260 Regina, 32 University, 308 King and 53 Bricker. Brantford is all apartments, with units of two to seven students in downtown buildings.
Laurier's future-students page shows a lower Waterloo apartment range, starting at $9,022. Its itemized fee list has no Waterloo apartment rate below $5,608.16 a term. Use the itemized list, which is what you'll be billed from.
- You can ask for a roommate by forming a roommate group in the application. Semi-private rooms are the exception: Laurier won't consider roommate requests there.
- Mixed-gender communities are opt-in. Laurier won't place you in one unless you applied for it.
- Traditional single rooms in Conrad and Willison, and the Regina Residence doubles, aren't in the general lottery.
- No elevator: C.H. Little House, Conrad Hall, Euler, Leupold, Macdonald House, Willison Hall and Regina Residence in Waterloo, and Post House and Wilkes House in Brantford.
- Every Waterloo residence space is reserved for first-years. Brantford runs two upper-year communities.

Room plus meal plan: the real first-year total
Every Waterloo residence student must buy a meal plan. Dormitory students choose a Five-Day or Seven-Day All Access plan; apartment students get the Apartment plan. In Brantford, Laurier's application page says the Convenience Plan is optional.
Laurier publishes two different sets of Waterloo meal plan prices. The totals below use the dining page, which the 2026/27 Residence Agreement links for meal plan fees. Our meal plan guide explains the gap.
| Example | Room fee plus $24 activity fee | Meal plan | 2026-27 total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Waterloo traditional double | $8,396.58 | Five-Day All Access, $7,211.58 | $15,608.16 |
| Waterloo semi-private single | $10,498.86 | Five-Day All Access, $7,211.58 | $17,710.44 |
| Waterloo semi-private single | $10,498.86 | Seven-Day All Access, $7,800.12 | $18,298.98 |
| Waterloo Premium apartment single | $11,240.32 | Apartment plan, $2,919.68 | $14,160.00, plus groceries |
| Waterloo Ensuite apartment single | $11,783.68 | Apartment plan, $2,919.68 | $14,703.36, plus groceries |
| Brantford apartment single | $9,731.32 | Optional; Welcome plan $960 | $9,731.32 to $10,691.32, plus groceries |
Residence Learning Communities and Clusters
A Residence Learning Community puts students with a shared program or interest on the same floor. A Learning Cluster places them in the same building on different floors. You apply by answering three questions in the residence application before June 1. Placements happen in mid to late July, and members pay $40 at move-in for the year's activities.
| Campus | Communities listed for 2026-27 |
|---|---|
| Waterloo RLCs | Business and Economics, Communications, Computer Science, Faculty of Music, Faculty of Science, Film and Media, Healthcare, History Teaching, Recreation and Wellness |
| Brantford RLCs | Criminology, Leadership |
