Course requirements

For the Laurier BBA, Ontario students need Grade 12 English and Advanced Functions (MHF4U), each at 70% or more. You also need one of Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Data Management (MDM4U), at 60% or more.

Laurier counts all your prerequisite courses in your admission average, so a weak math mark pulls the average down. Students from other provinces should use Laurier's course equivalents chart. Plan your Grade 12 courses with our course planner.

Applying from another province

Laurier publishes course equivalents by province. In Alberta, Math 30-1 counts as Advanced Functions and Math 31 as Calculus. In British Columbia, Pre-Calculus 12 counts as Advanced Functions, Calculus 12 as Calculus and Foundations of Math 12 as Data Management.

Alberta averages use five courses at the 30 or 31 level, including diploma exam results. BC averages use five Grade 12 academic courses from Laurier's accepted list, with English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 required. International students need English and a senior math at 70%, and some curricula need a second math at 60%.

If English isn't your first language, Laurier may ask for proof of English proficiency, and academically qualified students who fall short may get a conditional offer. Students transferring from college or university start in first year, and anyone with 7.5 or more attempted credits elsewhere isn't considered for the BBA.

The high 80s range

Laurier lists an average admission range in the high 80s for the BBA, for both Ontario and international applicants. It's a range, not a guaranteed cut-off.

Because every prerequisite is counted, a strong English and math profile matters as much as your best electives. Laurier doesn't publish a BBA acceptance rate. See our Laurier acceptance rate page for what it does publish, and work out your average, prerequisites included, with our Top 6 average calculator.

The Applicant Background Summary

After you apply, you can send Laurier an Applicant Background Summary (ABS) form about your extracurricular involvement and achievements. Laurier says the form is optional but highly recommended, and it may be used for admission consideration.

You fill it in once in Laurier's applicant portal, even if you applied to several Laurier programs. Laurier suggests sending it within two weeks of applying. The Fall 2027 deadline is April 25, 2027.

If something outside your control hurt your grades, you can also send a separate personal statement about a special case or extenuating circumstances. Don't put that information on the ABS form.

What you study

The BBA is offered by the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics on the Waterloo campus, and it's AACSB-accredited. You move through the program with the same cohort of students.

Laurier lists six required first-year courses: Understanding the Business Environment, Critical Thinking and Communication Skills, Introduction to Financial Accounting, micro and macroeconomics, and an introductory calculus course, plus 2.0 credits of non-business electives. In your first semester you work in a group on a strategic question from a real company.

In upper years you choose one of nine concentrations: Accounting, Business and Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Human Resource Management, Insurance and Risk Management, Marketing, Strategic Management, or Supply Chain Management. Laurier says you can earn all the university credits for the CPA, CFA and CHRP designations, and the Marketing concentration offers a pathway to the Chartered Marketer designation.

Upper-year examples Laurier gives include Procurement and Supply Management, Business Strategy for Sustainability, Consumer Behaviour, Investment Management and Advanced Accounting. Accounting graduates can go on to five graduate-level courses in the Lazaridis Graduate Diploma in Accounting.

Competitions run through the degree. First-year students pitch a new business in the BDO Future Leaders Challenge, and fourth-year students present global market-entry proposals at the World of Opportunities conference. Laurier also counts more than 600 alumni who are presidents or CEOs.

Co-op

Co-op is optional. You apply for admission to co-op in first year and may be offered an admission interview early in second year.

Business co-op students complete three four-month work terms, or one eight-month and one four-month term, within the four-year degree. Laurier reports a 99% employment rate for co-op students in 2025/2026. Co-op raises student fees to $4,219 a year for domestic students.
