Start in Arts and Science with a real BSc direction

USask's College of Arts and Science offers science degrees across several fields. Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics lead to quite different studies. A broad faculty offer is only the start of that choice. Read a few degree plans before selecting your first classes. The useful question is which scientific problems you want to learn to investigate and which early courses will prepare you to do that work.

The college offers three-year and four-year degrees, with honours options in named subjects. The current policy gives 90 credit units for a three-year degree and 120 for a four-year or honours route. Those are 2026-27 degree references. The college does not recommend the three-year route for students planning graduate study. Compare the eventual destination's requirements rather than assuming a shorter degree serves every later plan.

The USask school overview covers the whole university. Our Computer Science guide owns that program's later choices. Engineering and Kinesiology have separate entry conditions too. This page concerns ordinary BSc entry in Arts and Science, with the limits of applying that general rule to a named exception made visible.

Read the confirmed 70% rule as a minimum

The catalogue's 2027-28 admission section explicitly lists a 70% five-subject minimum for the ordinary Bachelor of Science. It requires Grade 12 standing or an equivalent credential, approved maths and English proficiency. The section sits within a website headed University Catalogue 2026-27, but its admission-policy heading clearly names 2027-28. Keep those two publication scopes separate rather than discarding the confirmed future entry rule.

The Biology selector repeats 70% for Ontario and Saskatchewan school applicants. It says offers are made on an ongoing basis until seats are filled. The minimum is therefore not an entering-class mean, an acceptance rate or a promise about your own file. No separate Fall 2027 ordinary Science admitted-class average is published in the checked sources. Meeting the subject pattern still matters alongside the result.

The same future policy gives Biomedical Sciences a separate subject list, individual course floors and no deficiencies. Other named programs can also have conditions beyond the general line. Find the exact credential before relying on a broad BSc label. If a preferred field changes, check its rules again. Do not assume that an offer to the college settles every later program or course-selection decision.

Build the correct Ontario maths and five-mark calculation

The Ontario curriculum view requires Mathematics of Data Management 4U or Advanced Functions 4U. A 4U course is university preparation. The separate marks page lists eligible subjects for calculating an average and includes Calculus and Vectors there. Being eligible for an averaging slot does not automatically make a course a substitute for a program's named prerequisite. Ask admissions about an unusual maths record rather than quietly merging the two lists.

USask's school average uses one English, one maths and three other approved subjects. The latter group has a maximum of two natural sciences, two social sciences or humanities, and one fine or performing art. This is not an Ontario Top 6. Your strongest six marks may include a combination that does not fit USask's five-mark pattern. Use the actual approved list when testing which subjects can enter the calculation.

The timeline matters too. From September to February 1, the published calculation uses completed Grade 11 work. From February 2 to June 30, it uses results through Grade 12 Term 1, with Grade 11 predictors where needed. After June 30 it uses Grade 12 results only. Final conditional marks verify the offer's condition; the page says averages are not recalculated for admission consideration. Keep your actual offer conditions with your school plan.

Plan science prerequisites even when admission allows a maths gap

The ordinary college route can admit a student with a maths deficiency. The selector tells that student to consult the college about clearing it. This is not a statement that university calculus is open without preparation. It also does not waive prerequisites for chemistry or biology. The admission check and access to a university class serve different purposes, so plan both before building a first-term timetable.

Biology's current suggested first year includes BIOL 120 and 121, CHEM 112 and 115, and MATH 125. That list shows why a science student can need more preparation than the broad college entry line suggests. It is a suggestion for that field, not a universal required timetable for all BSc students. The department labels its offerings 2026/27 and warns that not every course is offered each year.

Use the high school course planner to keep likely university courses beside their school prerequisites. Check a few fields if you are undecided. Physics and Biology can lead to different first-year choices. Ask which preparatory course would be needed for any gap, what credit it earns and how it could change your sequence. Confirm the actual Fall 2027 course offerings before registration rather than treating the old schedule as a promise.

Match provincial or IB subjects without making your own conversion

Saskatchewan's current selector allows Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre-Calculus 30. It encourages Pre-Calculus for a BSc and Foundations for a BA or an undecided plan. Preserve the difference between a permitted subject and a recommendation. Other provinces have their own named equivalents. Do not turn the Saskatchewan recommendation into a second mandatory Ontario maths course when the Ontario view gives its own choice.

The IB view currently gives a minimum of 24 and names SL or HL Mathematics, with legacy Math Studies wording. The central IB page assesses the full Diploma out of 45 possible points. It treats individual IB courses differently from the full Diploma. Its self-assessment tool does not send results to admissions. Submit the actual predicted or final records as instructed, and ask about modern maths syllabus names before relying on an old label.

Other international school systems need their own credentials and programme requirements. USask explains that it converts international marks using its assessment process. Do not substitute a personal percentage estimate or an online calculator's result. Proof of English skills can be a further task, separate from the English subject used in the average. Read the current policy for the test or prior-study evidence you intend to present.

Use dated application rows for your exact program

Biology's published September 2027 row gives July 15, 2027 for the domestic application and August 1 for documents. International applicants have May 1 and June 1 respectively. The ordinary Psychology and English tables show the same dates, but a named exception should use its own program table. A general national deadline list is useful for comparison, not a replacement for the credential and applicant group you selected.

Apply through USask's own account and follow the documents requested for your record. The checked ordinary BSc entry rules use academic assessment, with no general essay, portfolio, interview or Casper listed. Mature or home-based applicants have different evidence routes. Do not send a statement intended for one of those categories as if every Grade 12 applicant must complete it. Your application checklist remains the source for individual follow-up tasks.

Keep the Canadian application deadline comparison beside your other school choices. Early scholarship dates can precede the final program deadline and need their own source check. Apply while your intended route is available, keep copies of submitted records and read final conditions carefully. No universal offer date or personal probability is inferred from a rolling-admission statement or a 70% minimum.

Compare research, co-op and the correct fee period

The college's current work-experience policy names particular routes. Hydrology has a co-op option, while other science fields have research or field-based courses. Computer Science and Applied Computing have their own professional internships. A general BSc offer is not a paid work placement for every major. Check the department's later eligibility and sequence before using future wages to fund your degree plan.

The 2026-27 Biology plan also shows a degree built from college, breadth, major and elective requirements. Labs, research courses and honours projects can support different goals. A project place or supervisor is not assigned by a school offer. Further professional or graduate admission has its own process. Choose a BSc you would value even if the first lab or later professional program you imagine is not available.

USask's tuition page and program estimates explicitly use 2026-27 rates. They are not approved Fall 2027 costs. Course mix, study load and residency affect the bill; student fees and books are separate items. Read the hub's funding section and housing information. Recheck unapproved fees and legacy IB wording on November 1, 2026, then check the new calendar and timetable before choosing courses.
