Course requirements
McGill asks Ontario students for 4U English or French, 4U Calculus and Vectors, and two of 4U Biology, Chemistry or Physics. You report at least ten Grade 11 and 12 courses, including six Grade 12 courses. At least four of those six, and every prerequisite, must be 4U or DU, with no more than two 4M courses.
Grade 12 health and physical education 4M courses don't count. Plan your timetable with our course planner.

Program groups decide your options
When you apply to the B.Sc., you choose a program group. That group sets the range of programs you can declare later. The Biological, Biomedical and Life Sciences Group includes Anatomy and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Physiology and Psychology. Neuroscience is its own group.
Every B.Sc. student completes McGill's Foundation Program, a common set of courses. Your earlier studies, such as AP or IB courses, decide whether you start in U0 or U1 and may cover some Foundation requirements. U0 students declare their programs later; U1 students choose a stream and declare programs in their group.
Streams are Liberal (a core science component plus a breadth component), Major, Honours and Joint programs. Honours programs often need set U1 courses and department approval.

What the cut-offs mean
McGill publishes last year's cut-offs for Ontario students in two columns: your Top 6 average and your math and science courses. For the Biological, Biomedical and Life Sciences Group they were the low to mid 90s and the low 90s. For the Physical, Earth, Math and Computer Sciences Group they were the low 90s and the high 80s to low 90s.
These aren't promises for Fall 2027. McGill doesn't publish a Science acceptance rate; our McGill acceptance rate page shows the applicant and offer counts it does publish. Work out your average with our Top 6 average calculator.

How to apply and self-report
Applications open October 1, and the fee is $140.16. A second application for the same term costs nothing extra. Ontario high school students apply to Science by February 1, 2027.
You don't send an OUAC number unless you're offered admission. Instead you self-report your grades in the McGill Applicant Portal and upload an unofficial transcript. The first period, February 1 to March 1, is optional and McGill makes no refusals then. The second period, April 1 to May 15, is mandatory, and McGill later checks every self-reported grade against official marks.
For September 2026, McGill estimated Ontario high school decisions from mid-February to the end of May. The B.Sc. has no personal statement or supplement. Extra documents are only for the programs McGill lists, scholarships or extenuating circumstances.

From other provinces
Students from Canadian high schools outside Ontario and Quebec need Grade 12 English or French (depending on their school's language), a Grade 12 precalculus or calculus math, and two of Grade 12 Biology, Chemistry or Physics. McGill uses a Top 5 average for them, not a Top 6.
McGill's typical minimum ranges for those students are the low to mid 90s for the Biological, Biomedical and Life Sciences Group, in both the Top 5 and the math and science courses. They also apply by February 1, 2027 and self-report their grades in the Applicant Portal: optionally from January 6 to February 1, and then from March 1 to May 1, which is mandatory. AP and IB courses count as academic courses, but SL Math Applications and Interpretations doesn't meet the math prerequisite.
From CEGEP or the IB
CEGEP students need the science DEC prerequisites in biology, chemistry, math and physics. McGill says applicants with all prerequisites generally have an advantage in competitive programs, but it can admit students with Math NYA, Math NYB and any two science prerequisites. The September 2026 R-score minimum was 30.4 for the Biological, Biomedical and Life Sciences Group and 34.1 overall for Neuroscience.
IB (International Baccalaureate) students need Mathematics and two of Biology, Chemistry or Physics, with at least one math or science at Higher Level. McGill doesn't accept SL Math Applications and Interpretations. The life sciences group's typical range is 36 to 39 subject points out of 42.

Internships instead of co-op
McGill Science's pages describe internships rather than a co-op stream. Its Science Internship Program has two options, and both show on your transcript as zero-credit courses.
The Industrial Practicum is a pass/fail internship of at least four months. The Internship Year in Science is for B.Sc. students only and lasts 8, 12 or 16 months, starting in September, January or May.

Tuition and scholarships
For B.Sc. students admitted in 2026-27, McGill's fee tables list tuition of $12,985.50 for Canadians from outside Quebec, $15,562.51 with fees. International students pay $64,785.90 in tuition, $68,322.91 with fees. Students who qualify for the Quebec rate pay $103.92 a credit.
McGill says Canadian tuition rises each year, and it estimates about 3%. All applicants are considered automatically for a one-year $3,000 entrance scholarship if they meet the academic minimum. Major Entrance Scholarships, worth $3,000 to $12,000 a year and renewable for up to four years, need a separate application.

For parents
McGill compares two averages for Ontario students: the Top 6 and the math and science courses. A strong English mark can't make up for a weaker Calculus or Chemistry mark.
Because McGill uses self-reported grades, it later checks every one against official grades. Sit down together and check each entry against the report card.
